Do I message my colleagues who are on annual leave to say I've tested positive?

No call from track and trace yet but I tested positive last night. I was in work on Monday with mild cold symptoms, went home as they got worse and was off sick rest of week. I saw them on Monday and they are now on annual leave for Christmas. Do I need to let them know or am I just ruining their Christmas with anxiety about maybe having caught it? I feel so guilty

I’d message them. They can then make their own decisions. If they’re double vaxxed they only need to do LFTs for a week don’t they? If they have CEV family they will appreciate the warning.

pinkcattydude · 24/12/2021 09:12

Do you not have a policy at work? We have to report any positives to our manager, they then deal with all notifications for other colleagues.

LawnFever · 24/12/2021 09:14

Yeah you need to but they only need to do lateral flows for 7 days unless they have symptoms, hope you feel better soon.

oftenbaffled · 24/12/2021 09:15

They were no doubt pissed off you were In work on Monday with mild cold symptoms anyway.
So nothing to lose but just adding to their existing pissed off was with you!

Can I ask why you were showing symptoms at the beginning of the week, but only tested last night?

MoiraNotRuby · 24/12/2021 09:16

I'd tell them. You might have caught it from them, they might have caught it from you, no one can be sure.

Where does it say the OP only tested last night? It says she got a postivr result last night, which could very probably have been from a test taken earlier in the week, as I results in some areas are taking a while to come back.

OP did not test last night. OP got a result last night.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 24/12/2021 09:18

*I believe results

Flowerlane · 24/12/2021 09:36

Why did you go to work Monday? You shouldn’t have.

loobylou10 · 24/12/2021 09:42

Bloody covid police out in force again! Can't stand the know it all attitude that usually appear in these threads - she went home as soon as symptoms became apparant and got her result last night - didn't just test last night.

santaclothes · 24/12/2021 09:46

@Flowerlane

Mild cold symptoms. Got worse. OP went home.

This is not an invitation to attack here. OP has don't nothing wrong.

User2638483 · 24/12/2021 09:47

I think when test and trace call you they may ask you for details of your colleagues so it will probably be easier to say you let them know already.
It’s a tricky one because I can see that you don’t want to cause them unnecessary worry, ignorance is bliss and all that and there’s so much about they could get from anywhere.

But I think you’re obliged to so yes I’d send a quick message to those you were within 2 metres of for more than 15 mins.

Flowerlane · 24/12/2021 09:48

@santaclothes haven’t attacked the op I have asked why she went to work if she had symptoms! Even mild symptoms we are told to get tested.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 24/12/2021 09:50

can you contact the manager and ask them to share the news?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 24/12/2021 09:51

how much close contact did you have?

Forgetaboutme · 24/12/2021 09:51

When did you test? If Wednesday or before then yeah I would text them rather than have them find out through track and trace especially if I was friendly with them.

Don't feel bad about going to work with mild cold symptoms. That isnt even listed as an official symptom to book a test!

santaclothes · 24/12/2021 09:53

You told her she shouldn't have.

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 24/12/2021 09:54

If it helps, DHs colleagues all text each other if they, or a family member test positive. Then they all make up their minds who was in close enough contact to be worried about it and go from there.

Seems to be a sensible approach.

Flowerlane · 24/12/2021 09:56

@santaclothes and???? That’s not an attack it’s a fact🙄 If unwell she shouldn’t have gone into work.

If she says the ‘mild symptoms’ only came on during the work day then fair enough but she hasn’t stated that, and it reads that she went to work unwell.

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 24/12/2021 09:57

I would, they can do extra LFT before visiting family & be a bit more careful than they otherwise might

sheeplikessleep · 24/12/2021 09:57

Let them know. When you tested was by the by. But I would question why you went into work with cold symptoms, but maybe you’re only paid if you go in or something so we don’t know the reasons why or context.

santaclothes · 24/12/2021 09:58

It's not a fact at all. You don't have all the facts. None of us do. Stop being dramatic with your punctuation.

rosesarereddish · 24/12/2021 09:58

I'm 6 weeks pregnant and have morning sickness and I'm not sleeping well so I felt a bit rough but when in anyway. My cold symptoms were a blocked nose and just feeling achy. I had no reason to suspect covid at that point at all. I went home early as I started to feel really unwell. I did a PCR on my way home to be safe which came back inconclusive. I had to take another one which came back at midnight saying positive.
