To not want ANOTHER booster?

121 replies

PinkiePonk · 21/12/2021 15:53

So I've had a pretty terrible reaction to the booster (MODERNA). Up all night throwing up, couldn't move, passed out twice, thought I was dying kinda thing.

AIBU to not want any more boosters?

@scarvesandsocks

I hate being jabbed all the time too - I just feel like saying leave me alone.

I really hope they don't keep this all going. I know some pps have said it's not as bad as getting Covid. But having a jab every 3 to 6 months seems really extreme, especially if you're also getting the flu jab as well.

I won't be having it every 3-6 months. I have a needle phobia and I'd be living from jab to jab. It won't be happening.

Why is it we were meant to have the same brand for the first 2 vacs but folk are getting given random booster brands?

Do you mean something in addition to the research that says which boosters are most effective?

@AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair
i mean:
When we were all having our #1 and #2 jabs i thought the advice/intention was to give the same for 1 and 2. So both AZ or both Pzr.

So ... why are we not being given ''matching'' boosters?

I'm no scientist, my question is as basic as it sounds Grin

Also - why is it only Pzr or Moderna offered as boosters?
My 1 and 2 were AZ. This thread is making me nervous about having Moderna as a booster. I'm prob not the only one!

I don't really know how to answer your question other than what I've already posted

The scientific research shows that moderna and pfizer are the most effective boosters

It's false premise to assume that you should be having 3 of the same vaccines. Maybe you could explain why you're assuming that should be the case

Tigerwhocameforsupper · 21/12/2021 18:27

I had Pfizer for the first 2 doses and was give the same as a booster yesterday. I’ve decided I’m not having anymore.

I’ve had covid and I felt more unwell after the vaccine than I did when I had it.

My arm was so incredibly painful last night I had about 2 hours sleep.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 21/12/2021 18:28

@phishy

YANBU, I was all set out to walk out of my booster appt if they didn't offer me Pfizer. My first 2 were Pfizers and I didn't want to take the chance of a different one.

There were plenty of walk ins waiting for a booster so my slot wouldn't have been wasted.

I would have had AZ again if it had been an option. As it wasn't, I got Pfizer today and hope I'll be ok as my mum and son were both fine with it.

DH had Moderna though and he was fine with that, too. We're all different.

Just10moreminutesplease · 21/12/2021 18:33

I’ve had two doses of pfeizer and a moderna booster. Zero side effects with the first two and v mild aches and pains with the third.

Based on my experience I’d happily have as many boosters as I’m offered. I’m not sure how I’d feel if I’d been ill after though.

Unless your very remote you should have a choice of places to book and walk in centres. Maybe look for somewhere offering a different vaccine next time?

Allthepickles · 21/12/2021 18:39

I’m dreading the booster, booked in for end of first week in Jan. Felt like death after my first AZ vaccine, never experienced a headache like that in my life. Just a sore arm after second AZ thankfully. So booster is booked in but I may cancel if things settle down at all by then.

Just in case you don't know, AZ isn't given as a boster so while you might feel rough it won have anything to do with your original jabs

Hope you'll be ok! I had a slight fever and sore arm but that's it.

ihearttc · 21/12/2021 20:04

Is there a way of knowing which vaccine you get before you book it?

I was incredibly ill after both my AstraZeneca vaccines, far worse than I was with Covid earlier in the year. I also have an auto immune condition so my body often does strange things.

I don’t want to have the booster at all but if I have to have it I’d rather have Pfizer as I think it’s got marginally less chance of making me ill.

phishy · 21/12/2021 20:06

I think if you book it at a pharmacy, you could call and ask which one they have in stock.

Or maybe 119 will be able to advise which centres have Pfizer in your area.

Fendidntdrake · 21/12/2021 21:02

YANBU since it made you so ill.
I had moderna for all three, and no reaction. So wondering if it's mixing them that causes side effects.

I think you're right! I had zero side effects after my first two! And was very happy to keep getting boosted but I know if I had to have another Moderna booster I'd be super anxious and scared!

CatsArePeople · 21/12/2021 21:18

I'm assuming it may well end up being an annual thing, around the same time as the flu vaccine

There isn't a mass psychosis over flu jabs. I never took one personally and nobody every asked.

DSGR · 21/12/2021 21:23

The CovBoost study shows that having Pfizer or Moderna after AZ (ie mixing vaccines) greatly increase the number of antibodies you get.
I’ve had Covid and it was awful. It scared me. Happy to have vaccines.
Whitty has said we won’t be vaccinating every 3-6 months, it will settle down and we will only need an annual vaccine

DressingPafe · 21/12/2021 21:37

I’m not having this current booster. Chris Whitty said there will be some sort of vaccine in probably mid 2023 which should work against most variants and also better anti virals to treat covid.

