I have xmas drinks planned with a fee people next weekend. Wondering if should cancel or just all do a test beforehand?

OP posts:
gogohm · 12/12/2021 10:31

I did miss the village get together though as I didn't want to go, perfect excuse!

HariboMaroon · 12/12/2021 10:32

In a nutshell, absolutely fucking not.

Volterra · 12/12/2021 10:36

I have cancelled something for today as doing an early Christmas with Dad in 80s who had COPD. If my circumstances were different I would have still gone, very individual decision.

CrumpledCrumpet · 12/12/2021 10:59

I couldn’t make our work Christmas drinks, but probably would have opted out - If they’re still even going ahead. Our workplace is v strong on social responsibility (because of the field we are in) and I expect people will probably decide it’s the right thing to cancel because it’s “doing their bit”.

We’ll do the couple of things we have booked with family, but probably won’t book anything additional.

We’ll still do some mixing between households but won’t be organising anything that involves lots of people getting together.

It’s bloody depressing though - after last year I was really looking forward to a busy December.

We aren’t seeing family at Christmas for various reasons (some covid related, some just logistics and family dynamics) so we were going to go big on all the stuff leading up to Christmas instead. Ho-hum, maybe next year…

2pinkginsplease · 12/12/2021 11:03

We’ve cancelled a few nights out. Seeing my mum on Christmas Day is more important than a night out.

We are going to work and doing everything to minimise the risk, especially now Scotland have said that if anyone in your house tests positive everyone has to isolate for 10 days from that house.

InTheMiddle23 · 12/12/2021 11:15

To those who have cancel nights out/drinks which you were perfectly happy with booking in the first place, please don't moan about the lack of staff when it comes to summer. It's got nothing to do with brexit, and everything to do with the lack of job security in the hospitality industry. We'll all just take up wfh or delivery jobs instead. Many have already done so.

Everyone just getting on with it, the 'no going back', thank you.

Crunchymum · 12/12/2021 11:21

I've done most of my events now (have a few things in school next week..... yes they are still letting parents into my kids school for plays with a negative LFT Shock)

I do have dinner and drinks planned with 6 friends next weekend and whilst I won't cancel, I expect others will though so doubt the meal will go ahead.

Geminijust · 12/12/2021 11:23

I'm not but it seems quite a lot of people are. I went to our works meal last night. I was at the same restaurant just 3 weeks ago when it was absolutely packed. Although still fairly busy last night, there were noticeably quite a few empty tables which would normally be unheard of 2 Saturdays before Christmas.

ParkheadParadise · 12/12/2021 11:27

No, I'm not.
We were out last night with friends. I'm going to a Christmas party night on Tuesday.
Got a couple of things in the school with dd Nativity/ party.
Going out with my family next weekend and having drinks with the neighbours on Friday night.

Oakdene · 12/12/2021 11:28

Damage limitation here. I work across many schools.
LA Xmas gathering cancelled - too risky, health and perception.
I won't meet up with friends.

Even Christmas will be limited, probably just immediate family. No way can I put my elderly relatives at risk, they wouldn't survive COVID and I couldn't live with myself if I was the cause.

Theremoresefulday · 12/12/2021 11:29

I would cancel but because I don’t want to have to isolate over Christmas and miss seeing family.

Notonthestairs · 12/12/2021 11:31

Already had most of Christmas events. Another couple of evenings planned (pub). DH is the same.

paranoidnamechanger · 12/12/2021 11:32

Hell no! Life’s for living so I’ll be carrying on as normal.

Wakemeuuuup · 12/12/2021 11:41

I've just pulled out of a meal with friends next weekend. I'm booked to go to Ireland to spend time with family.

I'd we weren't going over I'd definitely go out as it wouldn't be the end of the world if we had to isolate

It must be a brutal time to be in hospitality.

Thing is, I fear you are damned if we do, damned if we don’t.

Everyone cancels - you’re screwed.

No-one cancels, Omicron rips through the population, many are sick/isolating. People cancel because they can’t attend due to illness/isolation. You can’t operate because too many in your staff/supply chain are sick. Public lose confidence in going out leading to longer term damage = you’re screwed.

Fruitygal · 12/12/2021 11:58

Planned so went to low key sit down events not discos and parties more meals and planned for last one would be last night. Chose a quiet restaurant went with 8 friends all laterally flowed and restaurant was nicely spaced out - had an amazing time! Now we hunker down so we can see family at Christmas.

Theremoresefulday · 12/12/2021 12:19

I’m not risking my family Christmas. I personally hadn’t booked anything,it was a work night out I can take or leave.

Brokenrecord3006 · 12/12/2021 12:30

We've got a few big parties and get togethers planned, not cancelling anything. Covid case rates are the lowest they've been for a while where I live.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 12/12/2021 12:32

My work has cancelled our Xmas drinks, but our 6th formers are still able to have their Christmas ball… and all staff encouraged to attend.!

Iamkmackered1979 · 12/12/2021 12:33

Not really got anything on but just 4 of us at Christmas anyway so no ‘family’ to worry about really both vaccinated have a private dinner booked with just family next weekend all test prior and I test for work too so as safe as I can make it

I promise I won't moan 😉
Maddymorphosis · 12/12/2021 12:44

If I had any to go to I would not be cancelling them.

People saying yes, will you be doing the same next December and the one after that when yet more variants emerge?

prettymum · 12/12/2021 12:51

I didn't attend work meal out on Friday as went bowling two weekends ago with family of about 15 including arcade, first outing together after a while... half family down with covid including 2 babies and older brother in ITU... I'm not risking again till after it dies down.

BoudecaBains · 12/12/2021 12:54

I work in ICU and we are definitely going ahead with ours but all the other wards and departments that i know of , have cancelled theirs.
