FFS I’ve got suspected omicron

Although nobody has actually told me personally - I only know because my contacts (including DH and DC) have been contacted by T&T and told.

Took test on Tuesday, positive result on Wednesday, T&T follow up today.

I have ruined a lot of people’s plans Sad

You're right, @Watapalava . Let's call off the vaccine drive, cancel all mask mandates and all snog under the mistletoe with gay abandon. After all, Covid's here to stay now, right?

ViceLikeBlip · 03/12/2021 20:16

@PatientZerooo

If I hadn’t done a test I would assume it was a heavy cold, yes. No loss of taste/smell yet. I did a quick LFT on Tuesday thinking to reassure myself it was a cold and a line showed up. Plus a positive PCR obvs. So my sample of 1 suggests (maybe) omicron is quite cold-y, so not so different to Delta.
My own sample of one (myself!) was that boring old common garden delta variant was just a very runny nose, sore throat, a bit shivery and unwell for 24hrs (double jabbed but no booster)

Maybe there's still hope that the full sequencing will come back as not omicron.... 🤞🏻🤞🏻(fingers crossed for your close contacts more than yourself really!)

@forinborin

100 percent it was around before it was said to be! I was ill dec 2019 and my kids were extremely poorly in Jan 2020 - at the time I said I had never experienced anything like it! There has been a really bad strain of flu circulating in that season, that the flu vaccines had spectacularly missed. Everyone who "had covid" in Dec 19 / Jan 20 likely had this flu, not covid.
Covid antibodies were found in blood samples of Italian cancer patients as early as September 2019!

I think the Op enjoying being a special kind of Covid case.

Literally no one cares at this point what kind of Covid anyone has. People feel a bit full of cold, regardless of vaccine status snd then get on with life a few days later.
Why the heck must it be “ so stressful” ?

LostForIdeas · 03/12/2021 21:32

Probably because for most people covid isn’t just like a bad cold?
I know too many people who have struggled for months afterwards.

herecomesthsun · 03/12/2021 21:37

I think the OP is entitled to discuss the experience of being one of the first people in the country with the new variant.

Why not?

Seems like a good reason for a thread to me.

And a good excuse for self indulgence of a chocolate or cake nature, if you feel up to that sort of thing.

Take care.

Well it is quite unusual, there aren't many people with the omricon at the moment, I certainly don't know of any where we are and we have the highest rates in the country. The guidance is also different. I doubt OP is enjoying it.

Eh? Quite literally for the vast vast majority of people covid is a cold, or is symptomless.

I’d say you were the exception then. The majority of people know people who gave tested positive but have been well again after a week.

Disagree. Different variants have had different symptoms. I for one appreciate hearing what OP's are.

I care.

If someone I've been in contact with gets Delta I can get on with my life, and with Christmas. If they get Omicron, I'm stuck in the house alone for ten days. And if that includes the 25th I'll be devastated.

Orchid876 · 03/12/2021 21:51

Well you would care if you were person with, or a close contact of, a suspected Omicron case and had to isolate for 10 days, as you wouldn't be getting on with life after a few days. Or can we presume from your rather flippant post that you'd be ignoring instructions from T&T because Covid is "just a cold" and we need to "live with it". It's attitudes like that which mean we're much more likely to be in lockdown again, not less.

peboh · 03/12/2021 21:52

I thought the isolations rules had just changed for covid in general? I didn't realise different variants had different rules?

herecomesthsun · 03/12/2021 21:54

See OP, you are educating people on this thread Flowers

Luckily the Omicron rules are being reviewed in 3 weeks (21st Dec). What’s the betting you’d be allowed to have Christmas with no symptoms. And frankly if you had symptoms over Christmas you’d be devastated anyway.

Orchid876 · 03/12/2021 21:56

Yep, different rules, for the moment at least. Although if cases skyrocket because of Omicron, I'm sure it's only a matter of time before the isolation rules for Omicron cases are the same for all positive cases. If hospitals are in danger of being overwhelmed again I'm sure it there'll be measures introduced to try and reduce all variant transmission.

Oh, I knew the rules had changed but I didn't realise it was for different variants. Thank you clarifying.

I have been desperate to get Covid for the last two years or at least be in contact with someone. I’ve worked full time, plus masses extra for all my colleagues that have been pinged, the entire time.

Despite working in a college full of unvaccinated, non mask wearing, non socially distanced teenagers I have failed to get so much as a day off. So yeah …a bit eyeroll about the drama over it all.

beentoldcomputersaysno · 03/12/2021 22:09

Hope you feel better soon. Don't feel guilty and it's good that you reported to T and T.

SawdustandHay · 03/12/2021 22:10

You’ll get over it. I thought I wouldn’t but I did.

Orchid876 · 03/12/2021 22:17

Same here @lightisnotwhite, I'm a secondary school teacher. We've been thrown under a bus. I still don't want to get Covid, and I don't want to isolate and miss work either. My students getting even further behind is good for noone.

tallduckandhandsome · 03/12/2021 22:17

I don’t really get the angst? You’ve got covid, same as the 10 million in the UK who had it, including me.

I hope you get well soon but it’s not the end of the world, and announcing you’ve got ‘omicron’ doesn’t make it special.

SawdustandHay · 03/12/2021 22:18

@SawdustandHay

You’ll get over it. I thought I wouldn’t but I did.
I mean causing people to self isolate, not omicron of course. Get well soon.
Orchid876 · 03/12/2021 22:23

And most of fucking all I don't want to do Teacher Assessed Grades again. So if it avoids exams being cancelled again, I'd rather we did all just care a bit more about Omicron than we have been currently caring about Delta please. Presumably noone actually wants schools to close again?
