No masks/self isolation to end in the near future etc

I fully understand that restrictions can't go on forever but I admit I'm a bit nervous. I'm considering pausing my immunosuppressant drugs for a while, until case numbers decrease (they're still over 2k per 100k here). There's a teacher in my household whose school currently has six teachers and countless students off with covid but no masks from tomorrow! Plus DH will have to go back to the office on crowded public transport.

I'll phone my consultant tomorrow, see what she says. I was advised to pause when Omicron cases were going through the roof here. I'm worried about what the lack of meds is doing to my body though (I have an autoimmune condition).

How's everyone else feeling?

He’s a disgrace, not even through winter, hospitals still struggling but to save his own ass, he’ll throw the health of the country under the bus.

This. He has to go.
Wolfiefan · 19/01/2022 13:19

Honestly? I’m so glad. I’ve had my vaccines. I hate wearing a mask. (Asthma and anxiety). I shall continue to make my own risk assessment though. Wonder if schools will ditch masks too.

Plumbear2 · 19/01/2022 13:20

Is self isolation stoping for vovid cases? Have I missed something.

Completely agree
Akire · 19/01/2022 13:23

The compulsory guidance will go but dare say schools will be able to make up own rules it’s just they don’t legally have enforce them in schools from tomorrow.

Didn’t get self isolation thing either, surely 5 days is the mim isolation to stop spread even if no symptoms. The person you pass it on to might not be as lucky. They can’t mean well just carry on unless you feel too sick then stay inside Confused

rainrainraincamedowndowndown · 19/01/2022 13:23

I'm not myself, but dc is a cv. Worried of course. I wish they at least waited until winter is over, and cases are down.

I think scrapping work from home and no masks is now correct, people can still wear their own though. Self isolation scrapping at the end of March is still some time away but we do need to get back to normal and have a plan to do so.

ItsSnowJokes · 19/01/2022 13:27

I will still wear a mask when in the office and in public spaces. It's a personal choice.

beentoldcomputersaysno · 19/01/2022 13:27

Sorry, I'm not CV. May want to disregard my response.

NotNee · 19/01/2022 13:28

I’m also CEV and have been shielding since the beginning now. So far, none of us 3 in my home have had COVID as we have been very vigilant.

but the reduced measures do make me concerned. I am fortunate that my GP & Consultants have been extremely supportive (and adamant) in shielding me thus far and are still supportive in delaying infection for as long as possible.

I am also fortunate that I have a neighbour’s home (they live abroad so we look after their home) that I have “prepped” with long date foods and essentials so that as soon as someone in my home tests positive I will shelter there.

Hope you stay healthy.

Jimmychoo69 · 19/01/2022 13:31

Angry on behalf of my CEV mum! To remove all restrictions in the middle of winter, when cases are still high, utter madness, just to save his arse.

picklemewalnuts · 19/01/2022 13:32

I think a lot of people are confused about the meaning of CEV.

There's a difference between the levels of vulnerability that people don't necessarily understand.

However, if you are CEV, presumably you are equally vulnerable to other endemic illnesses like chickenpox, flu etc. Is there reason to think that this will be worse, do we know?

MintJulia · 19/01/2022 13:35

I'm immune system compromised for another 5 weeks, so I'll be sticking to masks everywhere, lfts twce a week for (double jabbed) teen ds, and not going anywhere that isn't absolutely essential.

I hope everyone else has a lovely time but I won't be joining in until March. My lovely boss is fully supportive which is good.

Siuan · 19/01/2022 13:39

CEV and on immunosuppressive drugs. Multiple health conditions.
BUT - I've had covid, hospitalised but fully recovered.
So I don't feel as fearful of covid in general and omicron in particular.

It's hard for those who have been advised to continue shielding but the number of people involved is very small compared to the rest of the population.

I would have kept masks for a while as they don't harm people or the economy. WFH is terrible for young people and I'd be delighted to see an end to it.

Blubells · 19/01/2022 13:41

My CEV mum is actually happy for her grandchildren not having to wear masks in school the whole day anymore.

Yep equally vulnerable to those conditions but the difference is, most people with those illnesses do naturally stay at home and half my office, DC's class and DH's work colleagues don't all have those illness all at once and they don't spread like wildflowers.
Siuan · 19/01/2022 13:43

Certainly chicken pox. I would always actively avoid small children. I'd do that for covid and just colds actually.
Flu - I have a flu jab and wouldn't meet anyone who is ill.
I will continue to wear a mask in shops and public transport forever as I have had only 1 cold in two years.

ScabbyHorse · 19/01/2022 13:46

I'll still wear a mask at work (primary school) as staff and kids are catching it all the time and it doesn't feel safe not wearing one.

delilahbucket · 19/01/2022 13:48

Just FYI for those saying from tomorrow, it's next Thursday, the 27th that it changes. Perhaps when cases have continued to drop over the next week people might feel a little bit better about it.

picklemewalnuts · 19/01/2022 13:49

I haven't had a cold either, and they generally floor me, so I'm thinking about never going out ever again! Grin

I've really reset my boundaries. I'm just not interested in going to busy, germy places any more!

Innocenta · 19/01/2022 13:51

I know I should probably be nervous - that would be the more rational response! - but I can't help being pleased for everyone else getting back to normality.

(I already led a medically restricted life before the pandemic, so continuing to be very careful has less of an impact for me than for some CEV people.)

Innocenta · 19/01/2022 13:53

(I am still shielding on medical advice, just to be clear, but had long periods of being housebound - sometimes bedbound - before the pandemic too. I appreciate shielding is much harder for the CEV-but-well.)

DoubleShotEspresso · 19/01/2022 13:55

Cried in frustration today .
I'm tired
I'm exhausted
Trying to hold shit together
I'm done
