Track and trace just called as my son had positive lft then pcr on 3rd. I tested positive on 27.12,I've not had texts and emails from track and trace saying I've been identified as a contact of a positive case and so I need to isolate for 10 days, that isn't right is it? If he likely caught it from me anyway,my isolation is due to end on 6th,his day 10 is 13th

I said her son would probably not have got it if she were vaccinated because she'd have been less likely to get it and even if she did she'd be less contagious. Yes it still happens though.
I strap my kids in car seats. If there's a crash they are less likely to get hurt, yes they might still get hurt but it's less likely and therefore the responsible thing to do. I wear a seatbelt for the same reason.
Getting hurt less in a crash benefits me but also the wider community as it puts less strain on resources such as hospitals and ambulances. My recovery would hopefully be quicker and need less treatment. It's not only for my own good.

It's incorrect though to say that he probably would not have got it. The huge majority of people living in the household together do get Covid as it's so contagious, despite their vaccination status. It's more uncommon NOT to catch it from a household member.
SmileyClare · 06/01/2022 09:26

The rate of transmission is lowered by being vaccinated. That can't be disputed.

I find it hard to respect the choice to remain unvaccinated when all evidence is overwhelmingly in favour of having vaccinations.
Vaccination programmes work. They've already saved millions of people from death and disability. Small pox, polio, tetanus, diphtheria, measles are gone or seen very rarely in this country thanks to vaccination programmes being introduced.

Of course no one can force you, but you really don't have grounds to complain about the consequences of your choice.

Sunbeam18 · 06/01/2022 12:52

You probably have to isolate longer as a close contact of your son as you are unvaccinated. Vaccination is not just to protect you but to protect others around you. And anyone ignoring isolation and going for walks (as someone suggested unthread) is disgusting.

liveforsummer · 06/01/2022 16:58

The isolation rules when you actually have covid are not dependent on whether you've had the vaccine. (Which you think they would be if it's true that transmission is significantly lower). A lot of people on this thread making stuff up to try and get at OP for not being vaccinated.

They are different If you are vaccinated you can reduce your isolation period to 7 days if you test negative on 2 consecutive LFTs taken 24 hours apart with the first taken on day 6.
liveforsummer · 06/01/2022 17:09

OP isn't asking to reduce to 7 days though. She's asking to leave at the end of the 10 days which you can do whether you're vaccinated or not

liveforsummer · 06/01/2022 17:19

Although can you point me to the part where it says you have to be vaccinated to get out after day 7 as I've just looked at the NHS guidelines and it doesn't mention anything about vaccination on the page where it explains the 7 day thing

dementedpixie · 06/01/2022 17:26

Sorry I was getting confused with the new rules in Scotland (where they have just changed) where triple vaccinated can take 7 days worth of LFTs so end isolation as a close contact.

liveforsummer · 06/01/2022 17:35

@dementedpixie it actually doesn't say that anywhere either - only mentions having 3 vaccines in regard to not isolating as a close contact

liveforsummer · 06/01/2022 17:36

Sorry yes that's what you said misread it as that's not what were actually talking about thought you were comparing English to Scottish rules when you have covid

Badassbreastfeeder85 · 07/01/2022 15:20

If u test negative on day 6 and 7,u leave isolation regardless of vaccination status, I completed my 10 days as of midnight last night, my son can test on day 6 which is Sunday

@Waxonwaxoff0 do have any idea what schools were like in the beginning of the pandemic, all children were isolated to sit on individual tables for the entire day, they're weren't allowed to mix or play,I happened to go to my sons school to collect something during his play time,to see them walking round the edge of the playground,alone,2m apart not allowed to talk to each other or play,he was 7,my not wanting him to be in school wasn't driven by fear of covid,it was very stressful and unnerving for the children,in small bubbles of 6 children, rotation of adults etc etc

@Sunbeam18 you are incorrect with your isolation information
