Is your work Christmas party cancelled?

Asking just out of interest. I work now on two projects, and dipping in and out of a third - and all three companies have cancelled their Christmas parties now (moved to zoom / teams). What about yours?

I also worry about the effect on the hospitality sector - I think it was a major source of income for them during this period.

We're all wfh so it will be risky extra socialising for us, as we're not already in work together

same for us - we have a team lunch next Tuesday so I guess that gives enough time to catch covid and get better/out of isolation before Christmas. However, DH has his on 16th :(

@Rade

I wouldn't go to a work Christmas party myself but for young single people they can be a way of making friends.

DS23 was looking forward to his. He has worked from home his entire career as he started post covid and was looking forward to some RL interaction and had booked a hotel. It was cancelled with 24 hours notice.

On one of my projects there's an offshore team who flew for 8 hours to the UK to attend all the pre-Christmas team building events / roadshows / parties for the first time in two years... also cancelled with little notice. I feel really bad for them.

Ours is going ahead at the minute for 75 people the weekend before Xmas. I'm not too sure about it going ahead but it is for now

Sockwomble · 02/12/2021 11:51

Dh's, not arranged by his work is still going ahead but he wasn't going anyway. He is still working from home and we aren't doing busy indoor places. We also don't want to try to do 10 days inside with ds over Christmas.

hellsbells99 · 02/12/2021 13:42

Hospitality (and the staff / casual staff) will be struggling again and there is no furlough now

Bobholll · 02/12/2021 14:33

Nope. We had ours yesterday, it was brilliant. And I’ve had no other parties cancelled either. I’ll be out eating & drinking and supporting my local restaurants. The panic is exhausting. I’m going to enjoy Christmas thanks.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/12/2021 14:39

No, it's not an official one though, we're just going out to the pub.

littlepeas · 02/12/2021 14:59

Mine is still on but there are only 9 of us and it’s just a meal. There’s a chance of being ill every Christmas as so many bugs around at this time of year regardless of Covid 🤷‍♀️.

allbartwo · 02/12/2021 15:11

Reading various topics on here, I get the impression that many are more concerned about the possible need to isolate over Christmas than they are about getting seriously ill with Covid or anything else.

Which is fine, but it does worry me that the people who make the decision regarding restrictions will think people will be happy with them as they cancelling stuff by choice.

JeffThePilot · 02/12/2021 15:12

Ours never got organised because nobody could be arsed.

Canceltyping · 02/12/2021 15:19

Nope, still going ahead.

WomensHours · 09/12/2021 22:18

I’m quite surprised my work do is still going ahead, we in the nhs and the department is mainly cancer based. Think the vast majority are going but I’m not to sure whether to go. If it was just our department wouldn’t mind it as we are all vaccinated. But we are going to be a big room with load over people. I’m mean if one gets Covid, that’s all of us basically out if we attend the event. A few people have declined, and are not coming. But think it’s very uneducated decision, to go ahead. As it’s to do with money, the reason they are going ahead. Especially, as it’s a cancer unit, what if someone gives it to patient.

Taswama · 09/12/2021 22:28

Looks like our pub lunch is still going ahead.

Gardeningcreature · 09/12/2021 22:34

No. Our boss said very early on that they could not condone a staff party. Someone has arranged a separate get together though. There are only a few of us and it’s a daytime thing.

LawnFever · 09/12/2021 22:37

Until today ours was going ahead but it’s just been moved to January.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 09/12/2021 22:37

No but I'm not going

marriednotdead · 09/12/2021 22:43

Yes, they cancelled ours today. Would have been a meal out a week before Christmas but they didn’t want to risk it and potentially ruin everyone’s family time.

Drivingslowtosavefuel · 09/12/2021 22:47

Medium sized organisation of 150 people - main Xmas party cancelled; team Xmas lunches still going ahead but no pressure to attend if people don’t want to (I wasn’t going to either as pregnant in 3rd trimester)

AnGofsMum · 09/12/2021 23:00

Yes, cancelled. I teach in a secondary school and we always have a big party for all staff at the end of this term. Has been cancelled but SLT are giving depts some money for smaller gatherings instead.

musicalfrog · 09/12/2021 23:06

Well the isolation rule is going so I wonder if some of those who dropped out in advance are now regretting it.

CiderWithLizzie · 09/12/2021 23:45

Mine is tomorrow night - big function in a hotel with over 100 people going. I’m not though!

Booklover3 · 10/12/2021 00:53

Yes so I’m going to the Downing Street Christmas Rave instead Wink
