I have xmas drinks planned with a fee people next weekend. Wondering if should cancel or just all do a test beforehand?

Landlubber2019 · 12/12/2021 06:50

Personally I wouldn't be out drinking now, I really want a big family Christmas which is something I have missed and don't want to jeopardise it!

rrhuth · 12/12/2021 06:52

Yes, I've cancelled the less important stuff to try to ensure no positive tests over Christmas!

TipseyTorvey · 12/12/2021 06:54

I think everyone needs to decide for themselves what they want to do and weigh up risks for themselves. Personally I'd ask everyone to do a lft but I'd be going ahead. That said we're planning a very quiet Christmas so it wouldn't be a huge disaster if we had to isolate, if we were having people to stay and/or loads over for Xmas I might be more cautious.

Neurodiversitydoctor · 12/12/2021 06:58

Depends on your circumstances, unfortunately we are in the position of having 2 party mad teens and elderly(ish 76) MIL coming to stay over Xmas. Cera, cera.

Madmog · 12/12/2021 06:59

We haven't cancelled as we're sure our friends will do it for us, one shielded and the other extremely nervous about Covid. Haven' seen either inside since lockdown. We're surprised they agreed to meet for an Xmas meal.

Sera,Sera even

SnailandtheWail · 12/12/2021 07:01

No, I will not be cancelling. I will go to my planned Christmas drinks and thé Libertines gig I’ve got tickets for next weekend.

firef1y · 12/12/2021 07:03

Nope, went "out out" for the first time in 2 years last night. Christmas gig at a local venue and it didn't seem like many others had cancelled their Christmas plans either.

Youngatheart00 · 12/12/2021 07:04

Per another thread I started recently which is still active, I’ve regrettably cancelled my work drinks 😞 we will get together with friends locally but likely in an outdoor setting and will all be taking LTFs. I don’t want anything to risk Xmas now. I do feel for the hospitality venues but I think they’ve mostly had a very strong 6 months (judging by my local pubs anyway)

Mybalconyiscracking · 12/12/2021 07:05

Nope, I am not cancelling anything until they make me. It has been a miserable year, I am trying for a half decent Christmas.

cookiemonster2468 · 12/12/2021 07:22

Like people above I've cancelled a few "less important" things to try and make sure I'm OK for Christmas with family. Last year was awful and I don't want a repeat!

Mindymomo · 12/12/2021 07:27

DH is supposed to be going for a meal with over 40 men this Friday. He is vulnerable so I think he won’t go. He is still planning on going to watch football though, unless that’s cancelled as 6 players and 5 staff have got covid and his team, Tottenham have had to cancel 2 games so far.

EmmasMum12 · 12/12/2021 07:31

Dad is 91. Triple jabbed. But I just don't know what would/will happen when he gets covid and I don't want to be the carrier who gives it to him. So I've cancelled everything apart fromcoffee with singular friends outdoors and shopping (with mask on)

SpringheelJack · 12/12/2021 07:32

Other people have cancelled a few things we had lined up and I certainly don't blame them! But I'm going ahead with everything myself. If we end up infected over Christmas itself we'll just catch up.in the new year I guess. I'd be disappointed, but I'm not missing out on stuff now only to be hit with lockdown rules in 22nd or something!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 12/12/2021 07:39

I'm not cancelling anything.

Banani · 12/12/2021 07:43

Work Christmas meal/drink still going ahead next week. I’d rather not, but we’re a very small team and workplace politics means it’d be a big deal if I don’t go.

CheddarGorgeous · 12/12/2021 07:43

I cancelled my work Christmas lunch and a house party. Most people involved are only double jabbed and covid rates are higher than average.

I cancelled partly because I wasn't comfortable with the risk, partly because of perception and partly because I felt people generally weren't comfortable with mass socialising. I would be devastated if an event I was responsible ended up as a super spreader event just before Christmas.

We're doing some nice meet ups for walks of instead.

littlepeas · 12/12/2021 07:45

Nope - not cancelling anything.

Againstmachine · 12/12/2021 07:47

If you you don't go out or cancel, don't complain that these places may have closed in the next year.

MatildaIThink · 12/12/2021 07:59

My friends and family haven't cancelled anything and will not even if there is another lockdown. This has all gone on factor long now and the government now seem to be using restrictions to distract from their sleaze and corruption. We all test regularly, we are all vaccinated and we are all sensible, beyond that we are going to get on with our lives.

lonelySam · 12/12/2021 08:01

Nope, I am not canceling anything.

gettingolderandgrumpy · 12/12/2021 08:09

No absolutely not , we have to live with this virus imo . I have had all my jabs plus covid in the last few months . I’m not putting my life on hold indefinitely.

Noonoo8589 · 12/12/2021 08:15

Not cancelling anything

GrumpyLivesInMyHouseNow · 12/12/2021 08:18

Our Xmas work drinks and meal have been cancelled.

Workyticket · 12/12/2021 08:23

Nope. Big night out planned for next Friday and we're definitely still going. I've just booked a hotel room so we can really make the most of our overnight babysitter.

I've been stool in classrooms of 25+ students all year, all of them unmasked. I'm.going to the bloody pub with my work pals!
