Omicron Symptoms

FanGirlX · 26/12/2021 00:31

Ok, so family all together for Christmas, since lunch time on CE. I now have a blocked and runny nose and a cough, plus headache. Mum has a cough. DD3 sniffing.

Are these Omicron symptoms? I think we will all be taking LFTs in the morning.

Omicron I'd COVID.

Similar symptoms

If you don't feel well get a bloody pcr. Lfts are not for symptomatic people, they're to catch people without symptoms.

CagneyNYPD1 · 26/12/2021 00:37

Yep, PCRs needed. Good luck.

user1471453601 · 26/12/2021 00:39

According to Prof Tim Spectre who heads the Zoe Covid symptoms app that collects information from over four million people, this new variants systems are a sore throat, runny ,, sneezing and a headache.

He's trying to get the government to change its website to reflect this. SAGE agree, according to yesterday's Guardian.

hayley013 · 26/12/2021 00:40

We've got it, started with colds symptoms, headache that wouldn't shift, aching all over now, kids are positive with no symptoms

This is the confusing thing isn't it. Omicron symptoms seem to be different from the other variants.

Whatever variant my workplace caught we all started with a cold. And there were a lot of us!

user1471453601 · 26/12/2021 00:56

@FanGirlX, yes it is confusing, which is why Tim Spector is trying to get the government to change its website to reflect this new variant.

In one respects, it's good news as it appears this one is less likely to infect deep lung tissue, so less likely they will need hospital. On the other hand, it appears to be spreading more rapidly, so more people will need hospital admission.

And it's bad news for me. Tim Spector reckons there are 50% of people with "colds" who actually have covid. I have, on a number of occasions, been hospitalised following colds. So I'm still very careful, which in turn means my family and friends are very careful around me.

Ah well.

FanGirlX · 26/12/2021 00:56

Other than DD3, we are all triple jabbed.

Would it come on this quickly though, we've only all been together for 1.5 days?

Slight runny nose, cough, headache, aches all over.
Positive pcr yesterday not shown at all on lft!

We can isolate as a household for 7 plus days. No one is due back in work until 4/1. Thank god for Christmas- we've got a load of food and booze in stock.

We can't start testing anyone with a runny nose or a headache. The country would shut down if everyone with those symptoms has to take 2 or more days off work while getting a test! And PCR tests cost the government £30 or so a time, we can't keep on testing for every minor cold that people get forever - where does it end??

YouHaveNoAuthorityHereJackie · 26/12/2021 05:18

DH went for a pcr on Christmas Eve which has just come back positive. We’ve all had colds this week and have tested with lateral flows every single day, none have shown a positive. All off for PCRs today. Thank god we’ve not seen anyone. I’ve woken up feeling absolutely awful, shivering but absolutely raging temperature, and from the biscuit I’ve just nibbled I’m pretty sure my taste has gone. Gutted. We were all really ill last year with covid. At least we managed a nice Christmas Day before it all went to pot this year Sad

SNUG2022 · 26/12/2021 05:24

It's about 2 days to spread omicron.

Crackingowlsanctuary · 26/12/2021 08:53

I have it and everyone i know who has it the past couple of weeks it seems to be affecting our noses…. Blocked up, stuffy, runny, sinus pressure…

FanGirlX · 26/12/2021 08:56

Have woken up feeling slightly worse, mild headache cold. Negative LFT. Mum has cough and negative LFT. BIL had asymptomatic covid 2 months ago, negative LFT today. DSIS no symptoms and negative LFT also.

Sux2Buthen · 26/12/2021 09:01

So at present omicron is essentially a cold. I'm not a skeptic in any way, I'm just weighing up what's going on.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 26/12/2021 09:01

We can't start testing anyone with a runny nose or a headache

That's unfortunately true.

But not really relevant to OP whi described a new cough in two people, and that is a symptom for which one should test.

And yes, onset of omicron is faster

Previous variants: 4-6 days, range 2-14
Omicron: 3-5 days, range still being established but expected to start earlier

vroc81 · 26/12/2021 09:09

I’ve had a cold and tested positive.. the people I was with at work before hand and my DD have all had same symptoms and tested negative again and again on lfts and twice on PCR… so you might just have a cold…

MajesticWhine · 26/12/2021 09:16

I have tested positive for covid. It's a stinking cold but worse. I am very congested and sneezy. Started with sore throat and fever and body aching all over.

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 26/12/2021 09:18

@FanGirlX have you booked PCRs?
Lateral flows are for a symptomatic testing Flowers

FanGirlX · 28/12/2021 08:41

DD and I went for PCRs on Monday lunchtime- results aren't back yet. All our symptoms have gone. LFTs are still negative.

OP posts:
RickyZooom · 28/12/2021 08:45

I’ve just tested positive in london so presume it’s omicron. First symptom was a dry scratchy throat and dry cough. Day 3 now ( I think) and it feels like it’s turning a bit more chesty/phlegmy.

ssd · 28/12/2021 09:00

Hope you test negative @FanGirlX

User135644 · 28/12/2021 09:03

You wonder if it's been here longer and when everyone was ill with a cold a couple of months back it was that.
FanGirlX · 28/12/2021 09:06

@User135644

DD and I both got the mega cold in September but tested negative for COVID on PCRs. It was a really bad cold. We spent a weekend in bed together, half asleep, half watching CBeebies! We were ill for about 10 days but that weekend was particularly bad.
