Has the booster impacted your period?

IKnowAPlace · 19/12/2021 22:33

I had it on Wednesday and my period has arrived two days early.

I'm usually regular as clockwork but after my second jab in July I ran a couple of days late. Periods have been a bit lighter and longer since.

None of these things are problematic to me, just a bit odd.

I'm watching this with interest as I had my booster yesterday. My periods went haywire after my first 2 jabs, and I ended up not having one for 4 months! I started again in October and it's back to normal now, but will see if the booster makes an impact.

I was like clockwork before as well, the doctor told me stress for the lack of period but I think it's too much of a coincidence!

pinklillie · 20/12/2021 08:30

Yes my period has just arrived two days early too. I also had it arrive early 5 days and 2 days after the vaccines too

HollywoodTease · 20/12/2021 09:10

Kind of, in that 2 days after my booster I had a period. Only I'm 57, post-menopausal and my last period was in early 2018.

Currently on the 2-week gynae pathway for further investigation.

Freddiefox · 20/12/2021 09:16

Yea cx my period is early and heavy

Beachbabe1 · 20/12/2021 09:19

The worrying thing is...does it affect a woman's cycle/fertility? I had a very late period with both my vaccines. Heard lots of woman saying the same.

I’m 58, 6 years post menopause and have had a period after each jab this year. Been through the 2 week urgent referral process as post menopausal bleeding must be investigated but NAD / NFA. My menopause specialist told me that she’s had loads of her patients say the same thing, which suggests there’s something in it as we’re all post menopause so it’s nothing to do with stress or any of the other spurious reasons younger women are being fobbed off with. I’m very reluctant to have another jab.
Abraxan · 20/12/2021 09:29

No. None of the vaccines have. I have had 2 Pfizer and one Moderna. Dd had all Pfizer and no changes.

Covid infection last year appeared to change them for a while (previous viruses sometimes have too). I do have messed up periods though - but that is perimenopause,

rhowton · 20/12/2021 09:31

I had AZ for my originals and it messed them up both times. I was late and heavy. I've just had Pfizer for my booster and my period arrived on time and hasn't been any heavier so far.

oldymoudlygaribaldi · 20/12/2021 09:53

Yes. First AZ - period 2 weeks early. Then cycle back to normal. 2nd AZ didn’t seem to affect periods at all. Booster three weeks ago (coincidentally same day as period started), and within a week started to get symptoms of haywire hormones. Within a couple of weeks my boobs were like I was pregnant (not a chance), at totally the wrong time of my cycle. I’m 50, peri-menopausal but still extremely regular, and these are the only times I’ve had such peculiar cycles. Things seem to have settled down more in the last week, back to the kind of estrogen-deprived body I’m used to!

Littleguggi · 20/12/2021 13:37

Yes, since having had the vaccines and booster I find my periods are irregular and lighter. The period after my booster was so painful, never have painful periods before, I had cramps for the whole week.

picklespark · 20/12/2021 13:49

I think it’s affected mine. Since I had the second dose in May my period has been moving back by 2-3 days each month, now the window is less than 3 weeks which is driving me potty. They’ve also become much heavier. Since the booster a month ago I had a really long period (like 8 days) and very heavy.

cannaethink · 20/12/2021 14:08

My periods have been all over the place since the first two jabs (moderna). I bled for a full month after the second jab. Now it’s more like have a proper period then spot for two weeks then have another period. It’s rubbish! It’s putting me right off a booster.

perfectpanda · 20/12/2021 14:14

I had an early period after the first jab. Interestingly I had covid 2 weeks ago and started to bleed on day 5 - which was mid cycle - and i haven't stopped since . I am 49 so gp just said to check hormones blood test and was very dismissive when I suggested covid might have something to do with it.

GnomeyGnome · 20/12/2021 15:31

Yes, bled 2 days after but for only 1 day and now 3 weeks later bleeding heavily and on day 6.

IKnowAPlace · 20/12/2021 23:37

I was really hoping it was just me...

It’s really important to report any potential effects after the vaccines and boosters, even if you’re not sure they’re related, so the incidence can be recorded and causality established. This is so important for patient safety and development of safe vaccines.

Anyone can report their symptoms, it doesn’t have to be a nurse or doctor.

Not the booster as I am yet to have it but I haven't had a period since the second dose which for me is odd. I've been on the depo injection a long time and they've never stopped until I had the second jab in July

Laufeythejust · 21/12/2021 00:23

Yes, a few days early and I normally suffer from really bad period pains (I take prescription painkillers at the first sign or else I am sick from the pain). This time no pain whatsoever but really heavy. I wish they’d stay this way to be honest!

I'm nearly 60, five years since my last period, been on HRT for 3 years with no bleeding My periods (including cramping) started a couple of weeks after my 2nd jab. I have reported via the yellow card website, and I have had my booster after a lot of thought. Went down the 2-week pathway to be told by the (male) consultant that I'd either have to request the same tests every time I had a period (bastard things are regular as clockwork atm) or change to a different HRT that is designed to trigger periods. I don't want periods and cramping and all the rest of it, so am getting a 2nd opinion (i.e. going private)
RightsHoardingRaptor · 21/12/2021 01:00

My booster didn't but my first two did. It arrived very early and very heavy. AZ first 2, Moderna booster.

GeidiPrimes · 21/12/2021 01:24

@GetYourVaccine

Fed up of reading the anti vaxxers again. We know that the vaccine is safe and has no side effects other than perhaps a little pain from the needle so stop it. Even if it did impact fertility, I know I would sooner that than have long covid and we must remember the most important reason to have the vaccine. We must protect the NHS , missed periods are a small price to pay to protect the vulnerable and keep the hospitals open.
Antivaxxers, wtf? Some of these responses are from long-time posters on MN.

Also - women should stop selfishly worrying about their own fertility for the greater good? You sound like a bit of a despot.

These vaccines are causing injury and death, surely people have a right to discuss this? In a democracy?

Dapper username btw Grin

StrangeAddiction · 21/12/2021 01:56

I'd say yes my period has been affected.

I had AZ as first and second jabs then Moderna booster 17th November. I usually have a period for 5 days but last week I noticed very watery blood when I wiped and though my period was going to start any day. That lasted a couple of days which is unusual, then on 13th December I got my usual neck ache and migraine and the red tide of doom arrived...and it's still here 9 days later and not looking like it's going to finish any time soon Hmm

HeyDuddy · 21/12/2021 01:58

No, Pfizer booster did not. I’m clockwork 29 days and had booster just before ovulation. Original AZ jabs shortened my cycle to 23 days both times.

Wednesdayafternoon · 21/12/2021 01:59

I started my period on Monday and had my jab in Wednesday. By Wednesday my period was almost gone but then returned in day Friday. I feel like I've probably got around another day left! So like with my initial vaccine, it seems to have drawn out the duration of my period. Last time I got some mod cycle bleeding aswell but it is too early to say just yet!

Hope you're ok op ♥️
