Age 12-15, are they now 'fully vaxcinated' after one jab?

My son age 14 has had one dose of Pfizer at school and apparently that age group are only getting one. Does that mean he will be classed as "fully vaccinated" for travel to Europe and will no longer have to do fit to fly pre departure PCRs?

Most European countries won't recognise him as fully vaccinated, no.

CarrieBlue · 15/10/2021 20:04

No

dementedpixie · 15/10/2021 20:06

No

LubaLuca · 15/10/2021 20:09

No, we're not in line with other European countries' vaccination expectations for under-18s.

BunsyGirl · 15/10/2021 20:27

No and you still won’t be able to travel to some countries such as Malta. The U.K. is out of line with the rest of the World.

Sonex · 15/10/2021 20:48

you can still travel to Malta surely, just the usual PCR test ....

Not likely given that certain children with underlying condition s are getting two doses

KaleJuicer · 15/10/2021 20:52

Nope

Geamhradh · 15/10/2021 21:41

Other countries aren't going to accept UK kids as fully vaccinated with one jab when their own have all had two. Obviously.

BunsyGirl · 15/10/2021 21:46

@Sonex no you can’t. All 12 and overs must be double vaccinated to enter Malta.

BunsyGirl · 15/10/2021 21:58

Germany is another place which is requiring 12 and overs to be double jabbed otherwise no entry to the country for U.K. citizens. Canada will allow unvaccinated over 12’s in but they have to quarantine for two weeks.

Sonex · 15/10/2021 22:31

It's not obvious at all, which is why I asked. My 14 year old has been to 3 European countries this year before having ever one vaccination.

Nope. Plus one jab has not been proven to be effective.

All risk minimal benefit

Mumof3cherubs · 15/10/2021 23:15

I’ve been told Italy currently accept single dose for entry into restaurants

wlv12 · 16/10/2021 00:34

Missing the point but my 15 year old DS who is CV was initially told he’d have 1 vaccination but I’ve had a text today inviting him for his 2nd. It’s booked for next week.

Pomegranita · 16/10/2021 00:48

I believe there is a quarantine for The Netherlands as well, unless you're fully vaccinated or under 12.

BunsyGirl · 16/10/2021 06:30

@Sonex I never said it was obvious but every country has its own rules so you can never assume that because you have been to one country that you can go to another, even in the EU.

Geamhradh · 16/10/2021 06:30

@Mumof3cherubs

I’ve been told Italy currently accept single dose for entry into restaurants
With an EU/Green Pass which shows the second dose has been booked, yes. The GP is issued 12 days after the first dose, and is valid up to the date of the second. If the NHS pass shows the same information, then presumably it would be accepted. As said, though, there is confusion about getting a one-dose teen into Italy to start with. UK/Italy gov websites say two different things.
Sonex · 17/10/2021 23:23

I'm not assuming anything, that's why I asked!

My point IS that there is no consistency, and so thats why I asked what the situation was with partially vaccinated 12-15y olds. Mine has been to 3 countries that were prepared to let him in with no vaccination, other like Malta appear to not be letting him in until he has both.

I'd write to your MP about it. We all should, with 12-15 year olds, not just about holidays but about why we are now so behind on vaccinating teenagers.

aramox · 18/10/2021 05:23

So 15 y os can't get into Germany at all? And will they get a second dose when they're 16? What a mess.

Pythonesque · 18/10/2021 05:34

I don't think second doses are being offered yet to 16 and 17 yr olds, either.

tiredandmardy · 18/10/2021 06:04

@Sonex - I agree it’s not obvious at all, or even logical. My DD has had one jab and that will be it. My DS won’t be able to get his until January. Even after that, they are both treated as ‘unvaccinated’ by many countries when travelling.

The credible, useful, experts are openly saying one jab does not help with Delta (which is the dominant variety).

I just don’t understand the Government approach to be honest. Not for the first time.

BellsaRinging · 18/10/2021 06:04

No. We are off to Greece and 17yo ds who has just had one has to have a pcr. They do however count as fully vaccinated for uk purposes so you only need the day 2 lat flow on return, like the rest of the family.

Longdistance · 18/10/2021 06:18

Dd is 12. Had her vaccine, but cannot get a vaccine certificate to prove it. You can over 16, so we’ve ordered a LFT to enter Portugal. I think she needs a day two like us who are vaccinated too. Dd 10 gets a ‘get out of jail, free’ card as she’s too young.
