Are people just going out with symptoms now…?

Went out with DC and a friend this morning.
We started off in local soft play and went to a family pub for lunch.

The soft play was literally full of kids who more than half of them were coughing.
Adults were coughing too.

At first I thought I was just being a bit hyper vigilant, until my friend mentioned it to me and said she felt uncomfortable.

We headed to the pub for lunch and to our surprise, it was the same there only this time it was more adults coughing.

It wasn’t even the same people,

I know it’s that time of year and we have to expect colds etc, but surely if you’re coughing, with a continuous cough, during a pandemic, then you would stay at home… 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve had a full on hacking cough for eight weeks following a bad cold. Ive taken multiple PCR tests and I’m doing LF every few days - all negative. I can’t quarantine me and my two toddlers in the house for that long - especially as the doctors don’t seem to care about a cough until 12 weeks. I’m trying very hard to be considerate - I’m keeping strepsils in business, wearing a mask, coughing in to my elbow away from others, but I've had plenty of glares. So thanks for the judgement.

Missmissmiiiiiiiiisss · 28/10/2021 22:00

@Dandy008

*Are you honestly suggesting anyone who tests negative should still stay indoors??*

@PinkWaferBiscuit

Nope, not suggesting this.
I just think if you’re coughing, and I mean coughing so continuously that it’s blatantly obvious you’re unwell, then the most considerate thing to do is to stay at home. Covid or not.

That’s consigning most children with asthma (and many other families whose kids have tested negative but have a cough) to an extremely restricted life. I think it’s really unacceptable for children to be denied normal play and socialisation if they don’t have covid.

The quote isn't my post. I think somebody was replying to me by @'ing me on the thread. My post is actually the total opposite of the one quoted.

Sorry quoted and tagged wrong poster, apologises

Everyone who wants to be are jabbed now, time to get on with life.

No they haven’t. My DS hadn’t been vaccinated yet and won’t be fully vaccinated any time soon thanks to the government reckoning they know better than the rest of the world. My own vaccine is coming to the end of its efficacy with no booster in sight. My DM hadn’t had her booster yet despite being 77. Stop with the ‘everyone’s jabbed now so it’s all ok’. It’s not.

RollaCola84 · 28/10/2021 22:09

My mum has an asthmatic cough and my partner's mum has had a permanent cough for almost ten years as a medication side effect. Shall we just nail them both into their houses ???

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 28/10/2021 22:09

I have an un-lovely combination of acid reflux and allergies, so often cough. Wearing a mask (which s mandatory here still) makes my nose run for some reason, I can’t blow it because of the mask, then it runs into my throat and I cough. I do lateral flow tests twice a week and have some PCR tests for anything out of the ordinary, and am double jagged, but otherwise I can’t stay home 100% of the time.

TheSunIsStillShining · 28/10/2021 22:11

@QuentinBunbury

They have probably been tested and are negative Don't be so judgemental
haha.
Amboseli · 28/10/2021 22:11

DD has a cough. Negative PCR. Where she works everyone has a cough. All negative. Everyone has been offered a jab. Covid is here to stay, we have to live our lives and make the most of today.

aleC4 · 28/10/2021 22:14

I have asthma and I cough. A lot.
Lots of things make me cough but especially even a slight cold or virus.
Cold weather is also a big trigger for me.
If I had to stay in all the time I'm coughing I wouldn't be able to do my job or have any kind of life.

Abouttimemum · 28/10/2021 22:18

I’ve got a bit of a cold that results in periods of continuous coughing, it’s a tickle in my throat that I can’t stop. It happened yesterday when I was at the range and I felt like a leper.

I don’t have Covid. Life goes on, people have shit to do, there’s other illnesses.
I have a toddler that’s ill all the time so I’d literally never go out.

fabulouslyglamorousferret · 28/10/2021 22:20

Oh behave! the people coughing around you are getting more and more serious with each post. I don't believe the child was 'retching' with her cough 🤣 I think you've realised you're being silly and judgmental .. so drip, drip!

