I think this is week 3 now. Dd tested positive last Monday but was symptomatic on the Friday but negative on PCR. I only tested her as ds was so bad with a cough and fever. Ds was really bad with a cough and sneezing and high fever. I started off with a sore throat, headache, bit of snot, bit of a cough, bit of a fever but nothing to make me ill as such. I've got worse as the dc have got better and am now chesty, coughy, tight chest, knackered, full of snot, bad head, congestion and feel like shit. Latest PCR on Friday was negative. I've started steroids for my asthma as my inhalers aren't very effective at the moment and will be speaking to the GP tomorrow in case I've now got a chest infection. I thoroughly fed up.
Please come moan with me so that this misery has company Smile

@RedFlyingBeeBee

So hang on, is this or isn't this COVID, the 'cold' that people are talking about here?
For me, I don't know.

I'm double vaxxed - had worse symptoms than DD (runny nose, cough, feeling like poo, tummy problems, etc), she had a cough but nothing much else. She's positive, I'm negative on LFT and PCR.

Feeling better now but felt awful at the start of the week.

Not sure if she had 2 viruses? One non Covid that made me feel rubbish but not Covid? Or if it is Covid but didn't get picked up on the tests?

userxx · 11/10/2021 07:18
@userxx when did you take the test? I did my PCR 3 days after symptoms started.
Would you recommend doing another?
Yesterday, Sunday. I realised late on Saturday night that I had no sense of smell or taste. The symptoms didn't fit covid, or so I thought!

Something isn't quite right is it. Same symptoms for so many people, yet some testing positive and others negative.

whatswithtodaytoday · 11/10/2021 07:28

If you have someone who is Covid positive in the house, or you've been in close contact with a case, and you have symptoms, then I think it's safe to say you have Covid.

There have been problems with PCRs not showing positive when they should (and later ones being positive after all), so I would just keep doing them if you need one to keep you off work. Try the ones you order to home. However if you're feeling really ill you shouldn't be going to work anyway - it's ridiculous that businesses expect people in when they're ill.

Hopeisallineed · 11/10/2021 07:31

Could actually just be a bad cold. They haven’t miraculously disappeared since Covid reared it’s ugly head.

FlatteredFool · 11/10/2021 08:53

I feel dreadful this morning and have a doctors appointment soon. My cough feels like my lungs are being ripped out, my head is banging, cold sweats, sore throat, fatigue, loads of thick snot, sore eyes.

GP thinks covid, flu or chest infection. I need to keep an eye on my sats.

Mine said to do another PCR test and thinks covid or chest infection. No mention of sats.

I'm loving this thread. My dcs have both had non covid covid. All the classic symptoms, one even lost all sense of smell for 48 hours. It's rife at school and they both have close friends and classmates who have tested positive recently but no positive test in our house for either of them. They did a few, all negative. Their friends with exactly the same symptoms at pretty much the same time tested positive.

Maybe some people just don't produce enough of whatever the test is looking for to make it positive.

AlexaShutUp · 11/10/2021 20:45

I think the tests are unreliable.

DD and her friend (A) both have covid at the moment, which I believe they both caught from someone in school. Two days before they came down with it, they spent the evening with another friend (B). B then spent the whole of the next day with A, indoors. By this time, A was already symptomatic and she did a positive lateral flow that evening. DD also did a positive lateral flow that night and developed symptoms the following morning.

Two days later, B also began to develop typical covid symptoms, so off she went to get a pcr test. The result was negative so she was told to go back to school as soon as she felt well enough.

I am struggling to believe that B didn't have covid, having developed symptoms after close and prolonged contact with two confirmed cases. But she is back in school, as instructed, potentially spreading the virus around to everyone else!

sachaf08 · 11/10/2021 21:13

Oh dear @FlatteredFool I really hope you start to feel better soon! I don’t feel too bad, just can’t stop coughing and annoyingly have a fever again now when I thought it had stopped completely this morning. Also lost all sense of smell today and taste starting to go funny now 😩

FlatteredFool · 12/10/2021 05:10

Me too as I've been awake an hour feeling rough. My throat and chest are so sore. I remembered I had difflam spray so I've used that for my throat and just keep taking painkillers and inhalers. I'll start the antibiotics when I've had food in the morning as I'm coughing up green stuff . Temperature is ok, I'm breathless after going to get more iced water from downstairs. Dd is back at school in the morning so no more up and down 2 flights of stairs taking her drinks and food whilst she was isolated in her room. If I'm really lucky she might make me a cup of tea when she gets up. I might be getting delirious now though Grin
This really sucks. I've had loads of steroids for my asthma along with antibiotics over the past 2 years but haven't felt this unwell in years. The dc are nothing but generous with their germs!
I hope everyone else feels better soon tooThanks

My mum tested positive too which is a worry, her breathing at the best of time is shocking. Apparently where I am in the NW the figures are the highest they've ever been !

tiddlysquat · 12/10/2021 08:58

I think this is covid. Tests don't always work. I did three pcrs before getting a positive and had symptoms described by everyone on here.

Not sure if tests have always been unreliable or whether the virus has changed. It sounds like so many people have it maybe we are getting to herd immunity?

Although I have been so unwell I dread to think how I'd have been without vaccine.

MrsEricBana · 12/10/2021 09:17

I was v unwell with classic symptoms, apart from loss of taste, 5 weeks ago. All tests neg. I don't trust the tests.

Fashionesta · 12/10/2021 09:28

Can I join? It's a weird one. DD was a bell with cold symptoms for almost two weeks with regular LFT until one day it was positive. Confirmed by PCR with 24 hours so now isolation. I have had cold symptoms for around a week, also regular LFT, all negative until yesterday a positive. Again confirmed by PCR.

Had it not been for covid we would have just thought we had nasty Stinky colds. As it is DD full of beans with occasional sneeze. I feel like I have a horrible cold that won't go. Tired, sneezing, sore throat. I wfh anyway and I don't know whether to take time off or battle through.

Hopeisallineed · 12/10/2021 09:33

The main symptoms though are just the same as colds/flu. Remember before covid? Those illnesses haven’t disappeared. If you don’t loose your sense of taste, it’s probably just a cold.

With respect, I'm not sure that's correct. Lots of my teens friends have tested positive over the last 4 weeks and they all had standard cold symptoms. Only 1 lost their sense of taste.

But if you test positive on an LFT, you can probably assume you do have Covid.

I know people who had Covid pre-vaccine and didn't lose their sense of taste, it's not a given.

OssieShowman · 12/10/2021 15:30

I’m in Australia. Melbourne, the most lockdown city in the world.
So, still in lockdown. But with large numbers of cases.
We are supposed to be opening up in November if the vax rate is at %
Can you tell me ... when this happens, If we do get covid, Do we still have to isolate until negative. Or 14 day quarantines still happen?

FlatteredFool · 12/10/2021 15:45

Australia have been much stricter on things from what I've read whereas it's felt like a free for all here once restrictions were lifted and not great even with restrictions. Hopefully people will still be sensible.

I feel like shit again this afternoon after perking up around lunchtime. I'm trying to space out the painkillers more but struggling.
