Has the booster impacted your period?

I had it on Wednesday and my period has arrived two days early.

I'm usually regular as clockwork but after my second jab in July I ran a couple of days late. Periods have been a bit lighter and longer since.

None of these things are problematic to me, just a bit odd.

Forgot to add that I've reported it to MHRA seeing as though it seems not enough people (approx 30,000) have reported it for it to be considered a problem. So god knows how many others haven't bothered reporting as I know I would have usually.

Atmywitsend29 · 21/12/2021 02:28

Not that I noticed.
But different things can affect every womans periods differently, doesn't take much more than a stiff breeze on a Wednesday to affect mine.
Any vaccine has potential to affect your cycle, as does any virus, infection, stress, sex, depression, the list goes on.

SusannaQueen · 21/12/2021 02:45

The first AZ dose started my periods again when I thought they'd stopped for good. Other issues too. But no bleed with my Pfizer booster.

MimiDaisy11 · 21/12/2021 05:44

I’m curious about this as had read about it (from non anti vac sources). I’m breastfeeding and had the vaccines after birth of my son. So I haven’t had a period since as would be expected so I can’t tell if there would have been change to periods. It does seem to be temporary though.

MauisLeftNipple · 21/12/2021 05:53

Nope (2x AZ then Pfizer booster recently).

Phillipa12 · 21/12/2021 05:54

I'm 46 and in peri menopause and have had 3 periods in 14 months. All of them within 72 hrs of my covid jabs.

msc6199 · 21/12/2021 05:56

My cycles haven't been the same since having my covid vaccines. Sometimes early, sometimes late, sometimes really heavy and painful and other months there's barely anything. I used to be like clockwork!

Callcat · 21/12/2021 06:02

Mine are fucked up Ince the vaccines. Random bleeding, missed periods, light periods, massive painful flooding periods. Pre vaccines my periods were light, short and like clockwork. It's the reason I'm put off the booster, it's been a PITA to deal with. That, and the fact my GP is insisting its not the vaccine, its anxiety. Gaslighting fucker.

YukoandHiro · 21/12/2021 06:03

Mine was about a week late. I had a mild panic that I was pregnant (I really don't want three children...) so I was very pleased when it arrived

toppocket · 21/12/2021 06:03

Boosted early November with period due the next week. Period still awol... pmt is now acute but with no idea when it's due.

Happy to still have had it but I think there should be more support for women with post vac period issues.

FasterthanBolt · 21/12/2021 06:05

Yes, but only with the Pfizer booster (I had AZ for the first two). A week early and the heaviest most horrific one ever. Stopped suddenly after 5 days though. And definitely NOT an antivaxxer but interested in side effects..

AnkylosaurusAches · 21/12/2021 06:06

@Beachbabe1 the flu jab and other vac has been known to affect cycles; as do some viruses. There's more evidence that natural cv actually affects ovaries as there are ace receptors there.

AnkylosaurusAches · 21/12/2021 06:15

I think the booster has brought one on early, I wasn't expecting it. And I was apprehensive too. But I've recently started hrt and that made me skip a period!

I'm perimenopausal and I do feel that symptoms worsened for a month or so after the first two jabs.

But not half as much as they did after a period of intense shock/ stress in September. Which led to the hrt.

A Gp friend said many women reported issues to him, including one of our friends when we were discussing it, but ultimately getting the jab was far more important. I know several people with long Covid and it's also now known that that's more likely in the peri meno age group for women.

Definitely yellow card it.

ontana · 21/12/2021 06:24

@GetYourVaccine
Fed up of reading the anti vaxxers again. We know that the vaccine is safe and has no side effects other than perhaps a little pain from the needle so stop it. Even if it did impact fertility, I know I would sooner that than have long covid and we must remember the most important reason to have the vaccine. We must protect the NHS , missed periods are a small price to pay to protect the vulnerable and keep the hospitals open.

Eh? So
Women can't simply describe their experiences without being denounced as anti vaxxers? By definition most women on this thread have had 3 jabs so hardly anti vaxxers!

Also it is not true that a sore arm is the only side effect ffs!!

Op I had booster on Fri and no period yet but after my second jab I had an odd v heavy period.

TunnelOfGoats · 21/12/2021 06:33

Mine was 3 days early after my recent moderna booster. It's unheard of for me to be early, usually about 30 days, not 25

Jinglebellsoncake · 21/12/2021 07:44

Yes.
After my 2nd vaccine (6 months ago) my periods have not returned to normal.
I bleed so frequently that I don't actually know when I'm having a period or if it's spotting.
Sometimes it will be 10 days between bleeds.
I'm also having night sweats.

GP said it was nothing to do with vaccine 😡

I went privately. Ultrasound normal. I am awaiting blood results

Shitenbollocks · 21/12/2021 07:48

Haven’t had my booster yet but having Covid really kicked mine up. My period came early and lasted 3 weeks. Am wondering what will happen this month with it x

Moolia · 21/12/2021 09:23

No effects after my two AZ but after having the Pfizer booster I had an extremely light period that lasted for 14 days.

Chaotica · 21/12/2021 09:34

Yes. Had my booster (moderna) last week and two days later my period started almost 2 weeks early. The same happened with my first AZ jab. I was sort of normal after the second jab except I had horrible cramping and stomach pain for 10 days with a fever. I don't know whether that was gynae related or another fun side effect. Periods have been regular except when I've had the vaccine.

I wish they'd put the early/late period on the side-effects list as it took me by surprise (even though it had happened to me before).

Iveputmyselfonthenaughtystep · 21/12/2021 11:53

Yup. 5 days late and lasting longer.
No bad thing on the first one as I was on a 23 day cycle which was absurd.

DappyApple · 21/12/2021 12:03

My period went awol for 5 months after the first jab came back with a vengeance at the end of august. Ie super heavy after being light and short previously in the months before vaccines.

This months period came two weeks after my last one and I’m now on day 9 (usually 5-6 days) and is showing no signs of stopping. I’m also experiencing light headedness and dizzy spells whilst having my period the last two months. Which I’ve never had before!

Not in any hurry to get the booster tbh!

ieatpies · 21/12/2021 12:13

I had a couple of light periods after my second dose then back to normal. Same with other vaccines a few years ago.

There is a well-established and important link between the immune system and hormones and if you have a look through a few of the studies on Google Scholar, a lot of women report some kind of temporary effect (although good luck finding the word "woman" in a study published in the US in the last couple of years)

BigWoollyJumpers · 21/12/2021 13:12

Yes! Period came 5 days early, and lasted longer than usual. I had the Pfizer booster.

Also had an "extra" early period after my first AZ. Came within two weeks of my last period. Although went back to the normal cycle the next month, and each one since.

So, I have had two episodes of period change out of three vaccinations.

Aspiringmatriarch · 21/12/2021 13:36

Moderna booster - period arrived several days early (on the day of the booster).

user463876887 · 21/12/2021 13:43

My periods have gone haywire since my AZ jabs- I didn't think it was related to the jabs but before then they were pretty consistent. I've had tests and also got hormones checked to see if I was going into menopause, even though at under 40 that was very unlikely. I'm supposed to have a hysteroscopy to determine the cause of mid period bleeding. Too scared and haven't had it done yet. But they've been all over the place, not even sure I'd call them periods because sometimes it's just a day or two of bleeding randomly.
