As stated in thread title if we stay in Plan B according to government scientists.

Does anyone recall how many died in the wave last winter to compare?

Most so probably 8 out of 10 which reflects vaccine rates. But is does suggest that we need a booster to be protected from Omicron.

Tillsforthrills · 13/12/2021 19:24

Many will have pre existing conditions but the impact of covid will finish them off so to speak, their immune system is weak from a pre existing condition but covid will impact them more.

But is does suggest that we need a booster to be protected from Omicron.

Do we though? Perhaps our immune system is strong enough by itself if Omicron is much weaker?

Reinfection more common with Omicron.

Shitty news of the day is that hospitalisations are up 30% in London on last week twitter.com/COVID19actuary/status/1470439096124325892

Itsnotover · 13/12/2021 21:20

Oh dear. So this is likely to get worse then if hospital admissions in London have already gone up by nearly a third.

Maskless · 14/12/2021 07:56

@Starcaller

What always gets me is when people talk about 'healthy individuals' or 'oh they had underlying conditions' as if their lives don't matter or as if those people had one foot in the grave already. My DM has an 'underlying condition' but is totally healthy day to day and has a lot of years left, hopefully. But due to the immunosuppressants she is on, Covid could indeed kill her. There are a huge number of people in this country who have 'underlying conditions' or other health issues but are nowhere near ready or expected to die in the imminent future. But their deaths seem to be excused as being irrelevant to us all.
Clearly you have massively understood what people mean when they cite people with underlying conditions!!!
Northsoutheastwest76 · 14/12/2021 08:06

OK enlighten us @Maskless.

Northsoutheastwest76 · 14/12/2021 08:07

Sorry was is supposed to be understood or misunderstood?
I read it as misunderstood but it says understood.

Northsoutheastwest76 · 14/12/2021 08:09

Interested as dh is also immunosupressed but lives a full life. Works full time etc etc. With normai
life expectancy
As yet unknown how much help vaccines were as never had COVID.

Doing the classic 'I have a friend who works in a major London hospital' - my friend said this week that they are back to full on, and expecting it to stay that way (or get worse) for the rest of the virus season. He's still hoping that if omicron does generally produce less severe disease, that the situation in the hospital will not worsen.

Yes, London hospital occupancy is up 30% because people just prefer to hang out there in the run up to Christmas Hmm
PrincessNutNuts · 14/12/2021 20:32

@OverTheRubicon That gave me a much needed chuckle. Grin
