To not want ANOTHER booster?

121 replies

PinkiePonk · 21/12/2021 15:53

So I've had a pretty terrible reaction to the booster (MODERNA). Up all night throwing up, couldn't move, passed out twice, thought I was dying kinda thing.

AIBU to not want any more boosters?

They should offer paid leave the day after you have your vaccine. I just had Moderna yesterday and I couldn't sleep all night. I'm dosed up on co-codramol and ibuprofen.

I dont want anymore boosters.

OldaRailer · 21/12/2021 17:24

I had the bad reaction to first AZ but then very little to that second dose. People who had a reaction to Pfizer seemed the same.
I've not heard anyone say they had two bad ones in a row.

Onegingerhead · 21/12/2021 17:24

I’ve had horrible side effects to my second Pfizer jab (November) and I will not be having any boosters.
Checked my antibody levels, it’s sky high.

OldaRailer · 21/12/2021 17:25

Before now. Sorry to hear that Oneginger.

@Laiste

Why is it we were meant to have the same brand for the first 2 vacs but folk are getting given random booster brands?
Do you mean something in addition to the research that says which boosters are most effective?
LegoPandemic · 21/12/2021 17:30

YABU
We should all be ok with an injection every 3 months and a day in bed if the alternative is restrictions on our lives.

User135644 · 21/12/2021 17:31

Is it a bad thing if you have a few common side effects from a vaccine (assuming they pass fairly quickly?). Tends to show its worked.

I won't be having it every few months though. Once a year in tandem with a flu jab, yeah.

I've always booked mine at the weekend when i'll be off the next day.
AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 21/12/2021 17:32

Are you in England @PinkiePonk?
Is there somewhere with only one jab place? There are loads near where I live, where I work and where my family live. You can't move for pop up booster places Smile

CallMeNutribullet · 21/12/2021 17:33

I won't be getting another booster for at least 12 months. If they're asking us to get another in 6 months that will be 4 jabs in 14 months and I feel like that's a sign this is not an effective vaccine

Yes I am! When I clicked the link to book it only offered one site to go for it...

@tttigress

We should take bets on when the 4th jab will be available!

The issue I have with bringing many people's 3rd jabs forward, is they will now have to have a 4th jab faster.

If you are critically vulnerable, then the third jab was a third primary and the 3month booster will be a fourth jab - they'll be falling due in the next few weeks.

The JCVI will need to make recommendations on who gets further boosters and when. As covid tends to drop back in the summer, then perhaps it will become an annual late autumn shot for most people, and twice a year for the critically vulnerable group?

But of course new variants which either a) escape the vaccine even further or b) emerge off season meaning a summer spike looks likely, might mean plans all have to change on short notice again.

PieMistee · 21/12/2021 17:38

Its tough but nothing made me feel as terrible as covid did. Still recovering 18 months later.

Jobseeker19 · 21/12/2021 17:42

I couldn't get a Friday or weekend appointment.

Svara · 21/12/2021 17:43

@Prescottdanni123

Have you had the Moderna before?

While the sdie effects are unpleasant, vaccines are important in training your immune system to fight covid. The more boosters you have, the better trained your immune system is to recognise various strains of covid. Getting covid itself will be worse then any side effects.

For most people, getting Covid would not be worse than the side effects the OP experienced. I had it unjabbed and was not unwell enough that I would have called in sick for a single day before 2020
amylou8 · 21/12/2021 17:49

I like to travel, so will have no choice but to follow the schedule dictated. They'll be another round at Easter I expect, once they tweak it for variants. Had my Moderna booster this morning, was feeling fine until I read up the post 😂

Is this satire? I can't tell anymore.
AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 21/12/2021 17:51

@PinkiePonk I dont what you mean by the link to book, where I am you just book yourself either by the NHS site or the swiftqueue or go to any of the walk in places, pharmacies etc. On my local Facebook everyday the places post asking people to turn up or there are Mobile places in town centres.

Maybe that's unusual, I guess I shouldn't assume everywhere is the same, the areas around me could be unusual I suppose

Abraxan · 21/12/2021 17:52

I had an awful reaction to the flu vaccine a few years back, though fortunately nothing like yours. I still have an annual jab though as the last flu I had turned to ones I is and I was really poorly got a long time. I will have covid boosters too as I was ill with covid and ended up needing hospital admission and long term medication as a result.

Your reaction sounds dreadful. You need to report it and probably be seen by a doctor if at all,possible. That kind of reaction really isn't part of the normal reaction list. Please call your gp to discuss it and be checked over.

Abraxan · 21/12/2021 17:53

@steff13

Nope not had Moderna before - could that be why my side effects were so bad?

I'm in the US, but when I scheduled my booster they told me it had to be the same manufacturer as my original vaccinations.

In England it doesn't have to be the same one. The booster is either Moderna or Pfizer. Most people I'll have no reaction fortunate;y, bar maybe a sore arm.
Abraxan · 21/12/2021 17:55

@CatsArePeople

I wonder how many boosters it would take MN crowd to say enough is enough
I'm assuming it may well end up being an annual thing, around the same time as the flu vaccine, in order to reduce the risk of serious illness over the winter months when the nhs is at most chance of being overwhelmed each year.

I have an annual flu vaccine and will be happy to have an annual covid one.

I can't see it being more frequent than that for the whole population, though maybe twice a year for the most vulnerable if there were new strains occurring.

@AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair
i mean:
When we were all having our #1 and #2 jabs i thought the advice/intention was to give the same for 1 and 2. So both AZ or both Pzr.

So ... why are we not being given ''matching'' boosters?

I'm no scientist, my question is as basic as it sounds Grin

Also - why is it only Pzr or Moderna offered as boosters?
My 1 and 2 were AZ. This thread is making me nervous about having Moderna as a booster. I'm prob not the only one!

ferretface · 21/12/2021 18:00

I'm triple Pfizered and the second and third doses gave me strong reactions, I'd have it again but I'd plan my week expecting to have a day and a half being unable to do anything and a couple of days longer with a painful swollen armpit!

Senso21 · 21/12/2021 18:07

I’m CEV and I don’t want another one!
The goal posts are constantly being moved and I’m just not comfortable with this ‘just one more’ road we’re heading down!

TerraNovaTwo · 21/12/2021 18:11

After I've had my booster I refuse to get any more jabs for at least 12 months.
