The great South west PCR mystery

They say they investigating when we going to find out outcome?

inews.co.uk/news/covid-lateral-flow-tests-negative-pcr-1236141

Is it option

  1. faulty batch pcr tests only at South west drive through test centres? 2/ corruption or negligence at the local lab? Does the South west have 1 giant lab that processes bath/ Swindon and Bristol pcr tests
  2. some new varient that evades pcr tests like the one in France.

Are we even doing much genome sequencing these days?

We did have surge testing in Bristol last winter with varient e48k similar South Africa but that was pre delta.

We had massive cases in locally June and July.
Local r rate seems low currently despite so many off school and 2 Universitys return.

3 kids my child's year have postive lft but negative pcr.
We don't have any set date for covid jabs.
The school is not declaring any cases at all publicly..

Weirdly people saying home tests giving postive results.

That lft more likely to bring us false negative than postive..

Just makes me worried so much covid all over the region undetected with postives not isolating.

So many if these postive lft negative pcr seem to be school children.
ONS forecast 1 in 14 teens had covid last week yet all teens at our school with covid symptoms have negative pcr?

@tiddlysquat

Have they sent out all the texts now do we think ?
That's what I'm wondering.
worriedatthemoment · 15/10/2021 18:35

@GoldChick no idea ? Might be good if we new sites affected
My ds1 had a test in SW in the time frame which was negative and he was really quite unwell and cough was persistent and still hasn't gone , the sore throat and tiredness just stuck around longer than any other bug he has ever had , so much so dr tested for glandular fever

GoldChick · 15/10/2021 18:38

Yes same here. I was so unwell my GP asked me to do another test just to be sure it wasn't covid. So I'm hoping I haven't had two tests caught up in this.

cheshirebloke · 15/10/2021 18:40

@MrsPatmoresPinny

If you receive the text but you’re over the 10 days and symptoms are long gone, is it necessary to repeat the PCR?
They used to say that if you didn't get a PCR sample taken within 5 days of developing symptoms, that there was no point as the result (presumably if negative) wouldn't be accurate. No idea if that guidance has changed, not heard it mentioned for a while.
Learningtobeafeministagain · 15/10/2021 18:57

I tested positive on two lfd on Saturday both from different kits. The person that work closely with me has had a positive lfd x2 every day since Saturday -both of us had negative PCR and then our phones ping today as we are recalled for a new PCR. I’ve just retested im tested positive still on lfd.

In my work 30 people have tested positive on lfd but negative on PCR in this week. Today 10 of those their new ‘PCR’ have come back positive with a serious problem they have set that section. Meanwhile we’ve been told all advice is changed positive lfd - you isolate immediately take a PCR but ignore the result - I trust my work they know what they are doing

worriedatthemoment · 15/10/2021 19:34

Ds2 just had results back and positive pcr , mine not back yet as took one as I was there anyway and been with him in days before
Hes hauled up in his room and at the moment and not ill so hope he stays that way.
Will take ds1 ( although reckon he had it) and dh tomorrow for pcr as well

worriedatthemoment · 15/10/2021 20:57

Ironically as it was taking a while to come back also did another LFT which was negative - strange as he has covid and LFT x2 yesterday picked it up

Scandalous that it took weeks to pick the problems up.

Only just come to this thread after hearing the news today. Shocking! Haven't read all the posts but some of you were definitely onto something before this announcement. (Postal test vs testing site, sudden drops in case numbers in some areas).

How are your DCs/you now, @Itisasecret?

And Dante took over the Loughborough lab in July too:

HSHorror · 15/10/2021 23:12

I commented on the data thread on 20/09 that my msoa didnt look right. It was too low for the number i knew with covid. So slightly different issue. But also it didnt seem right that the la was going down as schools went back. I wonder how long an issue like this would take for the numbers to then genuinely go down as noone isolating... Just wouldn't put it past the gov.

We had one think know of in wales where the index case had positive lft and neg pcr but was pretty ill. The other 2 got positive pcrs. They tried to tell case1 it was something else.... (Just happened to have false positive lft when people he was staying with were genuinely positive

borntobequiet · 15/10/2021 23:39

I remember your comment HSHorror.

JanglyBeads · 15/10/2021 23:52

Me too Horror

lonelyplanet · 16/10/2021 09:19

The lack of QC in a company with a multimillion pound contract with the government is really shocking. Does no-one except random people on social media question glaring anomalies? I hope someone digs into any cronyism in all this. The death of David Amess today is dreadful, and has caused a media smokescreen to hide behind.

Really poorly still. Something was clearly very wrong and the damage has been done now in the SW:

To the other posters re: data thread, don’t get me started. I was mocked, told not to be surprised when they found nothing wrong. The op in the thread was particularly horrible to me. Well here we are.

That thread really annoys me, people full of self importance, actively mocking people who are living the experience. Totally disregarding the scientists and professionals who are raising it.

The data is wrong, which means the whole thread is a farce.

lonelyplanet · 16/10/2021 09:44

Yes secret you are right. There are lots of agendas and posters desperately trying to justify government decisions. It has often been very hard as a teacher reading some comments on there; they wouldn't discuss schools or children for a long time. However lots of interesting stuff is posted and I lots of views expressed.

GoldChick · 16/10/2021 09:50

They said on the news this morning everyone should be contacted by the end of Sunday. Would be good if they published that somewhere.

MargaretThursday · 16/10/2021 09:52

@Itisasecret
I came off the data thread having followed it since the beginning under a different name because I got sick of the bullying of anyone who wasn't following the party line of "it's all over".

It used to be a well balanced debate with people respecting each others' opinions wand looking at data. It's now disparage anyone who doesn't totally go for the "it'll drop soon" so no need to worry line.
I had a quick look a few days ago and it hasn't got better, if anything more extreme.

MargaretThursday · 16/10/2021 09:52

when, not wand!

Karma1981 · 16/10/2021 10:41

This is the text I got for my dd, I took the top part as the name and dob was on it
We did have covid in the house so had to do another one anyway a couple of days ago.

You recently took a PCR test on 05/10/2021. There may have been an issue with the result.
We strongly recommend that anyone who received a negative test result books an appointment to be re-tested. Please visit www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test to book a PCR test as soon as possible.

Anyone with Covid-19 symptoms should arrange a PCR test, stay at home and self-isolate until you receive the result from your latest test. Please follow local public health guidance.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

FuckingFabulous · 16/10/2021 10:56

It's pissing me off that they're saying it's only in the last few weeks! Definitely DEFINITELY been a problem since at least the start of July. So many people in the SW that I know have been getting positive LF and negative PCR, so much so that most people I talk to now don't trust LF!

JanglyBeads · 16/10/2021 11:59

I wonder whether anyone (with the time!) would like to start a Covid board thread entitled something like

“School and related Data and Analysis, informed contributions from school staff welcome” ?

It has been suggested (although perhaps in a slightly negative way) on the Data thread in the past….

BigSquareRoom · 16/10/2021 12:55

I agree with what people are saying about the data thread. Last week they were trying to say that the recent increase in cases couldn’t be to do with a fuck up in the labs and more likely due to the James Bond release.

neveradullmoment99 · 16/10/2021 13:02

Absolutely disgusting that all the press offer [BBC] is a small article at the bottom of website about this!
It is absolutely outrageous! It is a catastrophic failure on the Government protecting the people of the UK.
