Im married to a man who pretends covid isn't real. It's becoming too much to put up with him anymore. If I want to discuss higher rates or surge of any kind, he literally tells me to shut up and he won't listen to my 'covid obsession'

Any advice? Move out?

@Aquafizzle

But there are also flu vaccines!!

Are people nad enough to be suggesting that the world doesnt care for childrens health because we have created a COVID vaccine? Absolutely bonkers logic. I'm out.

Children are still being subject to ridiculous rules that don’t actually help them, only to make adults feel better. It’s so disruptive to their education and life experiences. They’d be better off if we treated this like the flu and just had sick kids stay home, as we’ve done since forever.

Why we treat COViD, less dangerous to kids than the flu, differently is just to placate frightened adults.

We do have flu vaccines. However, depending on the vaccine to flu strain match, they're generally 15-50% effective... so whereas they are of benefit at a population level, they don't actually reduce risk at an individual level significantly.
@bumblingbovine49 why would anyone exaggerate to you- on a British forum- the deaths in Florida? For what cause? FWIW I’m trying to treat Covid with respect now but not let it rule our lives, as we are lucky enough to not be CEV in this house, but your sneery “all these numbers have been cooked up to scare everyone, I’m just getting on with life now!” tone is really weird and unnecessary.

We all need to be sensible, take the precautions we can and be kind to one another, understanding that different people are dealing with different levels of risk and different anxieties. And we also need to not immediately jump on the back of anyone quoting a statistic we don’t like the sound of!
@TrampolineForMrKite

I'm not sure why this is aimed at me. My link was to support the poster who said deaths are very high in Florida. Another poster called bullshit on that claim and asked for evidence. My link was meant as evidence of that. I find people who deny the high level of deaths just as irritating as you do I also loathe all the ' we just need to live with it ' claims when what is meant.is ' we need to ignore it all as no-one is dying and those that are are just old and sick 'Hmm. I definitely do not agree with this in any way .

My version of ' live with it' contains an abundance of caution including continued mask wearing , still avoiding very crowded places where it is possible.

The link actually disproved what the poster was saying 😂

So yeah, still total BS

Probably true. But if there's a reason to discuss it like our child's school having an outbreak, you can't shut it out.
What was it that you wanted to discuss though?

Aquafizzle · 22/09/2021 03:40

All you lovely anti vaxxers.. knock yourselves out.

I personally think you're mad. At least I can travel and feel safe. Stay home and enjoy your isolation

Maskless · 22/09/2021 04:07

Boot him out. He can come and live with me. I'm very happy never to discuss it.

LostInTheColonies · 22/09/2021 05:35

If you want numbers and maps, this is great:

COVID dashboard from Johns Hopkins

If you poke around a bit, you'll find the data for Florida
• total cases 3,528,698 | total deaths 51,889 )
• last 28 days cases: 445,965 | deaths 9,168

Not a thousand a day but those are still big numbers.

lannistunut · 22/09/2021 05:39

Think it is clear that governments are getting increasingly concerned by militant anti-maskers/anti-vaxxers. Those who can't deal with covid measures bandy about terms like 'health anxiety' but it is they who have the problems processing covid. A lot of them are completely irrational, especially about masks.
