Face mask supplies

I've been to 3 Boots stores and 2 Superdrugs today trying to get hold of disposable face masks for my kids for school (mask mandate). Managed to track some down in Wilkos but not sure of quality tbh.

Has anyone else had any issues? It's not like most people are even bothering with masks these days round here Hmm!

Why disposables? Can you not use washable ones?

LikesnowinMay · 30/10/2021 12:03

I don't know whether they have anything child-specific, but I've found UK Meds to be good for masks. Maybe worth a look?

Howunusualisthis · 30/10/2021 13:53

@dementedpixie 3 kids, a clean mask every day plus spares. Yes I probably could (and have) but I was looking for disposables. Just wondering if others are finding there's a supply issue or just South London.

Tesco had the children's masks reduced this week. Please try to use reusable ones.

NannyR · 30/10/2021 14:12

The cloth ones all seen to be very heavily reduced in places like Tesco at the moment. Lidl had plenty of disposable ones by the checkout yesterday but they were £6 for 10 (I haven't bought any disposables so don't know what they sell for, but that seemed expensive?)

lljkk · 30/10/2021 14:16

100 for £5 delivered from eBay.

Tailendofsummer · 30/10/2021 14:20

I always order online, initially because it was cheaper but now because it's hard to find supplies. Strange as where I live masks are still required. Cloth ones don't generally have a metal bit and so don't fit my face as well. I'm in one all day so need safety and comfort.

kowari · 30/10/2021 14:21

So you'd be throwing out 15 a week? With three kids how often are you washing? I throw them in with anything and they dry overnight.

Artie30 · 30/10/2021 14:21

All I'm seeing is reduced masks everywhere!

I can only wear disposables (I cannot tolerate fabric masks against my skin for long). Honestly I don't tend to buy expensive ones. I buy cheap ones from Amazon or b&m! They've done me well so far!

Datsandcogs · 30/10/2021 14:57

Please buy reuseable masks. They’re not uncomfortable if worn with a mask frame. They’re easily washed and much better for the environment as well as being cheaper in the longer term.

Mosky · 30/10/2021 17:33

I used cloth masks for over a year but have now switched to reuseable.
Tried mask frames and they are still much harder to wear than disposable, certainly if worn for more than a few minutes.

You can get in blue, white, pink or black now. I just bought 100 black masks from Amazon, no supply issues there.

How relevant is my washing rota? I'm a single parent and work full time. I do the washing at the weekend.

We use the Cambridge FFP2s., they work out cheaper than the disposables and they are really effective (and don't create so much waste).

kowari · 30/10/2021 18:10

It would determine how many masks you'd need. I do a midweek wash so only need three per person.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 30/10/2021 18:18

Try B&M they usually have them

2boysand1princess · 30/10/2021 18:37

I’m after disposables too and found them out of stock in many places this week.

Motnight · 30/10/2021 18:40

We buy them from Amazon. I can't use cloth ones, my skin reacts really badly even when I wash the masks every day.

operatinginstructions · 30/10/2021 18:46

I use disposable masks too, three or four ply, proven to be more effective than a fabric mask.

Amazon, next day delivery. I can't remember the name but I buy from a firm who make them in Kent.

operatinginstructions · 30/10/2021 18:47

Archmed, that is the brand.

Amazon - 50 for a fiver. I'm in a school in a mask a lot of the time, I switched to disposable in March this year and won't go back. Just so much more comfortable for a long period of time, walking the whole time, climbing 4 flights of stairs repeatedly.

BananaPB · 30/10/2021 23:18

They are harder to find despite the fact that dc needs to wear one all day at school. I bought some in B&M but my local Aldi and Morrison's didn't have any.

JanglyBeads · 31/10/2021 00:06

The disposable ones are in fact washable - scientifically tested to still work for up to 10 washes!
Yes I find them more comfortable if for long period of time too.

user564398 · 31/10/2021 05:38

I buy mine from Amazon, they are far too expensive in the shops. eBay is a similar price to Amazon if you prefer to buy from there.

Yes, I do this too. Discover3d by accident, obv.
