Plan C any idea when this will happen?

The rumours of plan c must mean it's coming but any ideas when you think it will happen? This week or next?
Will Boris get someone else to announce it if he is off on paternity leave?

OP posts:

It's difficult to say given that it still looks like nothing to worry about to some Conservative MPs.

Previously it's usually been pretty last minute.

Case/hospitalisation numbers should be looking a bit surprising to even avid consumers of "it's so mild it's basically a vaccine" covid misinformation in about a week.

Definitely this side of Christmas I would have thought.

But I do tend to underestimate our government's willingness to gamble with our lives because they don't understand maths.

next week probably then lockdown new year

bumbleymummy · 11/12/2021 00:09

Oh stop. They can’t even justify plan b yet. Hmm

Silverswirl · 11/12/2021 00:14

@milly74

How can it be next week? They are only just justifying plan b next week?
MatildaIThink · 11/12/2021 00:17

Whenever the next scandle within the Conservative Party/government/Johnson residence leaks and they want something else to take up the headlines.

MatildaIThink · 11/12/2021 00:20

scandal for some reason I can't spell tonight!

murcimari · 11/12/2021 00:20

Sorry, you're all forgetting about Plan B Plus...

ElectraBlue · 11/12/2021 00:23

What plan? I think this useless Government has demonstrated that they are unable to put together or deliver any kind of sensible plan...

@Greyowl32... I think we all live in cuckoo land Wink

Sooner rather than later OP. We should not be taking risks with the unknown consequences of a new variant infecting large swathes of the population so quickly.

Ideally we need Plan D- the lockdown, this side of Christmas but BJ will no doubt drag his feet and wait until it’s far too late.

Are you aware that there is no longer any financial support system in place for either the employed or self-employed? I'm assuming you are also aware that you would need a lot of manpower to introduce the system again, hence why HMRC had to redeploy most of their staff to work on JRS and SEISS when it first started. As most non-phone based hmrc staff will no doubt be finishing for Christmas in the next week or so, how do you suppose people will get money if we go into full lockdown? Is Santa bringing it for them?
worriedatthemoment · 11/12/2021 01:07

Maybe just if and when its needed its a bit watch and wait really as if hospitalisation goes up hugely then more measures will be brought in.
No one knows exactly or can predict just yet with this new strain

Thewiseoneincognito · 11/12/2021 01:13

@Autumndays123 if this becomes a big problem fast then furlough will be back- otherwise the fall out will be immense.

Yes, cause we can just afford to keep putting people on furlough every few months. Absolutely no fall out from that Hmm

User378436 · 11/12/2021 04:56

Probably before Christmas, perhaps announced by Gove who will make some general comment about what he thinks, like he did about an hour exercise in the first lockdown which a lot on MN will think is law. There will be a lot of castigating on here for people doing whatever comment he has made.

wingingit33 · 11/12/2021 05:41

I hope sooner rather than later

"If anyone still thinks that the measures taken to tackle a virus is about health given there are the grand total of zero Omicron deaths so far, you must be living in cloud cuckoo land"

Bit early to conclude that. Omicron has probably been in SA for quite a few weeks but casesz haven't been flagged until we know what to look for. After all in 2020 we were told about the first corona virus in march when the first person who died from it in UK did so in January

We may know the stats on severity Vs delta / alpha / Wuhan strains in a few weeks but at this rate it will be too late.

Many commentators are positive bring out that even if the hospitalisation rate is half that of delta that buys 2 days of delay.

There is a lot of uncertainty about the size of the Christmas mixing admission spike currently and the problem is if the government wait for the data evidence etc it may be too late to do anything to stop it.

twosticksandanapple · 11/12/2021 06:34

My concern around the 'mildness' is the quality of data from S Africa. Previously they had vastly under reported mortality. The excess mortality growth could be due to other factors but until we know more it is sensible to be cautious.

TheScenicWay · 11/12/2021 06:37

@Greyowl32 I’m really concerned now. But what are we meant to do?

The data from South Africa isn't much use to us unfortunately, a far younger population, much lower vaccination rate, different health demographics, poor community data and reporting etc.

The UK will probably end up being the first large data source with high vaccination rates, high booster rates, against a much older and unhealthier population.

bumbleymummy · 11/12/2021 07:35

Omicron has probably been in SA for quite a few weeks but casesz haven't been flagged until we know what to look for.

A sharp steep rise in hospitalisations/deaths? It hasn’t happened yet despite the strain being detected there weeks ago, it being more contagious and cases rising over the last few weeks. Cases actually seem to be starting to slow/level off in some places now too. It looks like that may disappoint some people who seem to be quite excited about the idea of another lockdown/more restrictions/furlough.

Theunamedcat · 11/12/2021 07:44

We are not locking down again its ridiculous
