@SencosRshit

I’ve run out of LFTs and they’re not handing them out round here anymore.

I thought they were phasing that out to save money.

Should I be getting a PCR done weekly, at least?

Do you have symptoms every week? Surely a very basic yes/no flowchart is all you need to answer your question yourself.

How do you not know that?

nope, as has been the case for at least a year, PCRs only recommended if you have symptoms

you can order LFTs to do twice weekly, if you want to. Benefits are that you know if you are positive and can isolate, negatives are that you run the risk of a false positive which means you may need to isolate uncessarily until your PCR result comes back. Based on your personal circumstances only you can say if it that is too problematic for you.

SencosRshit · 19/11/2021 19:24

I presume I have symptoms of the symptomless variant every week, yes.

Symptomless variant … so basically healthy then?!

you must be very pleased with yourself @SencosRshit Grin

Badbadbunny

So no truly a symptomless variant then? And they wonder why people are questioning.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 19/11/2021 19:30

Are you ymptoms of the symptomless variant included on the list of symptoms that qualify for a PCR test?

Again, a simple yes or no will point you in the right direction.

Mynameismargot · 19/11/2021 19:37

@FreshFreesias

Covid Cultists will never be satisfied until we are locked down to the end of time.
Imagine thinking you are being smart posting that Grin
SencosRshit · 19/11/2021 19:47

I don’t think the symptomless variant’s symptoms are on the list that qualify for PCR tests, no.

OP posts:
scaevola · 19/11/2021 19:48

If you swop 'symptomless 'for 'asymptomatic' perhaps the familiarity of this concept throughout the pandemic will be a little more apparent

And yes, regular testing to show asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic infection has been with us for about a year now.

It's really not news.

A dead host is a dead end true, but not really relevant to covid, which spreads before the onset of symptoms (assuming there symptoms) so it doesn't matter how quickly it kills that host as it's already moved on

We’re not even locked down and still people are moaning about lockdowns.

Jolly good, then it won't be hard to understand that if you wanted to you could do twice-weekly LFT testing

What is asymptomatic/presymptomatic for you may not be for the people involved in the chain of tranmsission you can unwittingly start if walking around unware you have coronavirus.

ollyollyoxenfree · 19/11/2021 19:52

@MarshaBradyo

Reduced symptoms good, increased transmissibilty (in combination with more people not knowing they have it), potentially bad
SencosRshit · 19/11/2021 19:55

When and how do we know if the symptomless variant has disappeared?

OP posts:
MarshaBradyo · 19/11/2021 19:56

Olly so not always symptomless? Some still get ill / worse

But then we have asymptomatic spread now so is this just increased version of that?

I honestly don't know- haven't been able to track down the preprint the articles are referring to, I'm just relying on the few bits of details from what journalists have reported..

Will post if I ever manage to read it!

WonderfulYou · 19/11/2021 20:01

When and how do we know if the symptomless variant has disappeared?

Does it matter?

Do your LFT tests twice a week and if they aren’t positive assume you don’t have it.

If they’re negative and you think you may have it then do a PCR to put your mind at rest.

But I will always think I have it. Unless I have symptoms of some sort.

And that has relevance for the rest of us, how?

PurpleDaisies · 19/11/2021 20:12

So keep doing lfts.

@SencosRshit

Presumably when people stop being hospitalised and dying due to it.
SencosRshit · 19/11/2021 20:39

I wonder if the vaccines work for the symptomless variant

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 19/11/2021 20:55

You keep calling it that.

It has a name: delta plus. Is that too similar to a well known variant to get the reaction you wanted?
