I am not sure if timelines align but nonetheless we had a government at beginning of the pandemic Made it illegal to sit in a park. Bubbles for single people were only introduced in may.

But in may it was ok to have a party.

Its sickening.

@herecomesthsun

They are distinct issues though.

Is there public health benefit in having some restrictions in a pandemic? yes, there can be

Is it possible for that to include a lockdown? yes it could

Were Boris and co behaving badly? also yes, they were

It's illogical to mix all of that together.

No they aren't. The restrictions we had existed as they did because the people making and supporting them weren't going to be the ones who'd suffer because of them. They wouldn't have existed as they did if things like children being denied access to outside play or total absence of human contact was going to be felt by those in power. Johnson and co are the most obvious example of this, but it's applicable to the likes of Starmer etc who did keep the rules but who knew they weren't going to be on the sharp end of them.

There's also no getting round that some people did observe and believe in the necessity of things like no outdoor gatherings, wrongly as it turned out, because they trusted the government. When they see that Johnson et al clearly didn't believe that was needed after all, it's illogical to think that wouldn't have an impact.

Ill post what I put on another thread.

spent all them weeks alone, because I followed the rules at that time, I had a mental breakdown.

Stop minimising what they did it's fucking offensive to people who have suffered with physical and mental health, people who have lost jobs, lost businesses ect.

These people have contempt for the public.

Oh and starmer wanted worse restrictions so if he gets caught out he can do one too.

@Clavinova

Are you saying that you think that downing a beer or other alcoholic beverage in a place of work means that it is a party?

You need to ask Sue Gray.

@Clavinova you don't know what a party is? I hadn't realised until Wednesday that there wasn't anyone who didn't know what a party was, but now there are two, you and the Prime Minister.

On the subject of dirty hypocrites, have we all heard about Kate Josephs?

DuncinToffee · 14/01/2022 20:11

Yes, director general of the Cabinet Office's COVID taskforce at the time.

MrsSkylerWhite · 14/01/2022 20:16

clavinova

May I ask again, as you clearly missed my question?

How can you defend this?

Smug jokes (assuming that’s what it was supposed to be) about wine and Waitrose don’t suffice.

Againstmachine · 14/01/2022 22:37

A friend who works at a council was telling me there is only so many so called top bods at councils and they mess up, they move somewhere else. It happened regularly in cycles.

Most tend to be useless.

I remember at the start of the first lockdown having to go to the local chemist to pick up a prescription.

Their website said they opened at 9.30 am so I thought I’d get their prompt. But they’d changed to opening at 10am due to pressures at work (understandable).

If I’d gone home it would have just had to turn back as soon as I got there so I went for a walk down by the river in the adjacent park.

Couldn’t have a seat on one of the benches and was so worried I’d be seen being out for more than an hour.

They started delivering soon after thankfully.

Oh, and let's not forget that other little public health issue - the closing of all public toilets because you should Just Stay Home... Fucking marvellous for anyone who had to make a genuinely essential journey eg a long commute to their keyworker job, anyone without a home, anyone with bladder or bowel issues, anyone having to take small DC to the supermarket because the DC were too young to be left alone and there was no other adult available to look after them... And then mass whining about people pissing in the streets.

(In May 2020 I got a couple of days' work in what was then one of my jobs - leaflet distribution. 8 hour shifts walking the streets. At least the bastards didn't declare Tena Lady a non-essential item...)

I agree with every word @Wreath21 has said

Do remember that Dominic Cummings, wife and young child managed to drive from London to Durham and back again with out refuelling or needing to stop for a wee.

I didn't see my mother for months.
I delivered a care package for her in the dead of night, 30 mins away afraid of being stopped over as the radio delivered war like messages of stay at home. I felt like a criminal. Left it on her doorstep and turned around looking at her waving from the upstairs window. I cried all the way back.

Meanwhile at number 10.....

What angers me is they treated us like children...Do as I say not as I do.

Please, get them out of government. Please.

Wreath21 · 17/01/2022 01:23

I'm so sorry. I didn't see very much of my mum either - DC was saying tonight that it felt like we lost most of the last two years with her ( she died at the end of November). While there were a few other things going on with her, quite a lot of it was about obeying the rules. Though we broke them last Christmas and went to see her, and I am very glad we did.
