Experiences with Omicron Covid

I’m currently isolating after testing positive, and I’m on day 4 of symptoms, though day 1 was just a mild sore throat.

I’ve googled and it does seem like it can last from a week to longer, but I thought I’d just get peoples general experiences with when you started to feel better.
I’m a single mum to a 2 year old and I feel terrible that I have no energy to play with him.
I’ve got a cough and a runny nose/leaky eyes and I’m exhausted.
I was double vaxxed already and I had my booster a week before I got Covid.
If you have had what you suspect to be Omicron- or the more “cold like” type of covid- when did you start feeling better?

My family and I all have it at the moment.
Ds(10) was very poorly last Sunday, high temperature and slept most of the day, gradually got better and better until yesterday when it was like a switch flicked and he’s back to normal.
Ds(16) has very bad cold symptoms. It started with a sore throat.
I started with a burning feeling in my throat and back of nose. I had a temperature one night and couldn’t sleep, now my main symptoms are headache, limb pain, chest hurting when I breathe.

IsaLating · 15/01/2022 11:56

Symptoms on Sunday, felt really rough on Monday, steadily better since then, feel ok today. But still testing positive :-(

CustardCreamsAndMintTea · 15/01/2022 18:41

Hi, I started feeling bad last night- suddenly really tired like I should just go to sleep right now. I was at DS swimming training and went straight home and did a test. It was negative but I felt exhausted and a bit weird.
Today I was due to take my DD out, but I was so freezing cold and had a runny nose that I did another test which came up very clear as positive.
I feel like I've got a head cold, my nose is streaming and I've a headache at the front above my eyes, but the worst part is that I'm totally freezing.
Does anyone else feel this cold?

I’m on day 4 after testing positive LFT on Tuesday and sore throat and headache. 3 days of feeling shivery, coughing, sneezing, headache / sinus pain. No temp. I haven’t felt the need for Lemsip since yesterday morning and feel OK but exhausted today, so feels like I’m on the mend. The coldness you mention - definitely, but I kept up with the Lemsip on waking, early pm and evening and that really helped. Are you taking paracetamol? Hope you feel better soon.
sheeplikessleep · 15/01/2022 21:19

So basically OP, started feeling rough Tuesday and starting to feel bit better today but still tired.

QueenLagertha · 15/01/2022 21:23

I'm on day 5. I'm also pregnant (in second trimester) and had my booster shot at Halloween. Just had a scratchy throat until yesterday afternoon. Since then have felt dosed up, throat very sore, chesty cough. Didnt sleep much last night cus of the cough and felt rough today. However no temp and my appetite hasnt been affected. Have been drinking lots of lemon and honey, eating veg soup, fruit and taking paracetamol. Wish I could have some night nurse.
DH is on day 7 and tested negative in lft. His symptoms went completely day 6

CustardCreamsAndMintTea · 16/01/2022 06:43

@sheeplikessleep reassuring to hear I'm not alone with this coldness. Its the thing that bothered me most.

I think this is day 3 for me. I had a horrible night last night, even coughing so much I made myself sick. I felt so cold, but I was boiling hot to touch.
This morning I sort of feel ok. Still have a blocked nose and a cough but not too bad at all. Temperature back to normal. In the days before covid I would have gone to work in worse states.
I also realised that the 2 nights before I tested positive I had really crazy, stressful dreams. I remember them vividly which is unusual for me.

Hope everyone else on the thread is starting to feel better too.

RichTeaRichTea · 16/01/2022 07:12

I felt like I had a bad cold but was on the mend by day 5ish and fine by day 7. I also have two preschoolers and it was as difficult as ever being ill and trying to look after them - you don’t ever get to rest enough so it is extra tiring and you have my huge sympathy. My colleague told me to get plenty of rest because she needed to sleep for 16 hours a night when she had covid, which was kind but not helpful at all!

GiveUsACwtch · 16/01/2022 07:23

I'm on day 2. Yesterday was awful, horrendous headache right behind eyes that would not shift, really sore throat and the most brutal full body aches I have ever had.
Today my nose is more blocked, headache still there and throat still sore, but body isn't as achy.

DD is on day 4 and feeling so much better. Ds2 is on day 2 like me and he's just full up with a cold.

blackcurrantjam · 16/01/2022 08:00

Day 1 tested positive felt fine, felt progressively more tired over the day
Day 2 Terrible night. Unbelievably achey, stretchy, had to massage my ankles, hot salt bath helped, achey all day, blocked nose, was a bit zapped couldn't really move except to get food, paracetamol, watched iplayer
Day 3 better night last night, still a bit achey but not sooo bad still tired though

cheeseybeans19 · 16/01/2022 08:01

Day 6 here and starting to feel better apart from a very sore throat still and a dry cough which is probably making it worse. Going to get DP to get me some difflam throat spray today. Aches and pains seem to have gone as well as the god awful headache and congestion. How’s everyone else doing? @CustardCreamsAndMintTea I also had the freezing cold yet boiling hot and as pp said just kept topped up, I found the Asda own brand cold and flu tablets really good.

