The great South west PCR mystery

3asAbird · 11/10/2021 13:16

They say they investigating when we going to find out outcome?

inews.co.uk/news/covid-lateral-flow-tests-negative-pcr-1236141

Is it option

  1. faulty batch pcr tests only at South west drive through test centres? 2/ corruption or negligence at the local lab? Does the South west have 1 giant lab that processes bath/ Swindon and Bristol pcr tests
  2. some new varient that evades pcr tests like the one in France.

Are we even doing much genome sequencing these days?

We did have surge testing in Bristol last winter with varient e48k similar South Africa but that was pre delta.

We had massive cases in locally June and July.
Local r rate seems low currently despite so many off school and 2 Universitys return.

3 kids my child's year have postive lft but negative pcr.
We don't have any set date for covid jabs.
The school is not declaring any cases at all publicly..

Weirdly people saying home tests giving postive results.

That lft more likely to bring us false negative than postive..

Just makes me worried so much covid all over the region undetected with postives not isolating.

So many if these postive lft negative pcr seem to be school children.
ONS forecast 1 in 14 teens had covid last week yet all teens at our school with covid symptoms have negative pcr?

Also, slight off topic, but test and trace want me to give them the phone numbers and full names of all my child's teachers and all children she sat near??! Surely they can phone the school regarding the teachers, and my daughter keeps her self to herself and barely knows the last names of the children she sat near, let alone the phone numbers.

Tinysnickers · 11/10/2021 15:14

How on earth would you have phone numbers for all her teachers?!?! Or even kids she sat near actually.

They asked me the same, and asked me who she could of got it of. I said not being funny but half the school has covid.

Thats flipping crazy don't they realise this is not possible and there's something called data protection.

I'm not convinced its a new pcr evading varient if people getting different results with home tests.

If home tests go to different lab to local tests then that's maybe indicates lab.

The term faulty batches so kits sent to drive thorough all being specifically sent to South west covid testing centres seems too far fetched and unlucky.

I'm not hugely scientific but they run pcr tests in cycles maybe the number if cycles has changed and thats having an impact?

Faulty equipment in the lab

Negligent employees but again so many all over South west seems implausible 1 person have that much power and controls.

Again 1 rogue employee seems far fetched.

Even more far fetched is a body higher up is manipulating the results although seems really daft focus on 1 area .

So no not really sure what reason is but there must be something.

The heat maps on South west areas don't correlate with how Many school kids off of course without postive pcr they won't count towards official daily stats and the ons figures for 10-15 year old.

@Sugarandtime

If so many people who think they have COVID are getting negative PCR results, why are we still having new infections in the 30000’s each day? as reported in the media.
I don’t think it’s that surprising? Some won’t have had it yet, children getting it more now

Plus you can still get a positive post vaccination

Tinysnickers · 11/10/2021 16:18

@sugarandtime I think the worrying thing is what the real case numbers are (40k?) if so many are getting a false negative.

Badgercity · 11/10/2021 16:34

Happened to us in Gloucestershire. Positive LFTs and negative PCRs, tested again by post one day later and got positive PCRs. Glad we persisted.

I had a similar experience, albeit slightly less specific re: phone numbers and teachers - I was asked whether I contact info for anyone my child had been in close contact with at school before the positive test. I said no, for the same kind of reasons. I asked Test & Trace whether they would be contacting the school and they said no, they don't do that. So no actual contact tracing at all. I grilled my child and we managed to do it ourselves.
DogBirthday · 11/10/2021 16:45

28 deaths today. Worried that negative PCRs are leading to deaths not being recorded as Covid.

If you are on a ward are you tested repeatedly?

Yep. Schools are now told that they aren’t doing track and trace anymore. It’s absolutely ridiculous.
onthinice · 11/10/2021 17:00

The crazy thing is of course I have told her school that she is positive, so they can quickly and easily disseminate this info to the effected teachers, and probably already have done so. Regarding my daughters friends, she's already told them. Anyone under 18 does not have to self isolate, so why are test and trace bothering to ask.

Tinysnickers · 11/10/2021 17:03

My OH is a teacher. He is not being told when he is a contact. He is left to deduce this for himself when students are absent for some time and then a covid code appears on the register.

Indeed. Registered LFTs count towards the daily tally but I don’t bother registering mine.

