We have tickets for me and DC2 to go to the panto on the 2nd but I'm not 100% sold on going yet.

My DC loves theatre/singing and I really feel like he's missed out enough already with no choir/drama/shows. So am desperate to take him.

I've been triple boosted and am a SAHM so no issues with missing work if I get Covid and have to isolate. Would rather DC didn't miss school, but feel it's inevitable we'll get it at some point so 🤷.

I'm interested to know how many other people have been to pantomimes this year and if anyone who did go thinks they caught covid there. Or indeed, if you went and were then fine.

We are not London or home counties based but we are in the South. Locally cases are just below average.

I went with 300 scouts.

One case of Covid afterwards.

MerryBumpmas · 27/12/2021 16:29

Just go, don’t let your son miss out. They have missed out on so much!

Spacemonkey2016 · 27/12/2021 16:33

We went this afternoon. Theatre was busy and I enjoyed it. I guess it depends on your own risk assessment. I'm double vaccinated and had my booster, am not frequenting packed places every week. Being able to take my DS for his Xmas treat was the most important thing for me. Obviously there was lots of singing, audience shouting out, so that may be something to consider if you're at all worried.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 27/12/2021 16:33

Didn't think twice about going. Didn't get ill. Also the Santa train, and a holiday abroad all in the last month.

DH and I have had two doses (I'm due third tomorrow) and DDs had Covid in October.

JustLikeaJingleBell · 27/12/2021 16:34

I'd definitely go if I had tickets

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 27/12/2021 16:34

I've been once and am going again tonight.

superking · 27/12/2021 16:36

I went and didn't get covid! But it clearly is fairly high risk, so I wouldn't have gone if I was anxious to avoid getting it.

WakeUpLockie · 27/12/2021 16:41

We went this morning. I’m pregnant so was a bit wary despite being boosted. It was AMAZING and I’m soooo glad we went. The theatre was less than half full so no queues for anything and we could have spread out. The show was amazing and I’m so glad we supported. I LFTd beforehand as I hope everyone else would have done, to protect others like me. But obviously no idea if they did, the theatre didn’t request it. They did request masks and most people wore them and some wore them incorrectly. But mostly people were following the rules. So glad we went!

Took my 2 teenagers to a sell-out performance in Glasgow on 7th Dec.

Loved it. Brilliant show, just lovely being back in that environment with people laughing and having fun.

Tigersteakpie · 27/12/2021 16:45

Thanks everyone so far.

I'm not hugely anxious about getting it, but I would definitely avoid it if it was almost certain I'd get it - if you know what I mean. Like, for example I avoided my work Xmas party (drinks in a busy pub on the 20th) because it just felt unnecessary and sure enough my colleagues all got covid.

But this is different as it's something I want to do, and something I know my son wants to do. Like the PP said they have missed out on so much already.

We will definitely LFT before we go.

I'm feeling more confident now, just need some people to say 'yep I went and it was worth it'!

We took DD for the first time and it was sooo worth it to see her little face all lit up in excitement, it's what life is all about. Felt fine, don't think we got covid there.

BasinHaircut · 27/12/2021 16:48

We were meant to go Xmas Eve but I tested positive for covid so we swapped tickets to the 31st. Assuming I’m allowed out of isolation on day 7/8 and neither DH nor DS test positive before then we will 100% be going.

mistermagpie · 27/12/2021 17:05

We went just before Christmas, a group of three families, seven children. Some wore masks throughout the performance but I didn't. Theatre was full.

None of us caught Covid, we adults are all triple vaxxed and three of us have had Covid, so we took the chance. I'd do it again.

mistermagpie · 27/12/2021 17:06

It was worth it by the way, we all had a brilliant time!

Snozwanger · 27/12/2021 17:12

I'm a SAHM too OP and DH is self employed working from home so we are hardly mixing with others. I booked ages ago but became a bit hesitant closer to the date when Omicron was announced but we've missed so much in the last couple of years I felt we owed it to the kids to do something nice. Both sets of our parents are double vaxxed and boosted along with both of us so we just took the risk. We went on 20th and don't have any kind of symptoms, not even like a cold.

CagneyNYPD1 · 27/12/2021 17:13

I also have tickets for the 2nd for myself and DD. Town in the SE but above average rates. We have been careful, especially in the run up to Xmas. We have really only spent time with close family.

I am triple jabbed and DD had asymptotic Covid in October but not yet old enough for the jab. We will LFT on the day and go if all clear. I feel that it is important to be sensible but there is a difference between being sensible and removing all activities/ creating your own Lockdown. I am not prepared to do the latter.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/12/2021 17:16

Went on Christmas eve. Not caught Covid that I know of. I had Covid in August, caught it at work.

motherrunner · 27/12/2021 17:16

I got a refund as my DCs tested positive last week. The only silver lining of Covid, being able to have a refund for an event I was in tie minds about! (Had to send the NHS confirmation email)

motherrunner · 27/12/2021 17:17

*two

venusmay · 27/12/2021 17:18

We went last week, no problems at all. We've been vaccinated, wore a mask in and out of the theatre and did usual gelling of hands. All okay since, don't miss out on the fun!

Vallmo47 · 27/12/2021 17:22

We went and it was amazing!!! Please go and don’t even think about covid - you could pick that up from popping into Aldi for a pint of milk! I do understand but your odds of getting it are way higher from school cases. I say that as someone who had covid way before going to pantomime. I’d risk it again.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 27/12/2021 17:26

Our city panto has been sold out for entire time. Some people wore masks and some didn't. Was amazing fun and numbers in area have stayed level. Do it!

PyjamaMamma · 27/12/2021 17:27

We went on the 23rd and no covid here so far. LFT ok Christmas Day before going off to relative’s home and I also tested yesterday and today as I had a close contact alert from the covid app. All negative so fingers crossed all good. I’m so glad we went as all the activities we wanted to go on this week have been cancelled (we’re in Wales).

shouldistop · 27/12/2021 17:35

I went on the 23rd. Which is just as well as all fun is now banned by queen Nicola

Alayalaya · 27/12/2021 17:44

The panto in my local town has closed down repeatedly due to the cast having Covid. They’ve had three different princesses and two princes so far. The replacements only had one day rehearsal to get up to speed with the part. Apparently it’s really obvious that they’re under-rehearsed. So that’s what’s putting me off more than anything - apparently it’s not very good because of the constant replacements.