I haven’t had covid at all, as far as I am aware. I know I could have been asymptomatic but if I was then I’m clearly fine. I did have the initial 2 vaccines but that’s me done until a more effective vaccine is produced. I’m not prepared to take booster after booster. I wfh, mix very little, have accepted no international travel for now. So I see no need.

Nanalisa60 · 21/12/2021 21:42

I had the MODERNA on Sunday morning, started to feel ill at 8pm felt really sorry for my self for a good 24 hours. I really don’t want another booster, but I expect will have to have one again next winter with the flu jab. But I will not be having one in the summer .

BigHuff · 21/12/2021 21:45

@Surmeslevres

The boosters will keep on coming for as long as people will keep having them. The pharmaceutical companies are making billions out of this.
I read in the New Statesman today that the Pfizer vaccine is the best-selling pharmaceutical product in history.

"[Sales are expected] to hit $36 billion in 2021 alone."

ToooutThere · 21/12/2021 21:56

It really shouldn't have to come down to this... weighing up your options betwen taking a jab with such unusual (and often scary) side effects vs having the illness itself...
As my retired surgeon uncle says, vaccinations should not have to have these many side effects. Interestingly, there are more and more medical professionals openly making very similar remarks.
What is it though that makes us feel so rotten? It cannot be the frequency of taking these jabs.... after all, our children take many of the same jabs on a monthly basis when they're babies, I'd hate to think we're making them feel the same way.

I had covid last spring and got through it unscathed but I still get every vaccine I’m called for.

What I’ve seen is that this virus can kill randomly and unexpectedly. I can’t assume that I’ll survive every bout of covid unscathed.

virtuallyanass · 21/12/2021 23:13

@Cosmois

I had covid twice and it wasn't that bad, the after effects of the jab were much worst even though I had covid first! So for me, I won't be having anymore jabs.
@Cosmois me too, Pfizer booster was like having covid again for 48 hours. My actual covid infection only felt bad for 36 hours. My first two jabs were AZ, but still caught covid.
Furries · 22/12/2021 03:29

@Nidan2Sandan

I was very unwell after my first AZ, but fine after my second.

My booster was Pfizer and honestly I felt seriously unwell, had to take time off work which really annoyed me as I'm very busy and couldn't get out of bed for 3 days.

Incidentally, I had covid before vaccines were even a thing and was fine! Sore throat, very tired but still managed to work.

So I said that I wouldn't have any more boosters after this as I'm not willing to purposefully make myself poorly. But the truth is, I probably would have another one if it was a yearly thing. I WONT have one every few months though as I cant keep taking time off work!

Am assuming you were WFH if you were positive for Covid?
Furries · 22/12/2021 03:35

@SmellyOldPartridgeinaPearTree

Haha yes *@NeverDropYourMoonCup* I was terrified of needles before I got pregnant and developed gestational diabetes treated with insulin and vitamin b12 deficiency. I was getting needles in me left right and centre and now I'm so good at relaxing during jabs I barely felt my covid vaccinations.
Well done, it’s not easy getting used to needles when you don’t like them. Covid jabs have been a walk in the park compared to a B12 jab - that thick substance is not pleasant to have injected into your muscle!
StruggleStreet · 22/12/2021 03:53

Just to balance out the thread - I had Moderna booster two days ago and felt fine, slightly headachey the next day and a sore arm for a couple of days but nothing massively noticeable. Same for first and second jabs (Pfizer).
DH on the other hand has had covid this week and has felt horrendous and spent lots of the week lying under a blanket shivering.

Sorry to those on this thread who have had bad reactions though.

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 22/12/2021 06:07

I had a Moderna booster last week (after 2 Astra Zeneca) and felt bloody awful for a day. But it’s a good awful, it means my shonky immune system is doing what’s it’s meant to do.

The Spikevax vaccine leaflet I received named all the flu-like symptoms as ‘Very common, 1 in 10 people get them’ so an acceptable thing, but if you passed out twice I’d notify them through the Yellow Card scheme.

With regard to more boosters, it means I can keep my family safer, then bring it on. A day feeling crap is well worth it.

Dottybackorcid · 22/12/2021 06:31

First two jabs were AZ the first I was really I'll for two days the second just a sore arm. Booster was Pfizer I was tired day after that was it. My DP had his on same day and was I'll for two days.

Our bodies all act differently every time, so saying you would rather have COVID is a bit odd because you don't know how you will react to each strain every time.

So in total over the last 8 months I have spent 1 hour getting 3 jabs. People who claim their sick of getting jabs need to seriously grow up and stop with the hyperbole. If it has serious effects sure it will knock your confidence but for others it's pathetic.

Every jab you have trains your body's response and improves it. The virus is constantly evolving and your immune system needs to learn also. It's akin to saying I have had one driving lesson I don't need more 🤣.

It's a free upgrade to your body.
