Really hurts to swallow...ouch! That's the only symptom though.

I've lft tested and negative and have had a pcr today routine for work so I guess I'll see soon anyway but just curious.

I’ve had a sore throat today. It hasn’t stopped me eating, drinking, talking etc but I’m aware it’s a bit sore and uncomfortable.

I feel absolutely fine otherwise though.

Are we expected to test for just that?!

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 21/09/2021 19:56

Sounds like it could be tonsillitis OP. Are your tonsils red and swollen?

flower11 · 21/09/2021 20:33

When I tested positive for covid sore throat was my first symptom for 2 days then the rest developed. My lateral flow was negative. Pcr on same day was positive.

mrsawhite · 21/09/2021 21:06

Following. I started with a sore throat last night. Felt like crap today. Just under the weather. Headache. Negative LFD. But am not convinced. Throat is getting more sore and scratchy as the night goes on ☹️ abs have the yuck feeling the day before a cold takes hold

DarceyDashwood · 21/09/2021 21:06

Sore throat (and a slightly stuffy nose) was my first symptom when I tested positive on LFT. It’s one of the main symptoms of Delta.

Mossstitch · 21/09/2021 22:48

First symptom was what I'd call a scratchy/burning/sore throat, not the kind that hurts when you swallow. Took 4 more days before more symptoms kicked in.

Ugh, following as I have a scratchy sore throat, blocked nose, and headache. Negative lfts

Revengeofthepangolins · 22/09/2021 05:19

I have covid now. Started as sore throat and then a few hours later sore lungs (as it were). Then an occasional cough, then positive LFT

Stopsnowing · 22/09/2021 05:31

I had those symptoms but a negative lft. Now wondering if I should have taken a pcr.

Redsquirrel5 · 22/09/2021 05:36

My son had two lfts negative and after speaking to GP had a PCR positive yesterday.

Sprostongreen21 · 22/09/2021 05:56

Sore throats are common with delta.
Also symptoms can be different if vaccinated. My colleagues who are fully vaxxed ( hospital ward) and recently had covid have complained about headaches, really bad fatigue, sore throat/ runny nose. Not all lost taste/smell or had a cough either. One felt ‘off ‘ and tired but was still working and then eventually tested lft positive a few days later. No traditional covid symptoms.

At this stage of people feel ill could have it but not everyone will test for symptoms that could as much be a nasty winter virus as they are rife too.

Clutterbugsmum · 22/09/2021 06:08

My sons been like this since Saturday. He started to get a sore throat Saturday by Sunday he then got a runny nose. We did LFT's on Sunday which was negative.

We still decided to get a PCR test on Monday as if he went to school they would just send him home because of his cough. It came back negative and he just has a cold. It seems to last about 48 hours.

WTF475878237NC · 22/09/2021 06:12

I asked my GP friend and sore throat alone is unlikely to be Covid. No other symptom developed and it was gone in 24 hours with some of that strong numbing spray. Negative LFT day before, on the day and day after.

DontWantTheRivalry · 22/09/2021 06:54

After my scratchy throat yesterday I’ve now woken up with a headache. I was sneezing a little a few days ago but now I feel bunged up.

I did an LFT last night and it was negative. I might do another one this morning though.

HelloDulling · 22/09/2021 07:02

My DD came home from school on Monday with a sore throat. Positive PCR came back last night.

JacMacO · 22/09/2021 07:12

Dd only had a sore throat - she thought she had tonsillitis again. She tested negative on LFT for 5 days before it showed positive. PCR was also positive after that.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 22/09/2021 07:13

DC came back from school with a sore throat which developed into a cold. Negative LFT so went back to school. Cold cleared up quickly.

I then caught the same thing, sore throat and sinus pain/blocked nose.

I’m fine now, couple of days and it was gone. Didn’t occur to me to get a PCR. To me it was a cold. I’m sure I’d have been more unwell if it had been covid.

espresso14 · 22/09/2021 07:16

I've done this too, but remember, LFTs are supposed to be used if you don't have symptoms. The PCR is for once you have symptoms (not that I know why though!), I have various colleagues who kept having -ve LFT and then did get a positive PCR a few days later (of course, I'm not suggesting every throat etc symptom is Covid).

mrsawhite · 22/09/2021 07:50

Woke up today. Still sore throat. So so tired. And bizarrely. Sore gums and a couple of ulcers on my tongue?!

ImInStealthMode · 22/09/2021 07:53

Had a sore throat last week and blocked sinuses, developed into a cough that lasted a few days. Negative PCR result, just a good old fashioned cold.

Aren't LFTs supposed to be unreliable when symptoms are present? I thought they were intended to catch asymptomatic cases?

Ouchyhurt · 22/09/2021 08:10

LFTs are just not reliable enough, so ok for asymptomatic as you'd not be testing otherwise and the false negative rate is acceptable, but symptoms need a PCR as they are more reliable.

LutherRalph1 · 22/09/2021 08:11

I had the worst sore throat a few weeks ago, felt like nothing id ever had before - I had to psych myself up to even swallow. No Covid and did doctorlink quiz on my GPS website which they didn't flag as Covid ( actually thought it was quinsy) but it just disappeared a few days later

desperate4spring · 22/09/2021 08:14

My covid started with a sore throat. It's not my only symptom now though!

NotSure94 · 22/09/2021 08:15

I've had a sore throat but lateral flow was negative and it shifted in a few days. Didn't see the point of PCR as no temp or any other symptoms. The usual big standard lurgies are back, we just forgot what they're like I think and presume everything must be covid!
