I tested positive on a pcr at the start of December. My laterals were negative on day 1, 2, and 11. I wasn't too ill. Had a cough, fatigue and some chest discomfort.

I've woken up this morning feeling like I've got the flu. Just done a lateral and it's positive.

I've got a pcr booked. But it looks like I've been reinfected doesn't it?

Poor you. Yes it sounds very much ad if you had delta originally and are now giving omicron a go. Sad

piscis · 23/12/2021 06:44

I would think so if your lateral flow was negative on day 11 and it is positive now with new symptoms, but seems too soon!
I am getting a PCR today as I developed a cough two days ago, but had covid in November! Lateral flow negative

beingsunny · 23/12/2021 06:54

It does happen, a friend had covid and was in hospital. Recovered, neg LFTs for two weeks then got it again

Happydaysandhappysmiles · 23/12/2021 08:12

How long does it normally take before people test negative post infection? We never checked and now regretting it. Although not sure I actually shook covid off...

On a PCR up to 90 days although that is rare. On a LFT it drops off quickly. DD is on day 7 now and has been negative on LFT since day 4. We didn't check earlier as she was really poorly. Other DD was negative on LFT on day 10, again we didn't check any earlier, her school insisted on it before returning.
fleur27 · 23/12/2021 08:19

I didn't think you were allowed to book a PCR within 90 days of previous positive? Is that not the case? How would they know if it's new or a positive from previous infection? Hope it's not a reinfection and you feel better for Xmas.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 23/12/2021 08:22

You don't test after Covid for 90 days as it can still show positive.

FingonTheValiant · 23/12/2021 08:42

You can retest if you have new symptoms. That’s the official guidelines. The no retesting in 90 days thing is only for no symptoms.

zafferana · 23/12/2021 08:43

God, you poor thing! That is seriously unlucky.

milkysmum · 23/12/2021 08:56

You don't test for 90 days after having had covid due to potential viral shedding showing up a false positive, unless you have new symptoms- then you complete a PCR in case it's a new infection.

Evza · 23/12/2021 08:58

Yep, I've got new symptoms. I had a cough for a few days with first bout of covid. That went and I've had a new cough since yesterday.
PCR booked for this afternoon.

I know several friends in London who had Delta in Sept/Oct and now have Omicron. The government are still not including reinfections in the daily case numbers, which seems madness now it appears previous infection gives little protection against Omicron.

Hope you feel better soon OP!

itscoldinhere · 23/12/2021 09:09

I was told by Track and Trace not to do a PCR within 90 days of my last positive one as it can still read positive.

I had a PCR on Monday and it was positive. So were LFTs. I've been testing every day on LFT (and watching the positive slowly fade) and now I'm testing negative. When I told Track and Trace this during their follow up questions I asked if I could have a PCR to confirm negative at the end of isolation and they said no as it would still be positive even though I no longer have it.

I'm surprised then that they've given you two PCRs within that timeframe.

x2boys · 23/12/2021 09:22

I thought you shouldn't test within 90 days?
My son has also just tested positive it's his second time too ,last time was July which I thought was bad enough 😭
Hope you don't feel to unwell Op .

Cindercat · 23/12/2021 09:48

The guidance is super clear - I honestly think this is part of the problem, that people just don't read it properly or remember main points but not everything. Don't take another PCR within 90 days of a positive unless you have new symptoms, which the OP does. Bit scary how many people don't realise this and are probably blithely walking around with a second Covid infection because they think they don't have to test again within 90 days!

Evza · 24/12/2021 07:03

Pcr has come back positive too :(

Bobholll · 24/12/2021 07:10

I know a couple people who had presumably Delta in November & now have Omicron 😭 you can def get it again quite quickly. It’ll be the two different variants though. You won’t catch Delta twice so quickly! You can actually catch Delta & Omicron at the same time 🙈

piscis · 24/12/2021 07:14

My LFT became positive yesterday afternoon ( it had been negative in the morning and the previous day), waiting for the PCR result, but is is clearly going to be positive. Only 6 weeks between infections for me, ridiculous!

walksen · 24/12/2021 07:14

Sympathies. Last year I got covid in late October but had the consolation that I would be ok for Christmas.

Guessing first time was delta and now Omicron. The reports from UK health suggest 10% of infections are Reinfections so at least 10k a day and most likely a lot more.

This will likely cause chaos in hospitals care homes and especially schools in the new year when kids and staff get reinfected with Omicron after being allowed to catch delta last term.

piscis · 24/12/2021 07:15

I also know of someone else reinfected in 4 weeks.

Sasketchewoo · 24/12/2021 08:03

That's so rubbish for you OP. I hope you can still manage to enjoy something of Christmas

Porcupineintherough · 24/12/2021 10:52

Ah sorry to hear that OP, really bad luck. How are you feeling?

This time is worse than the first time. I'm full of cold and head feels really stuffy. Eyes are itchy and I feel so hot, but I haven't got a temperature.

Nootkah · 24/12/2021 11:31

@fleur27 That is the case unless you've been well and then develop new symptoms.

Riomama · 26/12/2021 19:03

@Evza how are you doing now?