MichelleScarn · 28/10/2021 22:27

@Pootle40

Did you think this before March 2020? I remember many many trips to concerts, pantos etc and you would hear people cough all the time. Who honestly cares
Yes, and of course there would never have been the Millionairw coughing hoo-ha in this cough free world!
Bobholll · 28/10/2021 22:29

Haha. That’s so true! Major Ingram would never have won the million in covid times! His coughing pal would have been refused entry 😂😂

Shallwegoforawalk · 28/10/2021 22:32

@Treblebass

I still think it’s disgusting covid or not. If I have a bad cough I stay at home.
Someone else pays your bills then? Not everyone has the choice to stay home.
generalh · 28/10/2021 22:32

I have a cough all year round. Linked to my hiatus hernia and acid reflux.

Hesma · 28/10/2021 22:33

I have just completed my isolation. The rules are clear if you have a temperature you must continue to isolate but the residual cough or lack of taste and smell lasts way past the virus so you can go out if you still have a cough

Bobholll · 28/10/2021 22:34

Also, when they say the vaccine reduces in efficiency after 6 months .. it doesn’t just stop working. It’s still 65-75% effective which is FAR higher than the flu jab most years.. people like @CarrieBlue post as if their vaccine cuts off at 6 months & they have zero protection. Categorically untrue.

My friends Nan got covid in September age 95. She was one of the first to be vaccinated & hasn’t had a booster. She did end up on a ventilator but within 5 days, was off, recovering & is now back home. Still feeling a little shakey but I bumped into her in the co-op yesterday & she was telling me she’s had enough of everyone telling her to rest 😂😂 The doctors said her vaccine absolutely saved her life despite being 9/10 months after having it.

CarrieBlue · 28/10/2021 22:41

@Bobholll I have never said I have zero protection. Please don’t state categorically untrue things about my posts. People like you post as if there’s no pandemic and no risk. That is categorically untrue.

bunnybopbop · 28/10/2021 22:41

I remember one of your older posts about bollocking your DH for having a night out.

Nearly all of your previous posts are about covid, and all one ones you've commented on are about covid / covid anxiety.

I have a hacking cough and have done for 3 weeks due to a cold I can't shift.

Do I stay in the whole time?? Soft play is literally a germ party. There are SO much germs on the apparatus.

Honestly.. where do we draw the line. None of us can go out due to a cough? There are colds and viruses going around. I wouldn't stay in the house for a common cold.

Yes there are selfish pricks who don't test and just go on about their life, but it's cold season. If you expect everyone to stay indoors who had a cough or a cold, the streets would look like lockdown #1 again.. if you're this afraid of germs I wouldn't take your DS to soft play..

penguin23 · 28/10/2021 22:42

I have coughed every day for the past 20 years, I used to get very severe tonsillitis very frequently and now have scar tissue in my throat which gets aggravated by anything, especially cold air and very warm air (all diagnosed by a doctor). I get a very different cough when poorly so I know the difference. The looks I've had for being out have made me feel very intimidated. Should I be staying home... indefinitely?! It's not always covid, or a cold, or any contagious illness!!

CherryBlossomAutumn · 28/10/2021 22:47

I wouldn’t be bringing your kid to soft play, they are bound to pick up one of the viruses that are coming back in abundance. It’s inside activity where loads of kids mix. So many other things to do with your kids that are mild to moderate risk from outside places, to smaller activities with less turnover of kids.

Hmmm21 · 28/10/2021 22:50

What about people who've tested already? You can't just lock everyone with a cold up for the entire winter.

My son had bronchiolitis recently, was in hospital with it, obviously tested for Covid and again in hospital, both negative. They told us his cough could last months. Do we walk around with a big neon sign saying NOT COVID or do I just keep him shut inside for that time?

stingofthebutterfly · 28/10/2021 22:52

My family have been coughing recently. Nobody is unwell and nobody has covid. I'm not going to stay in just because I might get some judgemental looks from the covid police.

I cough most Octobers (cough variant asthma which does not seem to like Autumn).

I do lateral flows every day, as I know how bad it sounds, but I honestly am this bad every October. It is not a "new" cough and I cannot stay home for a month!
