Health Secretary has just said two cases have been found here. That was quick!

OP posts:

@Incognito22333

They have found 60 in Germany. We must have lots more than 2 with all the flights into Heathrow from that region
No, there were 61 positive cases on a flight to the Netherlands. I've checked a German news website and the official line is that there is a very high probability Omicron is in the country, but only one person has so far tested positive for it at Frankfurt Airport.
AledsiPad · 27/11/2021 14:29

Oh well.

Viruses mutate. People die.

Such is the way of the world. We need to move on.

CaveMum · 27/11/2021 14:30

They’ve said the 2 cases have a connection, so no evidence, yet, of community spread.

Jourdain11 · 27/11/2021 14:30

I just can't bring myself to even care any more.

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 27/11/2021 14:31

@KittyBurrito

SA virology facilities are some of the best in the world. Just because they found it there does not mean it's necessarily come from there. It just means they found and sequenced it first.
No kidding.

Who is saying otherwise??

Elieza · 27/11/2021 14:32

It will be in the country. The way you’re packed in a plane and with the amount of travel just now. Yup.

There’s a woman from SA mentioned on another thread not isolating while awaiting a pcr being posted to her.

She took a test two days into the U.K. per the guidance at the time apparently.

But she’s been told she can go out and about just now?

I just don’t get it.

vera16 · 27/11/2021 14:32

Vaccine in 100 days - good but what happened to the vaccine vs delta mutations? All went quiet on that front? If we already had a 'next generation' vaccine we would be in a better place to tackle this new variant wouldn't we?

GiveMeNovocain · 27/11/2021 14:33

It's the pre Christmas variant. A few more of these and we can call it a traditional

speakout · 27/11/2021 14:33

This means Omicrom is everywhere now.

CityCommuter · 27/11/2021 14:33

Does anyone know where in the UK?

screwcovid · 27/11/2021 14:33

@Mantlemoose

Meh it will be another version in a month. I'm past caring. I am being sensible but I'm not putting my life on hold ever again.
Thank you someone taking sense if I get it I get it if I die I die I am fucked off not living my life and my patents living theirs enough
ComtesseDeSpair · 27/11/2021 14:33

@Thewiseoneincognito

In hindsight we’re going to wonder why we didn’t implement plan B at this point if they don’t do it this weekend.
Plan B would be in response to “unsustainable pressure” on the NHS. At the moment, we have no clear idea whether Omicron is either more transmissible or more likely to result in serious illness. Introducing measures which would include Covid passports, during the weeks where the hospitality industry expects to do much of the trade which keeps it afloat, based on little more than some people panicking, isn’t a move to be taken lightly.

Chelmsford and Nottingham. One case in each.

Absolutely NO need for this kind of post. None.
MeanderingGently · 27/11/2021 14:34

Bloody typical, one case would be Nottingham. In the East Midlands here, and there's a case in the next door major town.
Maybe things don't bode well for Christmas after all.....

CaveMum · 27/11/2021 14:34

KittenCatcher · 27/11/2021 14:34

Inevitable and probably more than 2 cases

Silverswirl · 27/11/2021 14:37

It will be all over the UK. It will have been here for weeks.
By the time any news varient is discovered in any developed nation, it will already be here.
By the time any new vaccine is developed for any new variant it will be widely circulated (unless there is some strict lockdown for months or course and even then it will be circulated)

ComDummings · 27/11/2021 14:38

In reality it’s probably rife already to be honest

leafyygreens · 27/11/2021 14:39

Nobody will be merrily living their life in an uncontrolled pandemic type situation. It literally isn't possible when you have huge amount of people ill/isolating/hospitlised/dead because of the impact on the all the things needed to keep society functioning.

I'm not saying this is what will happen (we simply don't know right now), but I can understand the need for some level of suppression/mitigation policy until we work out the situation.

Amberflames · 27/11/2021 14:39

@Jourdain11

I just can't bring myself to even care any more.
I’m with you.

OH wouldn’t stop banging on about it yesterday. Not sure what he expected me to do about it.

Wingingthis · 27/11/2021 14:40

Stay hopeful that it won’t be resistant to vaccines, not all hope is lost yet 🤞🏼

Againstmachine · 27/11/2021 14:40

Absolutely NO need for this kind of post. None.

Why isn't there a need people losing livelihood jobs ect. Covid isn't the only thing in the world.

Same here.
Amberflames · 27/11/2021 14:40

We do a lot of sequencing here. Wouldn’t we have found more by now if the country was riddled with it?
