I have a child at school and another working in a public facing setting. Which he has done For the whole of Covid. I’m not cancelling.

MakkaPakkas · 12/12/2021 19:59

Nope. I'm not living my life in a shit, lonely restricted way because of a disease that will never go away. I've had my jabs and non pharmaceutical measures can fuck right off. If I get ill I'll stay inside and stop socialising.
Fair play to anyone who doesn't want to go out, but it's not for me anymore.

herecomesthsun · 12/12/2021 20:06

no plans at all for Xmas drinks socialising outside the home.

We are however still planning to go away to a cottage so we can see DMiL who is over 90, CEV and otherwise alone.

It's priorities.

Exactly a lot of lockdown lovers dont, understand there are people who live alone and need to go out for social contact.

Buzzinwithbez · 12/12/2021 20:19

Nope. Squeezing every drop of joy and connection from life.

AnneElliott · 12/12/2021 20:26

No I'm not cancelling anything. I plan to make the most of things this year.

DedalusBloom · 12/12/2021 20:41

Nope. Just been down the pub to meet friends. It was heaving. Got three things planned next week and 4 the week after. I'm triple jabbed and wear masks when needed.
I work in an area of retail that got shut down very heavily in the first lockdown and many businesses didn't recover. It has affected many of my friends and colleagues.
My part of London is still very heavily hit by the high street closures that happened as a result of covid. I'll be giving the hospitality section my full support.

Good on you many of the people on here still expect the restaurants pubs and bars to be there when they want to go next year despite not supporting them.

HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 12/12/2021 21:18

I wouldn't cancel.

At any moment a blonde that of a bloke can pop on our screens, hair freshly brushed with a toffee apple, spouting about just another small sacrifice bla bla.

Everyone should go enjoy their drinks.

AnotherOneWithNoGoodName · 16/12/2021 17:57

Work cancelled ours for us.
I'm unsociable anyway and didn't particularly want to go (although drag myself along each year!), so don't care. The company have given the venue the full price regardless (set menu), hopefully they can stay open as it's a lovely place.

No

Iamkmackered1979 · 19/12/2021 18:56

We did, was meant to be meeting a friend last night but she felt it was too much of a risk so close to Christmas and I’m a nurse working over Christmas (full household has to isolate here too) so safer to avoid crowded bars etc mum isn’t coming from down south so quiet Christmas for us this year

SmallestInTheClass · 19/12/2021 20:13

Yes. Mutually agreed with friends. We all want to prioritize Christmas and are happy reducing contact in the week before to do that.

Oblomov21 · 19/12/2021 20:30

Yes. And No.
Dh and I went to our respective works Christmas do's on Friday night. We cancelled visiting friends on Saturday. My mum cancelled lunch at ours on the day after Boxing Day.

Really hacked off now.

Grahamwright · 19/12/2021 20:31

Why do people who cancel get called ‘lockdown lovers’. Says a lot about some people doesn’t it?

I wouldn’t dream of calling those going ahead reckless, selfish anti vaxxers. But if you weigh up what you feel comfortable with and cancel, then you love lockdown?! No accounting for intelligence really.

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/12/2021 20:58

Generally I’ve been out and about all year, but have cancelled a few things last week and this, as have Christmas with elderly/vulnerable relatives so I think it’s the only sensible thing to do.

Againstmachine · 19/12/2021 21:37

Cancel or don't don't pretend you are high and mighty

Just don't expect the venue's to be there next year when you have neglected them.
