Sir Kier Starmer In Isolation Again.

6th period of Covid isolation for Sir Kier Starner.I wonder if he has just been incredibly unlucky, or been rather reckless? He's had Covid twice and isolated following contact with infected individuals 4 times.

Does anyone else find it odd?

@Likkleredridinghood

What's with the grin emoji ? What a weird thread. Maybe use the same powers of deduction to work out how many kids Johnson has or whether he attended any parties over xmas ?
They don't have any powers of deduction, proven by the fact they have found the square root of bugger all out!

Screenshots of journalists' mistakes are a bit extreme.

Ultimately, his wife is a very private person, as it's her right to be. Maybe she has relevant qualifications from before she was a solicitor. I worked for a number of years before re-training as a solicitor, and there were a handful of doctors at law school with me, also re-training, for instance. 🤷‍♀️ I'm not sure why anybody would doubt what's being said about her career, given it's easy for some! to check whether it's the truth or not!

TulipsGarden · 06/01/2022 08:04

I'm more interested in why Boris Johnson hasn't had to isolate since he was ill - seems very unlikely given the job he does.

This x 1000

Probably hasn't done a LFT in months (if at all)

ifonly4 · 06/01/2022 08:13

I'd like to think it's because he's been unlucky rather than irresponsible - it does seem like a lot to me though. I have two high contact jobs (easy to come into contact with 400+ a day) and have never had to isolate and don't believe I've had covid. I do live my life, but I'm lucky our friends and family are all careful people, so don't meet up if in any way ill, try and do quite a few meet ups outside etc.

Notonthestairs · 06/01/2022 08:21

All politicians meet 100's of people each month. Particularly the decent politicians that are engaging with people (Friday surgery) and their respective party members. Short of making everyone test in front of them I don't see how it can be avoided.

And DD's TA has had covid 3x!

NommyChompers · 06/01/2022 08:25

The lack of isolation by lots of the Tories (following Boris’ lead) is FAR more suspicious IMO.

I also don’t think there’s anything sinister about his wife. Why try and search for reasons to be suspicious when the tories are bashing us over the head with a multitude of reasons they can’t be trusted?

MajorCarolDanvers · 06/01/2022 08:37

Considering his job, his wife being NHS and he has children in schoo l6 isn't many times i dont think

I agree with this.

And asking if someone is reckless demonstrates one of the most awful and toxic aspects of this pandemic where blame is assigned to individuals rather than understanding it's a virus.

Reminds me of attitudes towards HIV and AIDS in the 80s and 90s where those with it were always asked how they caught it so that blame and judgement could be assigned or not.

itwasntaparty · 06/01/2022 08:41

@MegCleary

See I think the Prime minister had it over Christmas or was a contact, he was well out of circulation
Fancied a holiday more likely

'Irresponsible' FFS.

Stop judging people for made up misdemeanors.

Sick of the insinuation that those who don't come into contact are somehow virtuous. People in London were far more likely to be in contact with Covid in every wave so far.

Quite.

Apparently Johnson 'did not isolate when he was a contact' www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/boris-johnson-e2-80-98did-not-isolate-after-contact-with-aide-who-tested-positive-for-covid-e2-80-99/ar-AASoVCb and there have been so many reported times Johnson appears not to have followed his own rules/guidance on masks, gatherings etc.

People are cynically attacking Starmer for following the rules.

notacooldad · 06/01/2022 09:09

I've never heard of anyone having to isolate 6 times, it is unusual surely?
A few of us in our team have tested positive numerous times. I'm not finding it unusual or surprising tbh.

SueSaid · 06/01/2022 09:13

'I know someone who worked in Labour HQ. They said Kier has insisted on f2f meetings throughout Covid, he prefers f2f to Zoom. Has asked MPs to attend meetings which they preferred to do on Zoom'

Yes his social distancing seems to be as effective as his leadership.

Still, it gave us the opportunity to laugh at Rayner making an absolute tit of herself as usual.

I’m no fan of Ms Rayner but I have enjoyed watching her make tits of the Tory front bench on occasion.

But she didn't, she bellowed and sneered and that was about it. I think she thinks she's on the Jeremy Kyle show.

