Some restrictions back, fed up

Just heard the news about masks returning as of next week and changes to travelling rules.

It’s not so much that wearing a mask is inconvenient, it’s the fact that we were told restrictions were over and that we could get on with our lives.

I know I will get shot down for this post, but if it isn’t the ‘omnicron’ variant then it’ll be something else.

I’m sure many people will be in favour of tighter restrictions ‘until numbers drop’. And then what? In a few months’ time when the latest variant is out, will we have to do the same again?
“it’s just for a few weeks/months”

This isn’t going away. What’s the point of having 3 vaccines?

I’m fed up with it all, are people really prepared to do this for the foreseeable future ?

I knew this would be announced soon after black Friday, now the panic buying will commence. Just what the government wants, more consumerism and fear.

polkadotpixie · 27/11/2021 21:15

I'm not wearing a mask again, it makes me hot and claustrophobic and I'm not doing it

I'm triple jabbed and have had COVID already, I've had worse colds. My unvaccinated DH and DS were also fine when they had it, as were my 60-something parents. I'm aware it's not a popular opinion on Mumsnet but I just don't care about COVID anymore, I'm done

The new rules make zero sense anyway, how can the government justify that masks are required in shops but not clubs/gigs/pubs etc? It's illogical and I'm not willing to abide by arbitrary rules that seem to have been picked out of a hat at random

violetskiss · 27/11/2021 21:15

@Ireallydontcare55

What worries me is how willingly people have accepted the idea of wearing a mask for the rest of their life potentially
Maybe they’re quite happy too, or just don’t care much either way. I know that’s how I feel! I couldn’t care less if I have to wear a mask forever in some settings.
RobinPenguins · 27/11/2021 21:16

I have elderly parents, I won't be inviting them to stay or visit at Christmas. Can you imagine if I passed COVID on and killed one of them.

I will be seeing my parents, if they want to see me and my family, which they do. Can you imagine if they died next year and I’d refused to see them at Christmas?

Clumsyvolcano · 27/11/2021 21:16

@Getyourarseofffthequattro but the people in charge TOLD us that restrictions may be reinstated in the future?

And why do you think humans have the ability to see in to the future?

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 27/11/2021 21:17

@sst1234 where would one find the number of deaths caused by covid restrictions and how would these even be proven to be deaths caused by covid restrictions?

Yes and they also TOLD us lots of other shit that contradicted that.

I don't think anyone can see into the future. I don't think you need to be so condescending and rude.

Lovemusic33 · 27/11/2021 21:18

@Amazingblossoms

I'm with you OP

It's shit

And my autistic son who can't wear a mask (don't @ me that he can, you have no idea) will get even more crap from the nasty little shits at school who can't empathise with anyone who's even just a little bit different.

This

My dd has ASD, she finds it hard wearing a mask but wore one when we were told too, she now refuses blank to wear one, so people will judge despite her being exempt. It’s also hard to explain to someone who is severely autistic that the rules have changed yet again.

Oh get a grip! It was never said that mask wearing would not return. I am no fan of the government but they have been very clear that they could not say some restrictions- especially mask-wearing- would not return. We have fewer restrictions and higher rates than any country our size in the world and have had for months. Just get on with it, it's a minor inconvenience - it won't kill you but Covid might well.

@5keletor

I can't get all worked up about wearing a mask...
Then don't

Every pandemic before now has ended hasn’t it? I’m sure I’ve heard more than once that pandemics usually happen around every hundred years and last around 4 years globally.

Sparklingbrook · 27/11/2021 21:19

It seems that all the people that have the rage over some restrictions coming back presumed the Government had some sort of crystal ball style information that would have avoided it...

megletthesecond · 27/11/2021 21:19

I'm also prepared to do it until the WHO says it's over. There are millions unvaccinated. I'm annoyed because I want to get back to the indoors gym but I'll have to sit tight for longer. I don't have a social life so there's no loss there.

Tbh I might keep masks in winter anyway. I really can't afford to get ill.

fourminutestosavetheworld · 27/11/2021 21:19

I've been as compliant as anyone can be but my heart sank at the new restrictions. I know exactly what you mean op. It's not hardship exactly, as many pp have said, but it does feel like a setback and it's only natural that people will start to worry that it's the thin end of the wedge.

I work in a profession that's worked throughout, so I don't feel frightened really but so many of my friends are genuinely scared to go out or be in crowded places. The fear is disproportionate to the risk but they seem determined to curtail their lives.

Babyvenusplant · 27/11/2021 21:19

@Beechwood I totally agree with you. I just think the majority of people would point blank refuse to do it again, especially if they're making such a fuss about wearing a mask

Jouleigh · 27/11/2021 21:20

@FangsForTheMemory

I'm prepared to do it forever, rather than die of COVID.

HTH.

Me too. I've had Covid twice, we are a high risk household due to kids at school and jobs. Social work & teaching.

The first time was a bad cold with a lot of aches and headaches.

The second time was awful, worse than flu. I'm waiting for an MRI due to the swelling it caused. We all took weeks to feel really normal.

The government guidelines said we had to work or the kids had to attend school until they had symptoms or a positive PCR. We all got it and probably spread it.

We wear masks when shopping etc as we don't want to make others unwell, be nice if everyone else did too.

Clumsyvolcano · 27/11/2021 21:20

@Getyourarseofffthequattro I’m not meaning to be rude but I’m struggling to understand why you thought for a minute that plans definitely wouldn’t change when we’re in the middle of a natural disaster with a virus that has the potential to mutate and we literally have no control over the mutations?

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 27/11/2021 21:21

I understand tge need for restriction but as a deaf person I'm dreading masks in shops as I can't lipread and can't interact with the casier its so isolating

LovePoppy · 27/11/2021 21:21

@Ireallydontcare55

It will pass yeah, until the next variant in a few months’ time.
It’s a mask Grow up Get over it.

It’s not rocket science. Other countries never stopped wearing them and thought the UK was foolish presenting covid was over

Getyourarseofffthequattro · 27/11/2021 21:21

Yeah course. I know you think we're all thick but we're not that thick.

Cripesitsthegasman19 · 27/11/2021 21:21

I'm happy to wear a mask but if they try and reinstate WFH, they can shove that up their arses

Jouleigh · 27/11/2021 21:22

Apologies should have said we are double vaccinated and have had boosters due to work. The two children old enough have had the vaccines they are allowed to.

thegreywoman · 27/11/2021 21:22

@5keletor

To those posting from the rest of the UK/world, not all of us in England are tantruming about masks. My toddler has also stamped his feet and proclaimed he's not doing it, but they was about something else. 😂

It has been the same since Labour decided all hospital wards must work at maximum capacity leaving no wriggle room for stress periods.