FloatyBoaty · 16/01/2022 08:12

I’m on day 5, as is DS (5). Also a LP.

I’ve had five days of the most diabolical symptoms- astonishing headache, sinus pain, joint and back pain, skin hurting, raging fever, then snotty, coughing, ear ache, sore throat, no appetite... horrible fatigue.

Covid tongue. (Yep. It’s a thing).

This morning I’ve woken up an except the ear ache and slightly sore throat, feel like the storm has passed, thank god. It’s been so awful.

DS had a fever, heavy head, wobbly legs and headache for 2 days then made a full recovery.

Don’t beat yourself up about the 2 year old. It’s just about survival, really. As long as he’s fed, clean, and warm, a few days of tv won’t hurt him at all.

CallMeNutribullet · 16/01/2022 08:53

I had 5 days of symptoms then was basically back to normal although I've noticed I feel a bit fatigued now (I was out of isolation Wednesday).

I was lucky in that my symptoms were extremely mild (basically the sniffles) but I DID just have covid just at the end of October/beginning of November there and felt pretty shocking the first time around.

QueenLagertha · 16/01/2022 11:58

Day 6 here today. Feeling loads better and just tested negative on lft 🥳

sheeplikessleep · 16/01/2022 12:38

Yay QueenLagertha that must be a great feeling on both fronts. I’m on day 5 and whilst it was slower than the C line to appear, the t line was still very much there 😩

HairyScaryMonster · 16/01/2022 22:50

Started with a sore throat and headache, but fatigue and loss of appetite have been main symptoms. I'm on day 7 (still positive LFT) and although I was feeling much much better by day 5, I'm still needing naps to get through the day and I'm undecided about working tomorrow (WFH)

Duckfeather · 17/01/2022 00:53

I’m only on day 2. DH tested positive Thursday night and my PCR came back positive today (did it yesterday). Yesterday was awful, I slept most of the day and had awful headache, body aches, temp and was nauseous.

Today was a bit better but still shivery with low level headache and no energy. Kids luckily fine still. I’ve been dosing up on paracetamol and it seems to keep the worst at bay.

RememberToLookUp · 17/01/2022 07:13

It’s a weird infection. Symptoms seemed to change for me on a daily basis.

Days 1&2 - mild cold symptoms
Days 3-6 - cold symptoms got worse, felt like flu
Day 7-9 felt seriously unwell, high temp, hallucinating, absolutely awful
Day 10 - felt much better, temp came down
Day 11 - went back to work for two days, honestly felt like I was completely better, but then this weekend I felt awful again. Slept all day yesterday (Day 14) and have just called in sick as I can’t get out of bed.

Feeling really pissed off and low.

Hope you feel better soon, OP.

Lemons1571 · 17/01/2022 07:13

Week 1 was shit with all the symptoms.
Week 2 mostly the odd headache, but tired, - that phase where you feel better, do something then feel exhausted and have to sit down.
Week 3 - the odd headache and tired spell.

Haveyoubrushedyourteethtoday · 17/01/2022 07:20

Day 6 I suppose? I never felt absolutely terrible. Two days of aches and pains. It’s just the tiredness I guess. But Lemons1571 is spot on, as in, you get s good night sleep, feel ok, get up, put on a few loads of washing and clean the kitchen or whatever…then you’re knackered.

Offyougo · 19/03/2022 10:54

Day 3,only tested positive yesterday.
Had two days of cold symptoms, slept most of yesterday. Today feel much better, residual cough and a bit tired.
Am in the third trimestre and unvaccinated.
Not sure if i am being too optimistic, might take a while for the tiredness to wear off.

samsmum2 · 24/03/2022 21:33

Tested positive 48 hrs ago and have a vicious sore throat - that's the worst symptom really. Otherwise tired and generally under the weather, coughing a lot, but if it wasn't for the throat, it'd be ok-ish.

frenchiemummy92 · 25/03/2022 06:59

DD1 had occasionally started sneezing & that was her only symptom the entire time she was positive this past week. A cold normally ends up with her being poorly so I was expecting this to be pretty bad for her. Thankfully not.

I tested positive also and it's been like a really really bad cold. I feel completely exhausted and have a cough.

DD2 is also down with it and she has bad cold symptoms. She normally doesn't really catch bugs.

Strange how it effects people.

DasL36 · 30/03/2022 13:29

Started with a dry throat on Sunday - sore throat getting worse by the day - tested positive this morning - been up half the night in pain, can’t swallow properly , I don’t mind the runny nose ,it’s the painful sore throat :(

Wouldntitbenicetobeinyourshoes · 30/03/2022 13:34

Op first post 10 weeks ago so hopefully better now.

I hope later posters feel better soon Flowers
