AIBU to think teachers shouldn't advertise anti vax messages at school?

TippedOverIceberg · 15/12/2021 14:04

I will preface this by saying I haven't seen the offending message in person and will hopefully see it tomorrow.

Had a call from DC2's friends mum in the course of which she mentioned that DC1's TA isn't vaccinated. When I queried how she knew, she said the TA has an anti-vax sticker on the back of her car. I find this a bit off, she parks the car on the school parking spaces and all the children walk past the row of parked cars on the way into school.

Am I totally unreasonable to think she shouldn't be allowed to promote anti-vax sentiment on school grounds? The children are old enough to be vaccinated.

YABU she should be allowed to promote anti-vax.
YANBU a school is not the place to promote anti-vax, even on a teacher's car.

Friend's mum is having a bit of a disagreement with the school over several other things (inc. handling of corona outbreak) at the moment so I'll be interested to see what it says!

So your friend already has a beef with the school, I'd be taking this with a very large pinch of salt.

Pensieve · 15/12/2021 23:00

Suspect your friends needs to be talking to the DfE or BoJo tbh. Schools follow guidance and the law unless they’re suggesting that’s not happened.

skintasabint · 15/12/2021 23:07

Jesus wept.

I'm so glad my children are no longer in school. The majority of school hate mums are vile.

It's her car, her opinion and as long as she isn't saying it go the children, who cares?

@AnnaPerenna

Anyway, antivaxxers will probably snuff it with covid so, evolution in action and all that. Bye :)
I hate to disappoint you but even the people who develop vaccines discuss how vaccines negatively interfere with evolution and survival of the fittest. Mutations have occurred in response to disease that are good for our species. So your example is not evolution in action.

We created polio pandemics when we improved our hygiene and lost our natural immunity link.
The people who have the best resistance to Covid-19 appear to be those with multiple exposure to other corona virus.

@howdiditcometothis666

That’s not just vaccines though is it? Most healthcare of the 20th and 21st century interferes with evolution. Take all the antibiotics away and see what happens.

Pumperthepumper · 15/12/2021 23:18

What does it say though?

Or, what did the woman who saw the TA’s sticker say that it said?

Indeed. No one is suggesting to take it all away but it is a conversation that scientists do have.
The gene that protects against HIV is another example and how long did it take to discover.

Mind you at the rate we're going the antibiotics will be ineffective soon. Antibiotic resistance is particularly growing in pneumonia . Maybe after all this people will take it seriously

Marianne1234 · 16/12/2021 00:06

Meh. You can’t dictate to teachers (or worse, the underpaid TAs) what they can and can’t display on their own cars, or what views they hold.

My inner dictator would happily abolish all pro-Scottish independence car stickers etc. But regular me recognises that people have a right to their opinion 🤷🏻‍♀️

PAFMO · 16/12/2021 05:29

@girlmom21

Would you be upset if a TA had a Christianity sticker on their car?
Christianity isn't contagious.

Though I suppose the empirical evidence for the existence of its head honcho is on about the same level as the "science" put forward by anti-vaxxers.

echt · 16/12/2021 05:38

So you've started a thread about something you don't actually know about.

Well done.

ChloeDecker · 16/12/2021 06:09

TA could be vaccinated and the car, a family car belonging to more than one person, for example. You have absolutely no idea and yet you still start a thread about it. I’ll never understand this.

Such awful gossipy mums

EarringsandLipstick · 16/12/2021 06:10

Because a vaccine doesn’t stop you passing it on,

Your ignorance is shocking OMG.

It absolutely does reduce, but not eliminate, transmission, and having the vaccine reduces the chance of severe infection.

Grida · 16/12/2021 06:13

I would struggle to get worked up about a bumper sticker. I would be more interested in whether she was a good teacher or TA. She will be having to self isolate a lot if she isn’t vaccinated though.

EarringsandLipstick · 16/12/2021 06:13

Saying you aren't going to get vaccinated because you are a fit 20 year old that has already had Covid makes you anti Vax these days.

Indeed it died. Because someone in that scenario is an anti-vaxxer.

That 'fit 20 yo' can still catch & transmit Covid, infecting others including possible vulnerable people.

Fit 20 yo, or indeed anyone, are not any kind of experts in public health.

EarringsandLipstick · 16/12/2021 06:15

*does, not died

User9529057 · 16/12/2021 06:58

So hearsay from someone's friends mum...

RedRobin100 · 16/12/2021 07:00

A TA is not a teacher

RedRobin100 · 16/12/2021 07:02

Also you’re being unreasonable, you don’t know what the sticker says

RedRobin100 · 16/12/2021 07:04

Also you sound a bit hysterical - like next you’ll be calling the mob to picket outside the TA’s classroom and have them run off the school
Premises

ldontWanna · 16/12/2021 07:07

It depends what the stickers says , if it actually does exist.

TippedOverIceberg · 16/12/2021 07:12

Unlike anyone else on Mumsnet.... I won't have time to post once I've walked past the car, so am garnering opinions in advance.

I know the car is hers, she told Dc when she got it.

A TA is not a teacher This one is.

It's her car, her opinion and as long as she isn't saying it go the children, who cares? But we don't know she isn't saying anything to the children, or wouldn't if they raised the issue. It seems to me it's a sign of poor judgment (having the sticker,) so we can't be sure she wouldn't also have poor judgement discussing the topic and not being impartial as I thought all teaching staff were supposed to be in school.

But what does the sticker say?!

You really should just find out befire manufacturing situations that probably haven't even happened. If you all hate this TA so much why on earth are u still attending thr school.

BTW she nor anyone else exist to validate your choices re vaccinations. For something that's meant to help get things a bit back to normal you all.seem to waste alot of time worrying about what everyone else is doing.

gathering opinions in advance of knowing if the alleged wrong-think crime has actually existed!Hmm
