"Pubs and restaurants could close in January under harsh new curbs"

Daily mail source but when things are leaked like this they're usually correct..
Why is this happening again... I fear it'll be another full lockdown, my partner works at a pub too, can't take anymore

OP posts:
xxxGirlCrushxxx · 14/12/2021 08:25

What will happen if no furlough this time round?

Maddymorphosis · 14/12/2021 08:26

I wish people calling for a full lockdown would think of people working in these industries

Should additional measures be put in place then it's unlikely there will be a ban on sitting outside, etc. Enterprising businesses will serve takeaway as they did before. But it's pointless speculating on what might happen in a few weeks. The figures from South Africa on omicron are encouraging - it has a greatly reduced death rate there in spite of increased transmissibility. Enforcing mask wearing, Covid passports and so on are a small price to pay until more is known about this and future variants.

rrhuth · 14/12/2021 08:27

By then it will be too late, tbh.

Always too late and therefore too harsh. Johnson is a useless PM, just useless.

Offered a choice between four weeks now and eight weeks in January, he would choose eight weeks in January Angry

People will lose their homes and businesses will go bankrupt.

On the other hand, with no closures, the NHS looks like it will be overwhelmed.

So shit either way. The money side could be helped by government. The health care side can't be.

Nicknacky · 14/12/2021 08:30

@rrhuth Why would you even want 4 weeks?

Is your household income affected by lockdowns?

Topseyt · 14/12/2021 08:30

I don't support another lockdown of any sort. I hope they don't do it.

rrhuth · 14/12/2021 08:31

Yes, my DH lost his job (hospitality!)

I do not WANT four weeks. I am just saying if Johnson had the choice between something bad now, or something twice as bad in a bit, he will always choose to wait. because he is a shit PM.

ElectraBlue · 14/12/2021 08:32

Then, I hope the government is ready for mass bankruptcy...

Nicknacky · 14/12/2021 08:35

@rrhuth Then you should be more empathetic. I’ve seen you on many, many threads pushing for lockdowns and I can’t understand it.

There should be no lockdowns at all.

ForbiddentoForbid · 14/12/2021 08:36

I don't think there's any point in more lockdowns if schools remain open.

And it would be terrible for schools to close again.

So I don't know the answer.

Several of my friends are teachers and each of the local schools are completely rampant with covid cases, with full classes having to isolate.

MiddleClassProblem · 14/12/2021 08:42

I think we are just heading for vaccine passports like other countries have, they’ll look particularly to countries in Europe that they deem reliable and will also hope it gets more people to vaccinate.

I have not 'pushed for' lockdowns. You misrepresent me entirely.

Lockdowns are for when you've failed. I want ventilation, masks, investment, clearer guidance.

I do have empathy. We are facing an overwhelmed NHS, with terrible consequences, this is not easy. Business closures or dead bodies, it is shit for all of us.

AlternativePerspective · 14/12/2021 08:46

YABU for not posting this hysteeriamongering shite in the COVID topic where it belongs. Angry

Redsquirrel5 · 14/12/2021 08:57

My sons have heard nothing about this. They work in hospitality. They have an option to close one hour earlier on the nights they are open late.

Of course they’ve heard nothing about it, that means nothing either way. No one in the particular industry/profession hears about new rules affecting it before it’s announced in a press conference. Teachers don’t have an inside track on school closures, GPs don’t hear weeks until advance about vaccine policy, and hospitality doesn’t find out beforehand about possible restrictions. The people delivering vaccines found out about Johnson’s plan to bring forward booster jabs at the same time as everyone else.

Wait middleclassproblem are there no vaccine passports used in the UK? I knew people were against them and masks but I thought you still had to prove you were vaccinated for indoor dining and stuff, is that not the case??
SickAndTiredAgain · 14/12/2021 09:03

*Weeks in advance

Thewiseoneincognito · 14/12/2021 09:03

By January it’ll be too late.

We should lockdown now if we want to really get a grip of Omicron. Christmas, cold weather and schools still open are the perfect storm to give it the extra push it really does not need.

Those worried about financial support, there is no way the government would impose restrictions without furlough, the devastation without would be too great.

SickAndTiredAgain · 14/12/2021 09:06

No, just large events. Can’t remember the exact rules but it’s something like nightclubs, indoor unseated venues with a few hundred people or more (500 maybe?), outdoor unseated with more than 4,000 people, anywhere with more than 10,000.

lonelyapple · 14/12/2021 09:06

Most of the people who want more lockdowns are boomers in nice, safe, public sector jobs who get paid whatever happens and whether they work or not.

Oh fucking hell sickandtiredagain I hadn't realised it was that ridiculous 😳
SickAndTiredAgain · 14/12/2021 09:20

@RuggerHug do you live somewhere where you need them for more things then? The rules I said above are only coming in from tomorrow.

@rrhuth you’re not wrong in your observations here.

Ok everyone, stand down, Redsquirrel’s sons have spoken!
