New rules in Scotland

Does anyone know whether the new rules on Scotland, coming into force at midnight, apply to existing infections? For example people who are currently isolating under the old rules, say are on day 8 of a household contact isolation, can switch to the new rules from midnight, or do they have to "see through" the terms.of their original isolation?

I assumed they would apply to everyone from midnight. I'm currently in isolation with COVID and was hoping I might be able to come out earlier under the new rules Grin

liveforsummer · 05/01/2022 20:59

Day 8 it's too late as you have to have tested negative on day 6 and 7. If you were still positive on day 6 young not be able to go out on 8 even if you were negative by then, you'd have to do the full 10 days

dementedpixie · 05/01/2022 20:59

I'm coming out early under the new rules. I have been testing negative on LFTs

We're talking about isolating as a contact not the positive person
liveforsummer · 05/01/2022 21:02

@dementedpixie sorry covid brain fog, struggling to take things in properly, yes you're right. Dd is going to school tomorrow after previously having to isolate as my contact. She needs to test daily for 7 days. Double checked with head teacher

GrannyRoberts · 05/01/2022 21:03

It's a family member and they are a household contact and been testing negative daily. They did a postal PCR but due to being very rural, and the time of year, it's taken ages to come back. But under the new rules the negative LFTs should be enough, right?

liveforsummer · 05/01/2022 21:04

Ooh don't know - that's not mentioned in the update summary

dementedpixie · 05/01/2022 21:05

If the PCR is negative too then yes
Although I don't know if you even need a PCR for a close contact now

liveforsummer · 05/01/2022 21:09

The update is so vague. I wasn't sure if it even included household contacts as they've been specified as such for the last few weeks and now grouped back under close contacts. Perhaps there's a more detailed document on the Scot gov website but I find it difficult to navigate at the best of times

liveforsummer · 05/01/2022 21:09

My girls haven't needed a PCR even under old rules as they had covid last month

You don't, so I don't know whether that means they now don't have to wait for the pcr result. It could be days still based on previous experience. It's a nightmare to understand what's expected of us!

The scottish health minister tweeted anyone currently self isolating has to complete it.

New cases from tomorrow will follow new rules.

GrannyRoberts · 05/01/2022 21:16

Thanks all! It's all so confusing!

Do they mean when they have covid or are a close contact? Can you link?

OK thanks, that's helpful, even if it's not what I was hoping for.

Well that's just typical. I had to isolate as a contact because DC's PCR results took ages and came in just a couple hours after the change of rules re households. My PCR positive test has literally come in now so just over 2 hours before the rule change 🙈
dementedpixie · 05/01/2022 21:28

Why would it be new cases from tomorrow?
Doesn't make sense. I think a link needs to be provided

Skyechasemarshalontheway · 05/01/2022 21:29

It looks like the health minister deleted the part about it only being for new cases when i went and checked again. Maybe they've realised its not logical.

LizzieMacQueen · 05/01/2022 23:01

Wonder if this link will work. There are some long running threads over on Scotsnet.

I think its new cases only and not retrospectively.
dementedpixie · 05/01/2022 23:13

People currently isolating (especially as contacts) should be the safest people to start doing LFTs instead as they haven't mixed with anyone outside their household.

I'm coming out of isolation tomorrow as a contact as I've been doing LFTs every few days and they've all been negative. I will do one tomorrow too just to be sure.

dementedpixie · 05/01/2022 23:16

Plus why should those currently isolating with covid be penalised because of the date they got infected? Although dh is still coming up positive as of today (day 8 I think) so wouldn't get out of isolation early
