Randox Covid tests - avoid

DS just had to do a Day 2 PCR test as he recently returned from abroad. The nearest dropbox for the test is over 40 minutes drive away!

When DH & I did ours last week from Testing for All we only had to go half a mile.

Their drop box locations are stated on their websites (sorry that doesn’t help your son though!)

Cookerhood · 07/10/2021 21:07

Yes we knew where we had to go before buying them

TheGrumpyGoat · 07/10/2021 21:10

We used them, we checked where their nearest drop box was when we booked the test and it was 5 mins away. If it had been 40 mins away we wouldn’t have used them!

Katie517 · 07/10/2021 21:10

Just to let you know if it’s too far for you to go no one checks that you actually send it off, my husband forgot over a month ago and we heard nothing!

Tulipomania · 07/10/2021 21:17

DS obviously didn't know to check the drop box locations.

He ordered the test because it was the cheapest he found. He's recently recovered from Covid so it all seems like a stupid waste of money.

Logically, many people will be far closer to a drop box location than you are. Always best to check before you book, they’ll be convenient for lots of people.

Yes, it definitely is that!
enjoyingscience · 07/10/2021 21:19

We used them in the summer and the closest drop box closed while we were away! Went from ten minutes away to 45. Properly annoying.

Worst thing was that no one ever checked, so sending them at all was a massive waste of time...

brumbrum2 · 07/10/2021 21:27

But who actually chases up on a 2 day pcr test ? Wouldn't bother going out of your way unless you are passing by then drop it off
Just do a lft if that concerned

Just because he didn't check the location of drop boxes why should they be avoided?

You can use priority post boxes anyway.

crimsonlake · 07/10/2021 21:43

Closest one for me was several miles away, annoying when you do the 2nd day, 5 day test to release then the 8 day one.

BunsyGirl · 07/10/2021 21:50

We used them for same day Covid tests for our DCs before we went away in the summer. Fantastic service. The people that carried out the tests were great with the DCs and the results were back in less than three hours.

We couldn't for Randox

Normandy144 · 07/10/2021 22:57

I honestly wouldn't bother dropping them off. No one checks at all. If he's really bothered just do a lateral flow test otherwise just skip it.

Watapalava · 08/10/2021 07:23

we used for pre travel for teens - were fab but you cant get hold of them so if you have issues youd be snookered

wouldnt bother dropping off as noone checks or traces

BLACKTUESDAY1 · 08/10/2021 07:37

You can pay postage and send by Royal Mail. I did this with our day 2 Randox tests as we were miles away from a drop box. Got an email next day to say they received them and results shortly after. I posted 4 test boxes packaged together. Cost me £6 ish .

BLACKTUESDAY1 · 08/10/2021 07:38

I was too scared not to do the tests Grin

Helenluvsrob · 08/10/2021 07:40

Randox worked fine for me.
It’s not their fault you didn’t check where the drop box was …
You can pay to post

Tulipomania · 08/10/2021 14:02

Randox says not to use Royal Mail.

They say not to use Royal Mail but I did no problem. I sent them 'signed for' delivery

You were right though in a way OP… if you live 40 mins away from a drop box, probably best to use someone else!
summerisnearlyhere · 08/10/2021 14:30

I used their tests and Dropbox this week. No problems at all. We checked where the drop boxes where before we ordered one though. Results were through within 24hrs. Would definitely use again

Whammyyammy · 08/10/2021 16:32

I used Randox last month and had no issues, there drop box locations are advertised on their site, its really quite simple to use. I booked randox agsin as travelling tomorrow, ordered yesterday and arrived today , really good company.

I used eurofins in August, booked them whilst away, had the codes emailed so all OK for passenger location form. Tests never arrived, was given full refund. No one chased up we didn't test.

All you're buying is the code really for PLF.
