5yr+ CEV Vaccines

paradyning · 01/01/2022 21:33

Anyone know when children 5yr+ meeting the green book criteria are likely to be able to book in for vaccination please?
JCVI recommended on the 23rd Dec. Are we just waiting for Government to sign off on it?

Has anyone managed to book their under 12s vaccination yet? I contacted my GP again yesterday, they still say they haven't had any further information, but I thought I'd seen reports that it was now underway? I'm on day 10 of isolation and so far have managed to avoid passing it on to CEV dc, but it is rife in her school too and I really want to protect her - feeling a bit desperate here!

Beascheerfulasyoucan · 25/01/2022 14:37

I'm in Scotland and received a vaccine invitation letter for my CEV son yesterday. He's to attend a drop in this weekend for 1st and to get 2nd 8 weeks later

Beascheerfulasyoucan · 25/01/2022 14:38

Should have said he's 11

pinkpip100 · 25/01/2022 14:59

That's good news @Beascheerfulasyoucan

My experience is I am CV and I have 3 teens - so wrong age group being discussed BUT - I had a lot of issues getting my children the jabs. Technically they were allowed from September due to me. This required GP to correctly identify them and CODE them on the GP system as such.
This was missed in my case as my medication is prescribed by the hospital and so I was not coded correctly on my records.
Issue 2 - my GP's practice manager admitted to having misread the letter from the Gov on this - they have so much paperwork so never coded the children of CV people.
Once my children were correctly coded, they were then invited by text to a vaccination centre. The text was from a no respond number - arrived on a Friday and stated X and Y can be vaccinated between 3-5pm at this address on Monday. No choice, no recourse if we couldn't make it.
I hope lessons have been learnt but I wanted to make the point that you might have to make this happen.

pinkpip100 · 25/01/2022 17:36

Thanks @Garysmum - glad you managed to get it sorted for your dc in the end. I have checked and my dc is correctly coded as CEV on her records, it's just that the GP surgery say they haven't had any further information about how & when the vaccinations for CEV under 12s will be rolled out.

Infracat · 25/01/2022 23:13

There is a FB group called Clinically Vulnerable Families (CV/CEV) UK. They have been discussing this there and some children have already started getting their vaccines.

paradyning · 26/01/2022 08:48

Really promising updates! Thanks everyone. Still no sign of it here

I rang my GPS today to ask if my daughters medically record was coded correctly so that she would be invited for a vaccine when they start doing them in this area- the receptionist flat out refused to help, it was like she was reading a script “we can’t book the vaccine you have to do that online” I wasn’t asking to book the vaccine, “we have no information you have to look online” “only the booking line can help you” etc etc
The only thing I was asking of her was to pull up my daughters record and check it had been coded. I rang the local booking line as she insisted that’s who could help and surprise surprise- they can’t access the records!
It shouldn’t be a battle to access the vaccine ffs

paradyning · 26/01/2022 18:52

I managed to get through the receptionist and speak to the office staff who are doing the coding. Can you email the manager of the practice and completely bypass the receptionists?

QuestionableDanceMoves · 26/01/2022 19:22

The practice don’t publicise their email address unfortunately @paradyning otherwise I absolutely would.
I’m going to contact her consultants secretary tomorrow and ask for a letter stating she should be on the list and then I’ll take that into the GPs myself

5yr+ CEV Vaccines
flapjackfairy · 26/01/2022 19:37

I am haranging my gp to get it for my 7 yr old so that he can hopefully finally return to school. They rang a few days ago to say that they are waiting for some legal paperwork and also the lower strength vacine. They hope to have both by the end of Jan and can then get on with it. So we shall see next week I guess.

pinkpip100 · 26/01/2022 20:05

@QuestionableDanceMoves - my GP practice is the same - absolutely no Covid vaccination enquiries allowed over the phone. I eventually managed to speak to someone who talked me through how to submit a vaccination 'allergy query' online form via their website (it was very much hidden away, I would never have found it, let alone thought to use it for a CEV query). Anyway, it turns out it's a pretty effective way to communicate with the doctors - I think it's monitored by a duty GP who then replies to the queries via text, usually pretty quickly too.

Covidworries · 26/01/2022 21:55

We havent had letter yet. GP receptionist wasnt much help. GP was very good, although, didnt know when we would get letter. Although, did say by time the vaccine has been done and 2nd dose we could be may time before coverage from vaccine. And that has risk of going to next winter with wanning protection so would likely meed a booster in autumn if this are available.

Goonergirl14 · 26/01/2022 22:01

I am in Scotland and my 10 year old DS with ASD is booked in for Sunday, lots of people I know have had their letters through. I haven't been keeping much up to date with the vaccination rollout to be honest so wasn't sure if England was starting to vaccinate 5-11 year olds yet.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 27/01/2022 10:03

Thanks for all the info everyone.

I've just e-mailed my local PCN to flag up DD. (That's what eventually worked with DS).

paradyning · 27/01/2022 10:40

What is PCN?

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 27/01/2022 14:32

Primary Care network, @paradyning .

As far as I know, each council has one, run by local GPs. Where I live, they're the ones who have been organising the vaccine roll-out. So, technically, it is the GPs doing it, but they're keeping it separate from general practice.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 27/01/2022 16:07

I HAVE HAD A TEXT INVITING ME TO BOOK DS'S APPOINTMENT!
Sorry for shouting :)
Now to keep him virus free for another few weeks.

Our dr surgery phoned this morning and said my 8yr old can attend a clinic next Thursday to have her vaccination

ExcaliburBaby · 27/01/2022 17:33

My 7 year old had the text invite today but as far as I know he isn’t vulnerable- in fa cat he has had Covid twice with nothing more than a runny nose! He was 6weeks premature though - could that be it?

pinkpip100 · 27/01/2022 17:50

Still nothing here 😞
