Pubs in our area have decided to close at 10pm tonight due to the high rates of covid and staff shortages.
Any other areas doing the same?
How many other businesses will have to collectively close before Boris /Rishi steps in ?

OP posts:
MrsLargeEmbodied · 31/12/2021 07:14

yes, there are a few

GoodnightGrandma · 31/12/2021 07:14

No, not here.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 31/12/2021 07:15

but what is the difference between 10 pm and 1 am?
just a precaution i should think rather than anything else,
unless of course they feel they need more staff if they are having a Do

Member589500 · 31/12/2021 07:17

All normal around here (London).
Not sure what Boris or Rishi can do about your local at this point?

Mybalconyiscracking · 31/12/2021 07:19

Well my DD has a booth booked at our local nightclub and will be out until 4 in the morning. She is 18 and I am thrilled that she is getting a shot at a “normal” life at last!
Especially after her being locked in her bedroom with COVID, for 10 days up to the 23-Dec.

Xmasiscancelledagain · 31/12/2021 07:21

I'm of the belief that Covid is a very convenient get out clause for staff who don't want to work over the festive period. Its amazing how many people have Covid and a guaranteed 10 days off over Christmas when their annual leave request was cancelled. Hmm. Where DH works, they are being asked to work tomorrow and Sunday when they wouldn't usually and its amazing how many fit and healthy people have suddenly developed Covid in the last 24 hours.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 31/12/2021 07:21

No, they're not doing that. One of the local pubs has sold out of tickets for the new year party.

NynaeveSedai · 31/12/2021 07:22

That would be a very self destructive act for businesses who have relied on Christmas/new year to balance some of their losses, I can't think why they would do that unless they literally don't have the staff.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 31/12/2021 07:27

the pub that i wanted to go to has sold out of tickets

PermanentTemporary · 31/12/2021 07:30

The restaurant my bf and I are going to was keen to have quite a late dinner booking so I don't think it's happening here.

But difficult to fake, as PCR tests are run in labs.

Though I suppose you could score 48hours or so by claiming positive LFT and awaiting PCR. Very shitty thing to do though

MrsLargeEmbodied · 31/12/2021 08:04

i didnt want to go to work either but my lateral flows are negative

Yes this is what people in dhs work have been doing to get extra days off this Christmas (all shifts running as normal apart from Christmas Day)
He’s been extremely short staffed, on Boxing Day out of a group of 16, 12 phoned in sick!

TreborBore · 31/12/2021 10:10

It will happen. When I was a teen working in hospitality, Xmas day and NYE paid triple time. If businesses paid a decent premium for the shifts, staff would come in unless genuinely positive.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 31/12/2021 10:28

All normal here and a few resturants staying open later.

How ridiculous. You need to provide proof ....how if all these staff members are 'faking' it?

Porcupineintherough · 31/12/2021 10:34

Our local closed Christmas Eve as so many staff were positive. It is not opening tonight.

Porcupineintherough · 31/12/2021 10:36

Oh and that includes the landlords, who I doubt would be taking as it's their business that is being damaged.

Porcupineintherough · 31/12/2021 10:36

faking it

DynamiteFilledRadish · 31/12/2021 10:37

All perfectly normal here. All the places that are having ticketed events are sold out. Can't wait!

mafted · 31/12/2021 10:39

It's not difficult to fake the text telling you positive or negative.

Pegasussnail · 31/12/2021 10:41

It's 8pm national curfew here (Ireland) and has been over the Christmas period I think until mid January

Same here. And a taxi home, now it’s flat rate and having to pay the taxi fare yourself, or so I understand from people who are in that industry.

After being asked to work New Years Day at the last minute, or after having annual leave over Christmas cancelled last minute, can you really blame them?

Literally everyone has suffered and sacrificed because of covid restrictions, I can’t blame anyone, as a one off, making the rules work to their advantage.

Bellie99 · 31/12/2021 10:47

Our local village pub has closed entirely today because of staff shortages. However they know they will be open tomorrow for lunch.
