Non vaxxed friend refusing to isolate (close contact)

Watermelontonic · 24/01/2022 08:33

They’ve been contacted by track and trace as they have been identified as a close contact as someone who has just tested positive.

He says he’ll just take LFTs for 7 days, same as vaccinated people.
He’s self employed, so he’ll lose money if he isolates for 10 days.

I wish he hadn’t told me, as I know now that he’s breaking the law and not sure what to do.

What would you do?

WheelieBinPrincess · 24/01/2022 08:33

I wouldn’t do anything Confused

WeeHaggisFace · 24/01/2022 08:34

Nothing 🤷‍♀️

Delatron · 24/01/2022 08:36

Nothing.

Testing and isolating will be stopping soon.

Mamabear12 · 24/01/2022 08:36

I do not think he is breaking the law. They let people carry on and kids go to school when one or more people test positive in the house if they get negative lateral flows. This is way more risky, as it is much closer contact then a person you met up with once that had corona. When it is in the house, most likely all will get it eventually....of course some manage not to....but def way more risky.

Whitefire · 24/01/2022 08:40

Seems a sensible approach, after all the guy needs to eat.

Blubells · 24/01/2022 08:45

I wouldn't do anything!

Blubells · 24/01/2022 08:46

Maybe call the police 👮‍♀️ Wink

TheChip · 24/01/2022 08:46

Let him get on with it. What do you think you should do?

ApolloandDaphne · 24/01/2022 08:47

You don't need to do anything. If he is doing LFT's then he is doing what he can and not being totally reckless. He hasn't actually got Covid.

Narutocrazyfox · 24/01/2022 08:49

Don't do anything at all. He poses no risk if he's regularly testing. This will all be stopped soon anyway.

WheelieBinPrincess · 24/01/2022 08:50

I guess you could call the Gestapo? They might drive round and put a bag over his head and take him in for ‘questioning’.

Lilifer · 24/01/2022 08:51

I cannot believe you're even asking this.
Do you always consider reporting your friends or family if they break the law?
Mind your own business and leave them be, they're testing every day fgs.

Exactly! He's not even positive for covid, just a close contact whose taking daily tests so that he can go to his work as if he doesn't he loses money. Jesus wept some people on here 🤦🏻‍♀️

This!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 24/01/2022 08:55

I'd do nothing.

Wizzbangfizz · 24/01/2022 09:01

I'd mind my own bloody business!

delilahbucket · 24/01/2022 09:05

I wouldn't bother doing anything, at least they are testing. I get it, I'm self employed, but that is why I had the vaccine and booster, because I can't afford to be off work, not because I'm at risk, so it does piss me off when people do whatever they want anyway.

DockOTheBay · 24/01/2022 09:07

I wouldn't do anything.

AnEpisodeOfEastenders · 24/01/2022 09:17

The non-vax have had long enough, if they’re not worried then why should you be?

Magenta82 · 24/01/2022 09:19

I remember reading 1984 for the first time 25 years ago, I was horrified when the children reported the neighbour their dad and thought it was unbelievable.

Every time I read it it seems more and more realistic but I still find it hard to believe that you are even thinking that you should "do something"! It is appalling!

I love Big Brother!

DoYouRememberTheInnMiranda · 24/01/2022 09:21

I'd be upset and concerned like you are. He shouldn't be breaking the rules.

But the rules were made before Omicron, and given how Omicron evades the vaccine, he's probably not much higher risk than someone who had 2 vaccines 9 months ago and hasn't had their booster (who I think would be exempt from self isolating?). And even the boosted do catch it too, so it's all a matter of degree of risk. It's really annoying that he had take it upon himself to decide what level of risk is acceptable to the rest of us, not listened to official advice, but, that's just how it is.

You can't really stop him, so you just have to let go and try to forget about it.

Topseyt · 24/01/2022 09:22

Do nothing at all and mind your own business.

He is breaking no law and needs to work or he won't be paid.

Stop being so sanctimonious.

Elieza · 24/01/2022 09:30

He is breaking the law (depending on what country he is in):

“There is no change to the guidance for unvaccinated contacts of positive COVID-19 cases, who are still required to self-isolate for 10 full days after their date of exposure to the virus”.

I can’t believe so many people think that it’s ok to just ignore the law and do nothing. There must presumably be a reason for this law or it wouldn’t be law.

There’s a £500 fund to help those who need it but I don’t know anything about it.

Do you honestly believe that all laws are reasonable, rational and backed by logic!? Even knowing the kind of people who make the laws? People who don't follow them and think nothing of bribery and blackmail

catfunk · 24/01/2022 09:37

I wouldn't do anything. Seems like he's being sensible about it. I'm pro vax - but Everyone I know who has omicron are double vaxxed and boosted anyway.
