DH positive, I’m negative with same symptoms?

Yesterday DH came over with a fever, burning hot to touch, headache, backache, couldn’t get warm (despite burning up), tested positive on LFT today. I’ve had the same symptoms (temperature hasn’t been as bad however) and I’m negative on LFT (I test every day).
Going for a PCR tomorrow. Is it likely my lateral flows are just wrong?!

Probably a false negative lft

CherryAndAlmond · 26/12/2021 16:22

We've had the same situation in our house for several days now. It's very confusing!

nosleepgang4life · 26/12/2021 16:25

Same here husband positive I'm negative same symptoms.

Had a PCR, Same results!

Hoping I have a cold and that that's what's stopped me picking up covid.

Tooboo · 26/12/2021 16:26

I’m starting to think LFTs just don’t work on some people! Today was the first time DH has ever done one and the Covid line came up solid instantly. Mine doesn’t even have a hint of a faint line!

I'm still waiting on my pcrs (on day 4 now) , but my daughters came bsxm negative this morning, and me and dp both had 2 positive lfts, but we've all had the Exact same symtpms. Can only assume its infection dates or something and my DD is actually positive.

Mochacino · 26/12/2021 17:13

You need a PCR. I was symptomatic and PCR positive and never once had a positive Lateral flow.

MaverickSnoopy · 26/12/2021 17:21

You both need a pcr. I know several people who tested positive on pcr and never fested positive on lft the while of their isolation period. Hope you both feel better soon.

Arsewangry · 26/12/2021 17:22

When we had it dh tested positive Friday afternoon. I was coughing and feeling crap all weekend and kept testing negative but finally tested positive the Monday morning.

JorisBonson · 28/12/2021 18:21

@Tooboo did your PCR come back? In exactly the same boat!

Tooboo · 28/12/2021 18:39

Ah man 😔 DH had a positive LFT this morning and all mine are negative so far despite sounding and feeling like I've eaten a bag of gravel. PCR tomorrow.

Madlymumming · 28/12/2021 18:45

We are a household of 4. All had the same symptoms a year ago. 3 of us tested positive on PCR. DH was negative yet is the only one with Long Covid. Go figure.

JorisBonson · 29/12/2021 09:24

Morning LFT negative, I feel rotten and exactly like DH did a couple of days ago 😒 PCR at 11.

mibbelucieachwell · 29/12/2021 09:31

DS had this in his flat in early December.
Flatmate 1 symptoms - positive LF - positive PCR
Flatmates 2 and 3 same symptoms 2 days later - negative LFS - negative PCRs
Flatmate 1 had covid in June so we wonder if he has residual covid being picked up?

CorsicaDreaming · 29/12/2021 11:40

I think I may be misunderstanding your post, @mibbelucieachwell but I really can't believe someone who had Covid in June can have any residual from that in December?
Hoppinggreen · 29/12/2021 11:43

I have been really ill with tonsillitis, checked for Covid with LF but negative.
DH has no symptoms at all but did a LF before visiting the dentist and he is positive.
I have checked again today as my tonsillitis is getting better but I still feel really ill and I’m still negative while DH is fine but still positive
Really odd

mibbelucieachwell · 29/12/2021 11:47

@CorsicaDreaming I agree it seems unlikely. It seems so strange that they all had the same symptoms but only the one set of LFs and PCRs were positive. Could be that the negatives were false negatives but again that would be several matching LFs and PCRs all incorrect.
Could have been that the negatives were colds and the positive was covid? All very strange.

scooterbear · 29/12/2021 12:07

Exactly same here. As there are no let's left and no pcr's to be had I'm assuming my Test was wrong or else it just hadn't shown up yet and assuming we are both positive. Feel awful anyway so not like I would be going anywhere anyway

CorsicaDreaming · 29/12/2021 12:22

@mibbelucieachwell - I agree it does all just seem very weird how many mismatches there are of one person being positive and others negative but with the same symptoms. At same times.

I've got to the point where it feels like we are living in a version of The Matrix with a series of bizarre non-versions of reality being piped in!

Agree there doesn't seem any logical explanation on your sons flat scenario...

JorisBonson · 29/12/2021 20:46

Cor I feel crap tonight. If this test is negative then God knows what going on.

DH, on the other hand, is thoroughly enjoying his isolation and running around on the VR.

Alfixn · 29/12/2021 20:51

There's no such thing as a perfect diagnostic test. One person just may not shed virus in the same way or same amount as most other people. This goes for other diseases too, not just covid.
Trust me, if there's a confirmed positive in the house, and you develop the same symptoms as them, you have covid!!

JorisBonson · 29/12/2021 20:53

Not doubting that @Alfixn, will be interesting tho!

DH has also given me the mega cold not once but twice in the past couple of months so he owes me big time 🤣

DoThePropeller · 29/12/2021 21:03

I saw a Twitter thread about swabbing your throat and your nose, lots of people testing negative on nose only swabs but getting positive when doing both. Omicron presents different symptoms so feasible the viral load isn’t behaving in exact same way too - e.g. more of it in throat than nose in early days of virus.

JorisBonson · 29/12/2021 21:18

@DoThePropeller that's how DH got his positive - still negative for me!

JorisBonson · 31/12/2021 11:22

Negative PCR, DH positive. Just a bog standard lurgy for me then (third in as many months!).