Yeah, that's just awful. V

SquishySquirmy · 06/01/2022 09:40

We recently had to isolate because primary aged dc tested positive. She had no symptoms at all, so we only knew by doing a routine LFD (confirmed by PCR). If we didn't do routine, regular LFDs we would have carried on in ignorant bliss (and infected many others). The virus was spreading round the school, so short of removing her from school (not an option to be taken lightly) I don't know what we could have done differently to stop her catching it.

There may have been others in her class who also had it and were infectious, but were not tested and so didn't have to isolate.

But, presumably other pps on this thread would think that WE are the "reckless" and "irresponsible" ones?
Because after all we are the ones who had to isolate! Whereas those who never test, dismiss any symptoms as "just a cold" (and are lucky enough to get mild symptoms) can be smug about never isolating. Some people are even thick enough to think that not having to isolate much infers a a moral superiority (you can see hints of this on this thread).
Messed up logic!

Then there are those whose lifestyles mean that they are much less likely to come into contact with the virus.

And of course there is still an element of luck.

But having to isolate several times (4 times as a contact is not much at all I don't think) doesn't mean that someone is reckless.
Catching it twice is unlucky, but not that unusual.

Quartz2208 · 06/01/2022 09:41

I dont find 6 particularly unusual - most people I know have had a 2-3 isolations for contacts plus covid. The fact he has positive twice is going to be more common as well.

4 of his isolations came when there were isolation rules and the last two when he had it

I find someone never isolating weirder to be honest

TheWhalrus · 06/01/2022 09:44

6 times does seem like a lot, although Starmer is probably being particularly cautious: the political narrative he's trying to create is that the tories are being reckless over COVID (see their partying at xmas 2020 and COVID-denier backbenchers)...if Starmer is caught doing or saying anything like that then he risks his party being tagged as 'all the same' as the tories. Surely he wants to avoid that.

worriedatthemoment · 06/01/2022 09:56

When did he last have covid as my son had in october but we were told not to do lft for 90 days so he is only just doing doing them again

I’m assuming you work in a public facing role where you’d only be a close contact based on being ‘pinged’ on the app (if you’re using it at work?), rather than any of the 400 people you meet daily being able to name you as a contact?

Whereas I imagine KS is in contact with lots of people daily who are not likely to forget they’ve met KS and so name him to T&T!

I’ve been careful all the way through and had covid twice (once at start of pandemic before lockdown, picked it up in office, once DC brought it home from school). Fortunately I have only been a close contact since isolation rules changed but have had to PCR as a contact a couple of times. I know other people who have been less cautious who have never had covid or had to isolate. Luck of the draw.

Bobholll · 06/01/2022 11:31

He’s matched my record. I live in rural Yorkshire. I have school aged children. I WFH 90% of the time.

I’ve had covid twice. Once in Dec 20 & again in Oct 21. I have symptoms yet again & am awaiting PCR results 🤦🏼‍♀️ I’ve been a close contact of a couple people so not impossible I’ve omicron now.

Last year, you had to isolate on close contact & my two children got covid at different times 🤦🏼‍♀️ So that was two periods of 10 day of household isolation. = 4 lots of isolation

I was also a close contact twice on the minimal times I went it work .. cue two more periods of isolation.

I know kids who’s school bubbles burst about 8 times last year. It was awful.

Are people forgetting what the rules were?! We didn’t used to just be able to test on close contact & carry on. We had to isolate! Confused

shortterm · 06/01/2022 11:42

Probably more related to having a member of the household working in a hospital who have high occupation risk and whose boosters are now 4 months old who up to now have been given flimsy ffp1 masks as protection.

At least he is doing his isolation, unlike some people currently being investigated for not isolating last January...

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 06/01/2022 11:47

We've all caught it at different times so me and 3 dc, 4 lots of isolation last year and I've now got covid again so 5 for me

Apart from the people I live with I've never been a close contact (when close contacts had to isolate)

My dn had to isolate 4 times last year due to year bubble bursting . He hasn't had covid himself

lljkk · 06/01/2022 15:36

@QueenJeanie

He's tested positive twice. I guess it shows he's testing regularly.
that ... and he has a job where he meets heaps of people daily. Not wearing lots of PPE. It's an ultimate people job.
