Is it just me or is this board getting a bit quieter?

That’s a good sign, right? :)

OP posts:

I think that there are some circumstances over the winter in which people might change their minds again (but I am hoping that we can get through this without more drastic restrictions).

I think going with Plan A and Plan B was clever actually (because obviously they don't know exactly what is going to happen and contingency planning is important)

TheKeatingFive · 12/10/2021 18:51

People really attribute way too much power to little bits of cloth.

I think it's a testimony to how much the need is psychological. People want to feel like something is being done. The bits of cloth work in that regard as they're very visible.

Otherwise, why not just shift focus to the medical grade ones for those who want them as they seem to demonstrably offer some protection?

herecomesthsun · 12/10/2021 18:54

Well Germany did, and it seems fairly sensible. Mind you, they have or had a scientist in charge.

MarshaBradyo · 12/10/2021 18:55

Yes but for people who want the protection.

Tbh there’s nothing stopping people anyway so I’m not sure why they don’t

herecomesthsun · 12/10/2021 18:57

some of us do Smile

MarshaBradyo · 12/10/2021 18:58

That’s great. So leave it to people to do that

No more pressure

herecomesthsun · 12/10/2021 18:59

I think we should have some advice - not mandates - but more advice to help us through the winter with this.

Because it does affect other people (like recycling, maybe)

MarshaBradyo · 12/10/2021 19:02

There is advice isn’t there?

On the bus we get messages, and some shops and venues

I think people know but still just want to decide.

It's a bit like all the sanitiser theatre. I still do Zoom interviews for work, and after every candidate, someone comes in to wipe down the door handles and desk. Could understand it 15 months ago but now it seems so silly. All for show.

Tealightsandd

It must be exhausting holding the fort on here single handedly. I salute you

Imwearingtrousers · 12/10/2021 19:38

Oh sorry, the sunny one is here too, I commented but I'd only reached page 8 or some such when I did. As you were

Florelei · 12/10/2021 19:38

I don’t post on here any more because I can’t be bothered argue with the same people who won’t take anything anyone else says on board. It’s literally a waste of my energy.

Florelei · 12/10/2021 19:39

Also, the rudeness and aggression from some posters was too much for me.

weddingweird · 12/10/2021 19:42

@herecomesthsun they aren't considering a fire breaker?

It was falsely reported and denied a while back if that's what you mean?

Sparklingbrook · 12/10/2021 19:42

It seems that this board is getting a bit quieter except for when you start a thread stating that and then it's very much in Active again as everyone gets told off for even thinking it. Grin

beentoldcomputersaysno · 12/10/2021 19:57

@Florelei it does get a bit much, I agree. I also hope that the studies pointing out organ damage and negative impacts of repeated infections etc aren't too longterm, but who knows? We have asked alot of kids in this pandemic and not providing them with any protection now (as they don't die that frequently) is pretty poor.

Snookie00 · 12/10/2021 20:13

Ah the old mask argument. Have a look at this graph. Scotland which still enforces masks in secondary school, shops and restaurants suffered a massive return to school spike not seen in other parts of the U.K. Where was the preventative effective of mask wearing?

Is it just me or is this board getting a bit quieter?
herecomesthsun · 12/10/2021 20:15

Ah the old Scottish argument.

Too many other variables; only a 20-25% effect.

and so on

@MercyBooth linked to some thread on twitter about a firebreaker & I responded to that and other people's comments.

I don't know if they are seriously thinking about a firebreaker, I hope not.

herecomesthsun · 12/10/2021 20:19

Yes the same old arguments against mitigaitons do get wearisome.

MarshaBradyo · 12/10/2021 20:24

But it’s where we are? So the same themes will come up as majority view

FYI the nice Patrick Vallance has a long interview on R4 right now. I’m enjoying his take, esp how science informs complex political decisions

Haha Grin
herecomesthsun · 12/10/2021 20:32

Is it the majority view? I will stick with the scientific consensus.

Interesting that the Germans are adopting a scientific approach - is it just the influence of their lead politicians or a difference in the public perception of science.

MarshaBradyo · 12/10/2021 20:34

Yes here it is. You might find different themes emerging on a German site if too wearisome here

herecomesthsun · 12/10/2021 20:37

No, that was in response to PPs Smile
