AIBU : unvaxxed friend moaning about covid

My friend has covid. Her husband and her kids have covid. They are not seriously ill thank goodness, but they're feeling pretty rough and finding it hard and inconvenient to be stuck inside feeling unwell and have all the hassle of Test and Trace etc

Every day she posts on social media moaning about it. I get that it's not fun for her, but I know loads of people who've had covid (including some who were hospitalised) and none of them seemed to need to complain so publicly. The kicker is, she and all her family are unvaccinated. AIBU to feel irritated?

Yabu and annoying. Why do you think she cannot complain about having covid and having to self isolate for 10 days?

ANameChangeAgain · 23/11/2021 23:39

Think of her posts as public service announcements, persuading people to get vaccinated.

KaptainKaveman · 23/11/2021 23:39

YANBU at all. If she's not vaccinated then she can expect to become ill. She's stupid!

UnicyclingBabies · 23/11/2021 23:39

Because she chose not to take the simple action that would have provided meaningful protection to her and those around her from catching it.

ANameChange that's a very good point! Thank you, I will think of that when I see her next post!

I'm sure she would've got it anyway, vaccine or no vaccine - just like everyone else lately

BorisKilledMyHusband · 23/11/2021 23:48

Yanbu

Kinko · 23/11/2021 23:50

She can do what she wants on her own Facebook page - but I get that it's irritating. Snooze her for 30 days (handy function on fb) and forget about it.

AnnieSnap · 23/11/2021 23:51

YANBU and no @InexperiencedDogOwner she wouldn’t necessarily have got it anyway. The chances of getting it if you’re vaccinated is considerably lower. 🙄

Nerdygirl · 23/11/2021 23:55

Of course she would have got if vaccinated . There are plenty of people dying of it who are vaccinated . I haven’t even been vaccinated 2 months and currently have it

If she wants to moan then that’s up to her , she is alllowed to have feelings, she is not some sort of second class citizen. If she sees this list then she can have a moan about the sort of people that she thinks are her friends

Totallydefeated · 24/11/2021 00:17

She’s allowed to have feelings about a shitty situation, even if she hasn’t done the same as you.

Grayskelly · 24/11/2021 00:18

It's easy to ignore someone's social media if it annoys you.

XenoBitch · 24/11/2021 00:34

YABU
You don't know how ill she would have been, with or with the vaccine.
You could be a good friend, and wish her well, or you can snooze her on FB and carry on with your life.

hopeful777 · 24/11/2021 02:26

You aren’t unsympathetic towards someone who had a heart attack because they had a high fat, low exercise lifestyle; or to a person with lung cancer because of their smoking history. Why is it ok to think someone who chooses not to be vaccinated should be muted because of their life decision? The ‘vaccine’ is not a miracle cure and as far as I understood, we still live in a free society which gives each individual the right to choose what goes into their own body.

I wish anyone suffering from any illness the strength to overcome it and pray as a society we can move on from the effects of Covid without this divide being imposed on us between vaccinated vs unvaccinated

teaandbiscuitspleaseplease · 24/11/2021 02:56

YABU to be annoyed by anyone’s social media posts. Just snooze / unfollow and get in with your life.

Esspee · 24/11/2021 02:59

hopeful777. Many people are less sympathetic to those with self inflicted illnesses.

It is a free society but frankly I would rather not be paying through my taxes to treat someone who is responsible for their condition.

NynaeveSedai · 24/11/2021 03:21

@InexperiencedDogOwner

I'm sure she would've got it anyway, vaccine or no vaccine - just like everyone else lately
Yeah but the vaccine makes you less likely to get it Confused That's literally the point of it
Mumdiva99 · 24/11/2021 04:24

I'm vaccinated and I have it....the first time it's in our house and has hit the kids (unvaccinated) and me. Dh so far has escaped....
If she's at the point of moaning about staying home I would guess she isn't feeling ill.

PurpleSneakers · 24/11/2021 06:36

@hopeful777
Excellent post!

Remmy123 · 24/11/2021 06:49

My friend is VACCINATED and had paramedics out because she couidn't breath well!!!! She is in her late 30's!

Being vaccinated doesn't stop you getting ill with it.

Op you sound like a horrible friend.

IHateFlies · 24/11/2021 06:52

It’s worrying that so many people think they’re not going to get covid because they’re vaccinated. It’s quite known now that it gives protection from serious illness, but not protection from getting covid.

ButtonSister · 24/11/2021 06:54

Being vaccinated reduces the chances of getting Covid, and the effect of the virus if you do get it - why do anti-vaxxers ignore this simple fact?

Remmy123 · 24/11/2021 07:09

@ButtonSister I know more vaccinated people with covid then I did pre-vaccine.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 24/11/2021 07:13

Yabu and preachy
My ds has covid , I'm fully vaccinated but he's 7 and I'm on my own, so I'm housebound too and it is annoying ! I know plenty of vaccinated people that have caught covid too .
I don't really know what the point you are making is ?
You think serves them right for not being vaccinated?
Everyone is catching it vaccinated or not .
