Is there a link between reaction to the vaccine and how bad you get the virus?

The question is really all in the title.

I've tried to Google but nothing came up so asking mumsnet... based on your experience if you reacted badly to the vaccine - how severe were your symptoms when you got the virus?

And the opposite, if you had no reaction to the vaccine how severe were your symptoms?

I'm double jabbed and just got a positive PCR result on Tuesday and want to see if there is a way to predict how this may play out.

Thanks

Zero side effects from Pfizer. Covid was moderate, I felt pretty shit for a couple weeks but nothing concerning. And people I know have def felt a lot worse! But I still felt grim!

Dottydoodoo · 08/12/2021 23:38

No side effects from Pfizer jabs one and two apart from a horribly achey arm. I had a headache the day after my booster but I had my flu jab at the same time so I can’t be sure which one if any caused it, but it only lasted for one day.

When I had covid (January 2021) it was fortunately very mild. I had a blocked but runny nose for a few days and felt headachey and tired, but nothing that I couldn’t have carried on through if it hadn’t been covid and the need to isolate.

I hope it is not too bad for you, and you get through the 10 days with sanity intact and not feeling too unwell Flowers

Quite bad reactions to both Astra Zeneca, shivers, achy arm, headache, only lasted a day, had to take myself to bed.

Prob quite rough with covid for a week, as bad as flu, 3 weeks later feel fine.

Nowthereistwo · 09/12/2021 04:51

Thanks all for your input. I hope you are all recovered fully now.

I'm getting lockdown flashbacks as our 2 dds are both off with covid (caught at school and shared with us), so we're all stuck in the house and the adults are trying to WFH.

I didn't have any reaction to the vaccines which I'm optimistically going to take as a positive.

My concern is that whenever I get a cold it goes to my chest and I end up with bronchitis. Luckily I spoke to a doctor yesterday and they have prescribed my a new blue inhaler already so it's here if I need it.

I had no reaction to the vaccines and Covid for me was mild.

vodkaredbullgirl · 09/12/2021 05:24

Not had covid vaccine both fine. Not looking forward to my booster Friday, heard too many felt worse after.

SinoohXaenaHide · 09/12/2021 05:28

DP had no reaction at all to AZ x2 doses or Pfizer booster but still caught covid about 3-4 weeks after the booster and was medium-poorly with it. Didn't need hospitalisation but was off work for a couple of weeks.

I had medium side effects from 2x moderna vaccine, especially the 2nd which had me feeling somewhat poorly for about a week, but I didn't catch covid off DP despite us not having any space to isolate from one another and sharing a bed throughout his illness. (I've not had a booster yet)

So my anecdata supports the theory that a bad vaccine reaction indicates a stromger immune response. But anecdotes don't actually create reliable data.

martim · 09/12/2021 05:58

I had no reaction to the vaccine, DH reacted badly. Both just had covid and both were poorly with pretty much identical severityZ

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 09/12/2021 06:25

Unconfirmed covid when it wasn't first here, loss of smell and taste, over whelming fatigue, headache gastric issues strange smell in nose and tingly.
In bed for two days with AZ like bad hangover achy etc.

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 09/12/2021 06:25

Tbh I've always believed that how badly you get it also depends on how much virus you get.

MiracleBaby2022 · 09/12/2021 06:26

My partner is a scientist in the industry. He said something along the lines of "the more of a reaction you have (to the vaccine) the better " - it just means your immune system is doing a proper job.

cliffdiver · 09/12/2021 06:28

I had awful reactions to both (Moderna) vaccines.

Very mild COVID (PCR confirmed) symptoms. Sore ear, slight fever (37.6), mild cough.

I would have been well enough to go to work with COVID, but not after the vaccines.

makingmiracles · 09/12/2021 06:35

Bad reaction to the az, lasted 10hrs, tired with the 2nd az, rough again with phizer booster. Rough with covid, 4 days in bed, still not 100% 2.5weeks on. Not as I’ll as when I had the flu yrs ago.

PearlAsylum · 09/12/2021 06:36

2X Pfizer, no reaction except painful arm.

Had Covid quite badly - but not hospital bad, so I'm thankful for my vaccines. Days 3 & 4 were the worst.

A fair few children in my class had Covid in the week or so before me, so my theory is I had multiple exposures to them and had a high viral load.

RockinHorseShit · 09/12/2021 06:37

No... at least not the actual virus itself

I had what seemed like very mild covid pre first lockdown. At that point people were dying only, so I wasn't convinced I actually had it until I had antibody test a few months later, especially as I'm CEV still quarantined etc as I'm not an arse

I had such a bad reaction to my first AZ that they switched to Pfizer for my second jab, way worse than covid

That said, covid left me with pancreatitis, which I'm still trying to shake off 2 years later & it has been a total bitch, so it was hardly mild after all

Ditto science friends & family of ours working with covid too

Yes, I was told the same by the doctor leading the vaccine trial I’m on.

Unwell = more antibodies.

LunaAzul · 09/12/2021 06:49

Had Pfizer both doses, am late 30s. First jab put me in bed for the whole day, flu like feeling. Second jab wiped me completely, twenty minutes after having the jab my whole arm was dead. Had a massive swelling in my armpit on the jab side. Was in bed for two days.

Caught Covid off DD in October. Felt like a head cold. No cough, sniffly, sneezey and headachey- worst bit was lack of smell and taste which lasted two weeks.

TheVampiresWife · 09/12/2021 07:00

I was absolutely floored with my first AZ. Went to bed early the night I had it feeling a bit more tired than usual, but woke at 2am with a fever and a nosebleed. Was really unwell for about five days. Was fine after the second (and the third, a few days ago).

When I caught Covid in August I was completely asymptomatic (I'm CEV too, so it was a a huge relief).

I had no side effects from my booster so you may be fine. All Pfizer for me. All had no negative affect effects.
lampygirl · 09/12/2021 12:36

Wiped out by AZ vaccine, Covid was a sniffle/tiredness and a change but not loss of sense of smell/taste for 5 or 6 days. CV as a T1 Diabetic.

Idontevenknow · 09/12/2021 12:53

No reaction to vaccine except sore arm.
No symptoms from covid

Tiny2018 · 09/12/2021 12:56

Really ill with both Pfizer vaccines, got Covid between the two, could barely move for two days.

Rade · 09/12/2021 13:03

I think the answers on here suggest zero link.
I had no reaction to any of my 3 vaccines but was hospitalised with covid after 2 jabs.

Givemeallthegin8 · 09/12/2021 13:04

No reaction bar a sore arm with both vaccines.
Currently on day 9 of Covid . Had every symptom under the sun except temperature! Day 3/4 were absolutely horrific, I honestly thought I would end up in hospital. Turned a corner day 5 and fine now apart from no taste or smell
