Is your work Christmas party cancelled?

Asking just out of interest. I work now on two projects, and dipping in and out of a third - and all three companies have cancelled their Christmas parties now (moved to zoom / teams). What about yours?

I also worry about the effect on the hospitality sector - I think it was a major source of income for them during this period.

No, mine are currently still going ahead (both department one and larger company one).

HoldingTight · 02/12/2021 09:28

My DD's Christmas party is cancelled - very large company, masquerade ball type thing. My work's lunch isn't cancelled - very small practice. My DH's company haven't cancelled theirs yet but it's not til 17th so I wouldn't be surprised - large company, big marquee do with partners.

Mindymomo · 02/12/2021 09:29

DH meal out is still on, DS1 pub meal is still on, although not many going, DS2 is going for pub lunch, still on at the moment. DH was going to ask today, but I’ve told him to leave it for the moment.

If we cannot go to the restaurants that we normally do, they do takeaways, so will make sure still give them some income.

forinborin · 02/12/2021 09:31

Ah good to hear that not everyone is as pessimistic as here... and I used to hate work Christmas parties, but now that they are cancelled I want them back Grin

Yes, also true.

We aren't having one this year as we are a small team and a bit fractured at the moment with people off sick. One of the team is leaving and having a 'do' next week so we are just doing that instead, that's still going ahead.

DH is in charge of organising the Xmas do for his work and has just cancelled his not because of covid but because of a bereavement as one of his team tragically died last week.

NoseringGirl · 02/12/2021 09:34

Not yet and I work in public health! My team organised and booked it ourselves so we'll wait and see what happens and whether the big bosses start suggesting we cancel or not...

Marmite27 · 02/12/2021 09:34

Ours was in a meeting room at the office. It’s been moved to zoom, but the people going out for dinner afterwards are still doing so - afaik, I’m not one of them.

We had our tiny team dinner yesterday (5 people) and I have a dinner dance night on Saturday. They’re still going ahead.

Christingle was Monday night and school nativity is Wednesday so hopefully everything should still happen. Everything after that event wise is outdoors.

Harlequin1088 · 02/12/2021 09:35

Nope. My is still on. It's tomorrow night and my staff and I are really looking forward to it!🥰

DentalWorries · 02/12/2021 09:38

No ours is still on, 50 people in a private room in a bar next Friday. However, I did have an email from the company I booked it through asking whether we’d like to cancel or move it to next year instead so I’m assuming a lot of companies have done.

bumbleymummy · 02/12/2021 09:39

No.

TellySavalashairbrush · 02/12/2021 09:39

Sadly yes ! About 20 of us going to a local restaurant. We will all be taking lateral flow tests before we attend. I don't relish the idea of an evening of forced hilarity with a boss I don't really like and have lost all respect for, due to her treatment of staff. However, it is noted if you don't go, so I am stuck.

Porfre · 02/12/2021 09:39

Mine is tomorrow night at a posh hotel So hoping we can sneak it in before any further restrictions

Justcannotbearsed · 02/12/2021 09:43

We are doing ours (small team) after Christmas as no one wants to mess up their Christmas plans with having to isolate.

DH's firm has hired a room in a pub - so basically they all sit together at work and then all sit together in the evening - same risk.

Friend's work is going to a hotel that's doing a disco and lots of different firms - they are discussing whether to cancel or play covid roulette. Some people are dropping out.

Gearedtoyou · 02/12/2021 09:56

No, but I think there will be a lot of drop outs. Not because people are scared of being ill but because they don't want to risk having to isolate over the holiday.

merrygoround51 · 02/12/2021 09:57

@TellySavalashairbrush if ever there was a year to get away with not going it’s this year

emmathedilemma · 02/12/2021 09:59

No, one is tomorrow and the other office is the 17th. I'm not going to either.
I've just tried to book a table for dinner out on Saturday (small no. of people) and struggled to get in so people are clearly still going out.

QueenofKattegat · 02/12/2021 10:05

Nope. Going ahead on 17th. Excited to see what inappropriate things I do this year.

Jensonfromtheblock · 02/12/2021 10:07

We’re going out this weekend.

Brokenrecord3006 · 02/12/2021 10:14

Ours is going ahead as normal. We're all working together in the office full time so it would seem pointless to cancel the party but then carry on working together in one room.

Cyclingforcake · 02/12/2021 10:17

Yup - NHS. Both the official ones and the informal get togethers. Am more sad about it than I thought I would be.

SickAndTiredAgain · 02/12/2021 10:18

Nope. It’s quite a big one and they’ve confirmed today it’s going ahead.

Yummypumpkin · 02/12/2021 10:19

Yes and i am fed up because we are all OK to work in the office all day everyday but are told it is too risky for the same people in the office together everyday to have lunch and a glass of wine together!

VaulterTech · 02/12/2021 10:20

I have 6 Christmas parties in a row connected to work. None are cancelled. Sort of wish some were.

emmathedilemma · 02/12/2021 10:26

ah, now part of the reason I'm not going is because of the hypocrisy of us having all these Covid protocols in place in the office but it's ok to go and get pissed and sing and dance at a party!
