So that’s it then, the pandemic really is going to end in the UK in a couple of months time. I’ve never been so happy to read a news article!

@Reallybadidea

If you read the article, advice to self-isolate will remain, it just won't be legally enforceable. So not actually scrapped at all.
Aka scrapped. What, you think people will voluntarily miss stuff they have paid for, for a sniffle? 🤣
rrhuth · 17/01/2022 07:47

They had these dates pre-Omicron and they are sticking to them.

I assume they will have to keep some PCR testing capacity as it would be insane to fly blind for the next few years. But LFTs will be charged for going forwards and isolation scrapped.

I think we will see in about ten years' time if it was the right call or not.

I just wish I trusted the government, it has been very hard going through this with such a dreadful person as PM.

Summerofcontent · 17/01/2022 07:53

@UnmentionedElephantDildo

He's been open all, along that some of us will, die.

That remains the case.

I think it would be foolhardy to end SI - just as I think it would be wrong to end quarantine for certain other notifiable diseases.

Exactly. I think a lot of people either forget or don't realise it's a notifiable disease
GingerAndTheBiscuits · 17/01/2022 07:55

Our household has covid at the moment. Luckily we can both wfh despite feeling quite unwell. Were the isolation rules removed I suspect we’d both end up taking time off sick instead because getting up and travelling long distances to sit in an office is quite a different prospect. So I don’t think it would be as simple as everyone going back to normal.

Theunamedcat · 17/01/2022 07:55

I had covid Christmas it wasn't mild for me at all I could barely remember my name if I had got behind the wheel of the car to go to work I would have killed people myself included

I'm triple jabbed

You lot are fucking talking bollocks saying its just a sniffle

MajorCarolDanvers · 17/01/2022 07:57

In England.

Sturgeon will keep us Scots under lock and key as long as she can string it out.

GoodnightGrandma · 17/01/2022 07:57

I can’t believe that cases are falling, I’ve never known as many people positive as I do right now. I’m wondering if people just aren’t testing.

I suspect they’re not reporting them.
jgw1 · 17/01/2022 08:00

It is nice to see operation save Big Dog in full swing. How many other stories are we going to have that are designed entirely to appease some of the loons that count as Tory MPs.

Please do not forget that the only reason this is a news story today is because the Prime Minister wants you to forget that he repeatedly broke the law.

Woffle · 17/01/2022 08:05

I am concerned about this. One of my parents is triple jabbed but is so vulnerable that if they caught Covid, they would almost certainly end up in intensive care. I guess they are being sentenced to a life of house arrest…

goteam · 17/01/2022 08:05

Self isolation needs to end. As long as people are vaccinated and still masking up that is. I dont see these things as disruptive but self isolating when asymptomatic and siblings having to miss a week of school because a member of the household is covid positive has to stop.

Now that asymptomatic people aren’t supposed to follow up a positive LFT with a PCR, they’re simply not reporting the positive LFTs…

The issue is the people least likely to isolate are those in the job you absolutely want to isolate. Those with jobs they can’t do at home and the jobs unlikely to pay sick pay. Carers, shop staff, restaurant staff

Tbf that's also the case now. I'm not saying a policy change wouldn't have some impact, it would, but people who have covid continuing to work when they don't get sick pay is not a new phenomenon.

Well perhaps instead of endless parties, the government could have taken the opportunity presented by the pandemic to sort out sick pay.
VikingOnTheFridge · 17/01/2022 08:14

Don't be ridiculous.

goteam · 17/01/2022 08:14

Agree that its sick pay that needs addressing. Some jobs absolutely need to keep some form of self isolation to protect the most vulnerable and they must be paid.

JanisMoplin · 17/01/2022 08:15

Unless you are willing to close the borders again- which the UK can't afford to do- the pandemic is not going to end simply because isolation does.

User135644 · 17/01/2022 08:15

@GrendelsGrandma

I can't believe that rancid burp of a man would put more lives at risk to save his own skin.

Everyone wants the pandemic to be over. Declaring it over won't make it over. You need to be sure hospitals won't be overloaded and vulnerable people are protected.

We haven't all just protected our elderly and vulnerable relatives for 2 years for nothing.

It's March now and I've got Covid but it's okay I'll still go to Tesco, the theatre, the pub, the office.

GoodnightGrandma · 17/01/2022 08:16

My DH is triple jabbed and wears a mask where he is supposed to, he still caught it.

tapeandglue · 17/01/2022 08:17

I have never known so many people to be diagnosed with cancer - and not even stage 1, I'm talking stages 3 and 4. Part of this I think is down to the lack of access to routine medical care at the start of the pandemic, part of it perhaps triggered by all of the stress. Either way, I feel like everyone around me is dying at the moment.

All of these people - my friends, my family - they are now CEV. Scrap mandatory self-isolation, and Boris has just shortened their already depressingly short life expectancies. Or forced them to live in total isolation themselves until the very end - because being isolated, lonely and miserable absolutely puts you in a better mental state to deal with cancer. Oh, wait.

I hate Boris Johnson with a passion. The man doesn't give a shit about anyone other than himself.

But nobody would have asked you to - pandemic or not, you were ill and presumably took sick leave until you were better?

2 years is a long time to put our lives on hold and it's time for us to start making decisions for ourselves and take some responsibility - I seem to be the only person in our town who still wears a mask anyway.

baroqueandblue · 17/01/2022 08:21

Oh absolutely. The Telegraph cheerleading for the team. It's totally transparent, you're right. Fuck the vulnerable, Big Dog needs his strokes Hmm

bordermidgebite · 17/01/2022 08:27

If you have put your life on hold for two years more fool you

It's quite possible to LIVE whilst being completely within the rules , to do fun things , move on with your life, develop as a person even if you live with. a CEV . Somethings have been difficult but living is not impossible
