5yr+ CEV Vaccines

paradyning · 01/01/2022 21:33

Anyone know when children 5yr+ meeting the green book criteria are likely to be able to book in for vaccination please?
JCVI recommended on the 23rd Dec. Are we just waiting for Government to sign off on it?

I cannot for the life of me manage to link to this but if you Google c1524 guidance it will bring up a PDF of the letter sent to all GPs etc on 23rd December which asks them to begin to identify these children but not to do anything else just yet.

I'm eagerly watching this as my children are eligible due to my immunosuppressed husband so would be keen to hear other people's experiences of when this is rolled out in other areas. It can't come soon enough for me!

Thisisanoutrage · 01/01/2022 22:32

Following as I also have an immunosuppressed husband (transplant recipient) and younger children. The 11 year old already has long covid and I really want to avoid him catching another strain. I had been naively hoping for before school starts again.

paradyning · 01/01/2022 22:49

Thanks that's really helpful. Fingers crossed for Jan then. Although suspect it will be too late once the schools go back.

thisisanoutrage hopefully having the vaccine will help with your 11yo long covid symptoms. I certainly noticed a difference in me the day after my booster.

kittensinthekitchen · 02/01/2022 01:56

We waited months following a previous change in the JCVI criteria for second doses for teenagers before having to chase it for ourselves.

I'd recommend approaching your local health board for the contact details of their covid vaccination team - ours managed to sort ours out within a couple of emails and a phone call

dippymootoo · 02/01/2022 16:36

I heard the delay was that the specific vaccine isn’t here yet and will be mid Jan but I don’t know if that’s correct.
I also naively hoped it would be before they go back or at least within a few days so we could delay our return.

HolidayMiracle · 02/01/2022 22:24

Can anyone tell me what the criteria will be? My DD (6) has a learning disability that would make her CEV if she was an adult but (apparently) not as a child, she also has a heart condition but it is currently not causing issues so don't know if that would count.

elliejjtiny · 02/01/2022 22:43

I'm also wondering what the criteria will be. I have a 10 year old with mild asthma, an 8 year old with a rare genetic condition similar to downs syndrome and a 7 year old with autism. I'm assuming the 10 year old won't be eligible but hoping the younger 2 will be.

Tealightsandd · 02/01/2022 22:51

Why are they taking so long? Other countries are already doing all 5+. We should at the very least get on with it for our most vulnerable children.

I hope that all of you waiting hear very soon.

Those of you unsure whether your dc will qualify, it's worth speaking to the GP or their consultant and asking if they can be included (if the doctor thinks appropriate).

BunsyGirl · 02/01/2022 23:18

It’s hugely frustrating that it’s not available in the U.K. for 5-11 year olds. We have a family member just about to start chemo and I want the vaccine for my 8 and 11 year old to reduce the risk of them getting Covid/passing it on as much as we can.

This would fit with what my GP surgery said when I asked about this just before Christmas - they confirmed that my dc has the correct CEV codes on her records but that as yet they have not information about when vaccination for this cohort will start. I'm gutted that it won't be before she goes back to school.

The criteria are on pages 20/21 of this link

That's excellent, thank you so much. That's made my day seeing it in black and white (green) like that.

elliejjtiny · 03/01/2022 10:52

Thankyou, looks like my 7 year old will definitely be eligible.

HolidayMiracle · 16/01/2022 09:38

Anyone heard anything regarding this yet?

QuestionableDanceMoves · 16/01/2022 12:36

That table of criteria is useful, to a point, but it doesn’t specify in detail all conditions that place the child as eligible.
For example, endocrine disorders- is it all endocrine disorders (which my daughter has and sees an endocrinologist 4 times a year) or is it just those listed?
How would I find out?

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 16/01/2022 12:50

Nothing @HolidayMiracle. We've been told different things by the GP, the vaccination service and the CCG. Meanwhile the BBC are reporting that the NHS is likely to have to bin vaccines because there isn't the demand. I know we are waiting on the specially measured phials but I have seen, possibly in the Green Book, that they could use the requisite amount of the ordinary Pfizer vaccine.

pinkpip100 · 16/01/2022 15:01

@HolidayMiracle nothing here either, GP
says they still have no information on how or when it will be rolled out. In the meantime I tested positive yesterday, it's incredibly hard to isolate completely from dc, so it looks as though she will catch it from me before she has the chance to get vaccinated. I'm gutted.

This is my worry; we've done so well avoiding it till now (and we've been very cautious about minimising our risk) but now 7 kids out of her class have tested positive- and surely we are just a few weeks away from a vaccine 😢

Bitnaf · 16/01/2022 15:39

I have two children under 12. One would be eligible under the conditions set out in the Lancet research study (asthma). The other has no health conditions. They were vaccinated a few days ago.

We live in Northern Ireland and drove two hours over the border to a children's vaccination centre.

They're happy to do it as long as you can provide an Irish phone number and address (which you could be technically visiting). A relative who lives there provided that. No need to produce health number or prove residency. All above board.

I think it is criminal that our children have been overlooked while healthy 20-30 year olds are triple jabbed.

Back in three weeks for the second one.

paradyning · 16/01/2022 18:32

Good for you bitnaf! Very glad someone has it!
I chased the GP. They said the 'CCG is currently planning how best to vaccinate that group'. It better come soon.
Sorry you now have covid op. Hope you are all ok

HolidayMiracle · 22/01/2022 11:51

A friend whose child has the same condition as mine has received an invitation letter! They live opposite end of the country so not directly useful for me but still progress - an NHS headed letter with a timed appointment for two weeks time for a 'Paediatric dose of Pfizer'.

Thought you'd all like to know 😂

Zebee · 22/01/2022 11:54

Glad it is getting nearer. Hopefully we can get to our cev kids soon. I haven’t heard anything yet but encouraged that somewhere it is starting to happen.

elliejjtiny · 22/01/2022 13:17

That sounds promising. My dc3 tested positive this week. Thankfully he got through it symptom free and the rest of us are still testing negative on day 6. Wish they would hurry up with the vaccine though. Still trying to find out if my 8 and 7 year olds are officially on the list for the vaccine. GP says they don't know anything and to phone 119. 119 said phone the GP!
