Will vaccine passports be dropped any time soon?

Let's be honest - they're as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

A vaccine passport doesn't stop the spread - be that on planes or in large venues etc, so will we go back to testing?

Yes it's a pain in the backside, and it's easier to whip your phone out, but testing is currently massively more reliable at finding infected people than relying on a QR code which doesn't actually prove the person is negative at the time of them attending said event/journey.

I really am struggling with their effectiveness in trying to stop the spread.

Will we really need them for the foreseeable or will they admit they're not fit for purpose?

Emerging research (Imperial College) to name one, is showing that viral load is similar in both vaccinated and unvaccinated and only marginally reduces transmission in domestic settings.

There is no use for any restriction to any human regardless of nationality or location. The vaccine is doing what it should by providing protection from a poor outcome to the individual.

@DavidDevantsSpiritWife

Nothing to do with this thread, but just noticed your name. Many years ago I played in a band and we supported David Devant & his Spirit Wife! Had forgotten all about them until now.

I don't disagree with the (hopefully temporary) vaccine passports in theory, but they have no place with a virus that seems to be increasingly evading the available vaccines).

Come back with vaccines that actually prevent the vast, vast number of infections. Until then, these vaccine passports just seem like another Tory-crony money spinner.

Ridingthegravytrain · 04/11/2021 11:53

It’s ok plans are in the pipeline for a blockchain based worldwide pass system.

Hope everyone opted out of the nhs and gp data sharing

bumbleymummy · 04/11/2021 12:03

Yes, it seems less and less about ‘following the science’ and more about lining people’s pockets.

Sugarandtime · 04/11/2021 12:16

If the injections actually stoped people from contracting and spreading the virus then I think the passports would have a place in society.
As it does nothing of the sort according to government figures in their technical reports and the sheer number of vaccinated people currently catching and spreading it then having the passports is creating a very nasty world.

Chris Evans on Virgin radio just got back from 2 weeks in Portugal and was saying on Monday how unwell he was feeling had had felt unwell while away. It’s ok he said, it a non covid cold.
Next day he’s off isolating as he has covid.

So he spent a week in Portugal, a flight home and whatever he did when he arrived back potentially spreading the virus around.
Fat load of good his vaccine passport was
He could travel without testing as he had a vaccine passport yet was ill, just like people in countries can attend events, cafes etc and could be spreading the virus, but that’s ok, because they have a pass on their phone.

FlyLight · 04/11/2021 12:33

It's utterly ridiculous but as previous posters have pointed out there's plenty of people thinking they're a great idea despite the total lack of logic. Just seen a facebook post from a friend saying how impressed they are that a cafe in Holland wasn't letting people in without a vaccine. But being vaccinated is clearly meaningless given the amount of people catching and spreading it. The world has gone insane.

*Yes IDs are not a problem until they turn into a social credit system. Regulating a person’s movements based on medical choices absolutely falls into this category.

By the time the penny drops for people of what they are welcoming they won’t even have the freedom to moan about it on social media as they will put their ‘freedom pass’ in jeopardy.*

Agree with you entirely. I think the government can rest easy for now though as that penny isn't going to drop for many any time soon.

I am one of what must be many that was AZ double jabbed earlier in the year (second in June) because at the time I thought I was doing the right thing. Even if I wanted one, I'm not eligible for a booster anytime soon. I am due to attend an big indoor event that requires a Covid pass or negative LFT in December. The fact I can download a pass to say I'm 'safe' without needing a test, just because I had a jab six months beforehand, tells me all I need to know about this absolute farce of an idea.

Whyevencare · 04/11/2021 12:48

[quote FlorenciaFlora]The covid pass will be a social credit system.

I find it unbelievable that people are ok with it.

Sadly most people are so utterly brainwashed they just can't see it.

Sugarandtime · 04/11/2021 13:18

Well, the government’s behavioural psychologists have played a blinder haven’t they.
I bet they can’t quite believe just how easy it was.

The well documented tactics of the government’s scientists have created fear amongst the population, when people act of of fear, their decision making is compromised and they make irrational decisions, this would explain why so many are welcoming the idea segregation of the unvaccinated despite the fact that there is very clearly no good reason to do so.
EffOrf · 04/11/2021 13:50

@Geamhradh

A very quick AS tells me how old you are, what month your birthday is, where you live, how old your children are and your religion. And that was the first three posts from you on a search. I don't think a vaccine passport holds that kind of info.
People don't put there details on here surely, I change mine as the site is not secure. Surely it will be a fake birthday not someone's real one
EffOrf · 04/11/2021 13:50

Their

userperuser · 04/11/2021 13:54

AS only shows what any poster has previously posted on threads however, there’s no way to verify any information, it doesn’t reveal a posters information they used to sign up to MN and in any case a lot of people don’t even use true details for that.

EffOrf · 04/11/2021 13:56

I opted out of the NHS data sharing ages ago, iirc it was put back a bit so there is probably still time for people to do this

Ridingthegravytrain · 04/11/2021 15:20

Did you also opt out of gp sharing information. It was a separate form from the nhs opt out

EffOrf · 04/11/2021 16:26

Possibly not, I haven't seen the GP for about 20 years so probably not much to share anyway, did the NHS one a few years ago

Silverswirl · 05/11/2021 13:17

@userperuser

What if the tables were turned and suddenly restriction of the at risk was being considered due to the risk they presented to the NHS, how would you feel about that?

Pre vaccine the CV made a lot of noise about that idea.

Exactly. I’ll tell you what, how about we restrict all those vulnerable from large venues and crowded places for their own safety and to not overwhelm the nhs. Restricting one group for the benefit of another based on not having an irreversible medical procedure is not ok. How about when it gets to kids? If a 12 year old doesn’t want the vaccine does that mean they can go where the rest of the family go? What about when the vaxx comes to younger kids? Will all parents feel coerced into giving their 5+ year olds a new vaccine because otherwise they won’t be able to go to the same places as their friends?
bumbleymummy · 05/11/2021 14:13

Did I read today that somewhere in California has extended their vaccine mandate for schools to 5 year olds? Iirc they expect them all to have been vaccinated in 8 weeks in order to be able to attend school.

bumbleymummy · 05/11/2021 14:25

Apologies, it wasn’t for school, it was for certain indoor public spaces/events:

School will probably be the next thing.

I’m losing patience with vax passport mob.

bumbleymummy · 05/11/2021 22:41

The US seem to have taken it to a whole new level. I feel like things seem to be staring to settle down here but they seem to be completely ramping up over there! So many of my friends won’t take their young children anywhere without a mask on. :(