Just to clarify big disparity between official Bristol Council figures that rely on ppstive pcr 1st covid infections within daily rates and area r numbers

View this email in your browserWelcome to the council's coronavirus information and advice newsletterHello resident,

Bristol’s current rate of infection is 187 cases per 100,000 population. The England average is currently 335 per 100,000. There have been 869 new cases in Bristol over the last seven days. 334,651 (76 per cent) of people in Bristol have had at least one dose of the vaccine.

I would like to wish a Happy Navratri to our Hindu Community. We hope you enjoy celebrations with family and friends. Please remember to take a lateral flow (rapid) test before meeting friends and family, and open windows if celebrating indoors. If you have any symptoms of COVID-19, please do not attend the temple or family celebrations. You must self-isolate and book a test as soon as possible.

Have a good weekend.

COVID marshals to continue through winter

COVID marshals will remain in place throughout Bristol until at least March of next year as work to keep coronavirus infection rates down and support the city through its recovery.

The team of 16 marshals were introduced across the city on 11 November 2020, supporting residents and businesses to comply with COVID-19 guidance.

This week, the council agreed to keep them in place for at least a further six months to build on their work within the community.

In just over nine months, our marshals have:

helped to resolve issues in shopping areas, parks and green spacescompleted over 17,000 COVID-19 related inspections across the cityshared posters, letters and leaflets with residentsoffered advice and guidance to hundreds of businesses.

For more information about COVID marshals visit the Bristol City Council newsroom.

Pharmacy collect codes and lateral flow testing

@frazzled2207 yes, but if the person subsequently has a negative pcr those postive lf are then removed from the stats!
So it is also possible that actual positives are being removed.

Yes, agree

Atalune · 11/10/2021 17:15

Same thing happening here in Somerset.

Positive LFT then negative PCR With common cold symptoms.

Many negative LFTs with eventual positive PCRs

Negative LFT the positive PCR with no symptoms.

It’s a mixed bag!

One child. Cold my symptoms. Positive LFT and PCR.
Another child covid symptoms negative LFT then a positive PCR

It’s in such disarray that everyone is feeling quite confused by the whole thing. No one is trusting much of anything.

onthinice · 11/10/2021 17:25

@Tinysnickers that's crazy. Test and trace have told me they cannot use an organizations phone number and have given me until this evening to get the personal phone numbers of the teachers. Obviously I have not approached any teacher to ask them for this! Maybe schools don't realise this is what t&t are saying, maybe they think their staff will be notified accordingly, but aren't being, because parents don't have this info.

Itisasecret · 11/10/2021 18:18

My friend is now going to hospital. Half a dozen + LTF. Negative PCR at drive through, positive on postal. Now in hospital. Something is very wrong.

This has been happening to people for weeks in the south west including my colleagues. Not teens gaming the LTFs.

We’ve just had strong positives in this house so let’s see what the drive through has to say.

The people who are saying their isn’t an issue are frankly talking bullshit. It’s ripping through schools in the SW because they are letting positive people go about their business as normal.

Itisasecret · 11/10/2021 18:18

There isn’t! Can’t even get my homophones correct.

onthinice · 11/10/2021 18:34

@Itisasecret that's terrible. I hope your friend gets better very soon. Something very strange is going on and needs to be sorted immediately.

2boysand1princess · 11/10/2021 18:35

We’ve had positive later flows and negative pcrs at my kids secondary. Not in south but in north.

Coffeey · 11/10/2021 19:00

I'm wondering if it's something like when that excel spreadsheet went wrong and they found a load more cases

3asAbird · 11/10/2021 21:07

Well this evening we finally get warn and inform letter i assume we we reached magic 10% covid not sure if thats 10,% confirmed by pcr or lft assume pcr.
Least 5 people we know in eldest year group within last week postive lft several times taken then negative pcr.

Without postive pcr they unauthorised covid absence and no access to remote learning even in year 11.

Letter goes onto say if pcr negative come in.
If households members postive come on in.

Ways to avoid covid avoid mass gathering inside.

Get jabbed no date for that yet.

Under 18s don't have self isolate so don't have to self isolate so assume they can't shut the entire year down.

All they saying is wear masks in corridors and try keep year 11 separate other groups impossible siblings and evert year group on packed public buses because there a shortage bus drivers so every bus is rammed with mostly maskless people.
