To not want ANOTHER booster?

PinkiePonk · 21/12/2021 15:53

So I've had a pretty terrible reaction to the booster (MODERNA). Up all night throwing up, couldn't move, passed out twice, thought I was dying kinda thing.

AIBU to not want any more boosters?

Why is it we were meant to have the same brand for the first 2 vacs but folk are getting given random booster brands?

Snuggleworm · 21/12/2021 16:52

I had the Pfizer booster last Friday and have been feeling like crap ever since. I have really sore gland pain under my arm and my glands in my groin are sore too. Have no energy and slightly headachey. Shuld I report this somewhere?

diddl · 21/12/2021 16:54

@Pedalpushers

I had pfizer for my original jabs and moderna for the booster - it's definitely hit me harder than pfizer did, anecdotally a lot of people seem to be saying the same about Moderna specifically.
Same here & I've also heard that about Moderna.

I slept on & off for most of the next day.

The only boosters are Pfizer and Moderna, so you'll get one of those regardless of what you had initially.
mogsrus · 21/12/2021 16:57

We will probably be having these for a long time yet, so just knuckle down & accept,

garlictwist · 21/12/2021 17:02

I went to a walk in and they were offering Moderna for booster or Pfizer for first/second jabs. I begged with the woman to let me have Pfizer for my booster as that's what I'd had for my first injections and hadn't had any issues. I have heard really bad things about Moderna.

I felt quite bad doing this and like I was looking a gift horse in the mouth but luckily she let me.

scarvesandsocks · 21/12/2021 17:03

I hate being jabbed all the time too - I just feel like saying leave me alone.

I really hope they don't keep this all going. I know some pps have said it's not as bad as getting Covid. But having a jab every 3 to 6 months seems really extreme, especially if you're also getting the flu jab as well.

tttigress · 21/12/2021 17:05

We should take bets on when the 4th jab will be available!

The issue I have with bringing many people's 3rd jabs forward, is they will now have to have a 4th jab faster.

PraiseTheSunshine · 21/12/2021 17:05

I felt so unwell after my booster. My first 2 vaccines were Pfizer and the only side effects I had were a sore arm and feeling a bit tired the next day. My booster was Moderna and I had a terrible migraine afterwards as well as vomiting, cold sweats and my heart was pounding so much it kept waking me up through the night. I would have another booster if necessary but it would make me a bit anxious if it was Moderna again.

pickingdaisies · 21/12/2021 17:06

Overall immunity is really good with moderna booster. I didn't like the side effects, and I don't want to go through it again, but I will if asked to. It looks like Omicron might not be so bad individually, but it could flatten the NHS. People are already having operations postponed.
And the next variant that comes along could be really nasty.

OldaRailer · 21/12/2021 17:07

Definitely report the reaction.
I had Moderna and just had a sore arm and tired for a couple of days.
After First AZ I had a horrible time but not to throwing up level.
Let's hope this is the last big wave.

Surmeslevres · 21/12/2021 17:10

The boosters will keep on coming for as long as people will keep having them. The pharmaceutical companies are making billions out of this.

IncessantNameChanger · 21/12/2021 17:12

I'm not going to get a booster every three months either. If I get covid before my booster I wont be getting my booster either.

I think if your one of the very few who get horrible side effects then that's a valid choice really. Most people dont get bad side effects but that no comfort of your the one in x thousands of thousands who do.

I rather just a booster pre winter each year.

RidingMyBike · 21/12/2021 17:15

I've now had a booster (Pfizer) after two AZs so three jabs in about nine months. I was diabetic whilst pregnant so that meant sticking a needle in myself at least three times per day!

First jab and booster knocked the stuffing out of me - two days in bed with first, a morning for booster followed by several days of tiredness and feeling a bit out of it. But I timed it so it didn't affect work and DH was at home for DD.

Still better than chancing Covid, which may or may not be mild. DH is CEV so anything I can do to protect him too.

I had my flu jab late because they'd run out of stock, so finally tracked down a pharmacy with doses recently.

Pharmacist getting the injection ready 'Are you OK with inject-ah'

I'd already shrugged off the sleeve from my hoodie and pulled my t-shirt sleeve up to give her access to my deltoid. And probably slumped a little to relax it a little more. It's what you learn to do after years of self injections including before the standard issue of pen injectors, im injections, intra articular injections, contrast scans, other vaccinations and so, so many blood tests.

'I get this body language from Diabetics all the time'

After a while, you just get, if not used to it (although that's a possible - it's a remarkable appointment where I'm not stabbed at least once in some manner), resigned to the inevitability.

I wouldn't choose it as a hobby, but when you need them (which more people do now this virus is around), it stops being quite so bothersome and is just a given.

Exactly the same as you! In terms of which vaccines and side effects. I'd be so scared to get Moderna again!

@Loyaultemelie

I had Pfizer for the original 2 but the Moderna booster really hit me hard I was throwing up and very dizzy for 48 hours
Same!

Apparently the Moderna booster is really extremely effective against omicron though so there is that!

PinkiePonk · 21/12/2021 17:20

@steff13

Nope not had Moderna before - could that be why my side effects were so bad?

I'm in the US, but when I scheduled my booster they told me it had to be the same manufacturer as my original vaccinations.

That's interesting!
OP posts:
cansu · 21/12/2021 17:20

It seems to be very random. I felt pretty rough with my pfizer vaccines and had much less issues with the moderna booster.

GirlOnPfizer · 21/12/2021 17:20

Moderna is at once the most powerful and effective vaccine AND/ HENCE the one likely to provoke a strong side effect. I am a bit terrified of strong side effects so chose to attend a Pfizer clinic. If you do need another booster, you might do likewise.

I'm in the UK and was told it was good to have a mix Confused not that I had a choice

I had Astra Zeneca for the two vaccinations and Pfizer for the booster.

SmellyOldPartridgeinaPearTree · 21/12/2021 17:21

Haha yes @NeverDropYourMoonCup I was terrified of needles before I got pregnant and developed gestational diabetes treated with insulin and vitamin b12 deficiency. I was getting needles in me left right and centre and now I'm so good at relaxing during jabs I barely felt my covid vaccinations.

I didn't have a choice where to get it, it gave me one option and it was the same place I had vaccine 1&2 (both Pfizer) 🤷🏻‍♀️
