I have xmas drinks planned with a fee people next weekend. Wondering if should cancel or just all do a test beforehand?

I have xmas drinks planned in the week (with two other people), and am still in two minds about it.

Pootle40 · 12/12/2021 13:11

Yes I'll be going unless the place is closed

Pootle40 · 12/12/2021 13:12

@Waxonwaxoff0

I'm not cancelling anything.
Precisely. I will annoyed if others fold like a cheap deck on cards!
Skyechasemarshalontheway · 12/12/2021 13:14

No we have non refundable theatre tickets and a trip away to the city for a few nights this week.

We have all either had covid recently or triple jabbed.

Fallagain · 12/12/2021 13:16

No but I don’t have any ‘out, out’ plans but I’m not cancelling any of the kids Christmas activities or soft play trip. We went swimming this morning and it was noticeably much quieter.

@InTheMiddle23

To those who have cancel nights out/drinks which you were perfectly happy with booking in the first place, please don't moan about the lack of staff when it comes to summer. It's got nothing to do with brexit, and everything to do with the lack of job security in the hospitality industry. We'll all just take up wfh or delivery jobs instead. Many have already done so.

Everyone just getting on with it, the 'no going back', thank you.

I don’t think you can blame people for not wanting to risk getting covid or being exposed to omicorn and and having to isolate for 10 days and miss Christmas.
sofakingcool · 12/12/2021 13:24

I'm not sure what to do, due to go to our works do next Friday - hotel party, so lots of mixing of different companies etc

I've just got over Covid, so part of me feels like I should be fine, but still not feeling 100% that I'm not still vulnerable to Omicron

InTheMiddle23 · 12/12/2021 13:32

Go to the party. The staff are there.

Shallwegoforawalk · 12/12/2021 13:34

I'm self employed so don't have a big works "do" night out. Im not sure how I would feel if I did. We have a quiet small family Christmas but I still wouldn't want to be unwell!

Am meeting up with friends for coffee during the day to see everyone before Christmas and it all feels very safe. I'm in Scotland so we have worn masks all the way through and the places we choose still have good spacing and ventilation. Im not a drinker so cramming into a sweaty pub has no appeal right now. I'm also over 50 so had my booster a few weeks ago.

It's difficult and everyone has to make their own choices but I do want to support the local independent cafes so they are still here next year too.

ScribblingPixie · 12/12/2021 13:35

I'm not cancelling anything but have nobody older/vulnerable to think of. Made a decision to do as much as possible from now on. Have had booster, which gives me a lot of confidence for my own health.

ancientgran · 12/12/2021 13:36

@Banani

Work Christmas meal/drink still going ahead next week. I’d rather not, but we’re a very small team and workplace politics means it’d be a big deal if I don’t go.
I'm feeling the same. DH is mid 70s and disabled and vulnerable so he doesn't really want me to go, he won't stop me or sulk or anything but I know he is worried. Work have laid on a nice meal for us all on Friday which should be perfect timing for being ill at Christmas if I pick it up.

I think I need to be honest with them tomorrow.

ancientgran · 12/12/2021 13:42

@prettymum

I didn't attend work meal out on Friday as went bowling two weekends ago with family of about 15 including arcade, first outing together after a while... half family down with covid including 2 babies and older brother in ITU... I'm not risking again till after it dies down.
I hope you brother recovers soon, it must be a terrible worry.

Didn't book anything for December in the first place, as didn't want to risk not being able to see family for Christmas and covid cases have been running high for several months now.

And also losing sense of smell/taste has limited appeal for me at this time of year personall.

dotsandco · 12/12/2021 14:32

@firef1y

Nope, went "out out" for the first time in 2 years last night. Christmas gig at a local venue and it didn't seem like many others had cancelled their Christmas plans either.

Same! Went 'out out' for a pretty big Christmas function last night...and it was crazy busy!! My friend and I said that it felt like a 'Last Great Hurrah', as everyone seemed hell bent on having the best time...it was almost manic in its extreme!

Honestly...whilst I was really looking forward to it, I didn't enjoy it and left early! Which made me sad...🤷‍♀️

dotsandco · 12/12/2021 14:35

(Just to clarify...the reason I left early was because we LITERALLY couldn't get anywhere near the bar! After 20 minutes of trying and being pushed and squashed, we gave up!)

gettingolderandgrumpy · 12/12/2021 14:41

Your surprised it’s busy 2 weekends to Christmas wow you really don’t get out much do you? .

Panacotta · 12/12/2021 15:57

@BoudecaBains

I work in ICU and we are definitely going ahead with ours but all the other wards and departments that i know of , have cancelled theirs.
Wow. What if you all go down with it @BoudecaBains ? Is there a back up team?

Thanks for the replies everyone. We have cancelled our drinks.

Why @Panacotta ?! Get out there & socialise before it’s forbidden again 🙄 I’m out with bells on this week, I’m cramming it all in cos I’m very worried they’ll shut everything again!

First up, dinner & a spa break with my husband tomorrow 🤩

Villanelle17 · 12/12/2021 16:48

No as I don't particularly like Christmas day anyway.

Don't want to have covid for crimbo OR be responsible for other people having it 🤷🏻‍♀️
OP posts:
Againstmachine · 12/12/2021 19:25

Well don't expect that place to be there next time when you want your Christmas drinks in future.

But that's Christmas in general full of one time a year people who go out and think they are supporting hospitality.

Onehotmess · 12/12/2021 19:25

Boris? Have you NC for this?

Keladrythesaviour · 12/12/2021 19:40

We had a drinks reception last night for 11, all tested before we came. Not 100% foolproof but meant we felt much more confident being in close proximity and hugging etc.

BoredtoTiers · 12/12/2021 19:42

I didn't plan anything immediately before Xmas as having the household isolate for 10 days over Xmas would be a massive PITA.

I've been invited to things, but not one of them is worth the risk of having to stay indoors over my booked holiday and the faff it would cause around Xmas day itself given I'm hosting family who are travelling for the occasion.

If I was going to someone else for Xmas or working through, I might've made different choices, but I don't want to either catch COVID or have to isolate during a long awaited holiday for the sake of e.g. drinks with colleagues. Other people's priorities may vary and that's fine, but seeing immediate family and getting out into the hills are mine.
