Health Secretary has just said two cases have been found here. That was quick!

OP posts:

@Lilifer

0Oh well.

Viruses mutate. People die.

Such is the way of the world. We need to move on.
Absolutely NO need for this kind of post. None"

Why ever not? Isn't that accurate?

It’s absolutely the truth, and the sooner people accept it the better.
Wilma55 · 27/11/2021 15:59

Brentwood not Chelmsford.

julieca · 27/11/2021 16:00

@SheikhMaraca the average number of years lost for those who had covid and died was ten years.
If you are going to argue that we just let a lot more elderly people die, at least get your facts right.

oakleaffy · 27/11/2021 16:00

Aaand we still allow people in to the country with zero quarantine.
it's nuts.

RoseAndRose · 27/11/2021 16:00

This cannot be seen as acceptable, surely?

So if you were diagnosed with cancer before the pandemic, you're infirm and it doesn't matter if you die? But if you were diagnosed during and you die, that's an avoidable tragedy?

MarshaBradyo · 27/11/2021 16:01

@julieca

MN is always out of step with the general population over covid anyway. Too many people on here with a clear agenda.
I find this idea that irl people are more pro restrictions not matching what I actually see

People are busy doing stuff, often not taking precautions, public support falls for govt in lockdowns

If people mean YouGov or other polls that is not the whole picture

Insertfunnyname · 27/11/2021 16:02

I can’t even…. I’m just tired of caring. Viruses mutate, the media will be drooling over the next mutation before long and will have forgotten this one.

Can’t get too excited to be honest.

julieca · 27/11/2021 16:02

@SheikhMaraca and the issue is that we don't have enough medics in England. They have been so badly treated by this government many have retired early or moved to another country. So we have to ration healthcare. We either do that fairly based on need, or we do it based on who can pay - your proposal.

SheikhMaraca · 27/11/2021 16:02

Elderly, that’s the crucial word, but you know that, since you chose to omit it.

I did notice that after several weeks of being one of a vanishingly small minority in the shops wearing masks that in Aldi this morning it was almost full mask adherence.

^same here. I was in traffic listening to the news and so mostly masked people going about town.

CaveMum · 27/11/2021 16:04

Yes they’re naming all the major variants after letters of the Greek alphabet. The skipped Nu and Xi over concerns about pronunciation! They’re pronounced “Nee” and “Ks” apparently.

julieca · 27/11/2021 16:04

@MarshaBradyo People arent pro restrictions, that is simplistic. But if the government had to bring in restrictions and explained why, then yes most people would support them.

MN has in the past been full of people predicting no one would follow restrictions, and then the research shows most people did follow restrictions.
MN is not an accurate barometer of public opinion. As I said it is too full of people, especially on the coronavirus boards, with their own agendas.

Yes, if it is needed, then most people will comply. Although MN will be flooded with posters stating that no one will comply.

Everyone has their own agenda. Even you it’s not possible to post without giving your opinion. Others call it ‘an agenda’ if they don’t agree but everyone is just posting stuff that they think.

It’s also been recognised fatigue becomes more evident on population level so what has happened isn’t a guarantee it will to same extent.

julieca · 27/11/2021 16:09

I think there are some posters with a very clear agenda.
My own opinion is we need to wait and see if this variant is dangerous or not. No one seems to know at the moment.

RoseAndRose · 27/11/2021 16:09

No, I didn't choose to omit 'elderly' - though I don't think they should have 10 years or so lopped off their expected life span.

I focussed on the infirm, because the 500,000 mist vulnerable in this country - those who are immune suppressed, who have had a third primary jab and for whom the 6-month booster will be their 4th jab - are not an age defined group. They should not be overlooked, and it includes nearly everyone on treatment for cancer.

It's not only the elderly infirm who are at highest risk, and choosing to omit the young highly vulnerable is wrong.

julieca · 27/11/2021 16:10

Yes my friend with cancer got her booster today. She is 32 and is expected to be cured.

Carrotte · 27/11/2021 16:11

Oh great. This is never going to end.

BiLuminous · 27/11/2021 16:11

the anti-vaccine rhetoric in Africa is really going to fuck over the rest of the world

KatherineJaneway · 27/11/2021 16:12

Obvious it was going to be found here

SheikhMaraca · 27/11/2021 16:12
@SheikhMaracaplease dont spread false covid info. The mortality rate for those who catch covid is higher than that.
Ok, how about we look at the CFR in the under 65s? (0.09% according to Worldometer)

Do you really think that justifies this kind of hysteria?

It’s an awful situation, I completely agree, but all common sense seems to have gone out of the window.

RoseAndRose · 27/11/2021 16:13

I agree.

It takes up to a week or so between catching covid to needing hospital. We need time before there is any chance of assessing whether this variant is producing more cases that are severe.

In the mean time, should there be some measures to dampen down transmission levels so that if it produces more severe disease, we are on the front foot?

MarshaBradyo · 27/11/2021 16:13

@julieca

Of course.

That’s all that can be done.

Equally some will be concerned about having restrictions others more re not having restrictions. It’s not an agenda either way, well if it is it’s both sides.

It’s just people voicing what they want or hope to happen, not unusual.

julieca · 27/11/2021 16:13

@SheikhMaraca Yes it is mainly over 65s. I don't consider 66 to be elderly

AnkleDeep · 27/11/2021 16:14

@twelly

We can't now go back into the lockdowns and extreme measures - these have already caused enough damage. We need to accept the virus is here and get on with life
Ridiculous statement.

Daft.
