Anyone got any confirmed cases at their child's school yet?

Well it didn't take long 😂 DS started Reception this week and today we get an email saying they have 5 confirmed cases in the school over several year groups.
I suppose it was inevitable really!
Anyone else know if any confirmed cases in their child's school since they started back?

I don't think we have any cases in our school yet, but we were badly hit last October. So most staff and a lot of parents already have had covid. I think there is only one member of teaching staff who hasn't had covid.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 16/09/2021 07:37

They've stopped telling us although I know of some through friends. There were so many cases in July I suspect most of the school is still in a period of natural immunity though.

PileOfBooks · 16/09/2021 07:40

Eeek.

We've not heard anything but pretty sure both primary and secondary won't tell us unless they have to.

Inhad it Jan and am vulnerable (but double jabbed after). I hadn't really got too anxious but now wondering. I am not in the best of health.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 16/09/2021 07:46

At least 4 in the primary school including the class my dc is in. Lots in the secondary school but they aren't letting us know any more than that.

BananaPB · 16/09/2021 07:56

We went back on the 8th and PHE have said masks in corridors and communal areas and desks to be returned to rows.

ifonly4 · 16/09/2021 08:00

We had two teachers off within a week - luckily no children as far as I know yet.

savagebaggagemaster · 16/09/2021 08:28

Nearly ten percent of my school have had positive PCRs. I believe public health England are meant to recommend something when it gets to ten percent? At the moment we've gone back to one way systems - but apparently we cannot ask the kids to wear masks. Oh and the fact that siblings of positive kids are allowed to come in, then subsequently feeling ill and testing positive at school isn't helping the situation- it's utterly insane! My own dc are very worried about going in to school Sad

trumpisagit · 16/09/2021 08:30

We have had no info from school regarding numbers testing positive. Presumably they don't have to tell us any more?

BillyJoe111 · 16/09/2021 08:36

I wouldn’t know, they don’t tell us and I don’t know any of the other parents so I would never find out!

Area has a huge number of cases though so there must be.

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 16/09/2021 08:36

Lots on DDs tutor group.... 😩

BillyJoe111 · 16/09/2021 08:38

Dd was only one of 25 in her year group of 90 children though for the last ten days of term in July though because of bubbles bursting. Assume lots have already had it or been exposed without incident.

Bennetgirl · 16/09/2021 09:08

Two secondary schools here have a very high number of cases. One is boarding and they're having to put in their own contingency plans as lots of staff are getting it now. No help from the government.

Students with a positive lft aren't always being followed up with a pcr as there are no slots so they don't show in the daily figures. I think this is how Boris will avoid his plan b for a while,😡

Primrosejoy · 16/09/2021 09:20

None here which is surprising as on high alert after the summer- SW

FawnFrenchieMum · 16/09/2021 09:22

I thought they had stopped notifying people if there are confirmed cases as no one (under 18) needs to isolate?

CovidBored · 16/09/2021 09:22

My DTs, same tutor group but different for all other lessons. One had positive LFT followed by PCR on Saturday, the rest of us negative PCR. Was strongly advised by school to send they other one in on Monday, he had positive LFT and PCR on Tuesday. Initial infection has come from school as they have both been cautious as DH is ECV and school is the only place they’ve been since they went back on 2nd Sept.

But schools are safe🙄🤷‍♀️

Had email from normally non-communicative school yesterday; state secondary in south of England.

They have "multiple" cases in school and it is "prevelant" Year 8 and they are concerned.

DS reports a quarter of his class are off with Covid symptoms with at least half of those with confirmed cases.

If you translate that across the yeargroup (as they mix for different subjects) ...Six classes in the year so that's 24 confirmed cases, 48 suspected cases in the yeargroup.

No masks. No bubbles. No nothing. It's been a real worry. It basically spread for their first week back with the first confirmed cases at the weekend. I suspect this will ultimately translate into hundreds of cases as they are carrying on as normal.

MarshaBradyo · 16/09/2021 09:26

Nothing yet
2000 LFT in first week all negative

And no emails since - we usually get updated if there are cases

Shmithecat2 · 16/09/2021 09:29

Nope. Tiny (

Peanutsandchilli · 16/09/2021 09:49

Fortunately not yet. We got 76 letters last year stating someone had tested positive, so I expect it to start again very soon.

twocatsandtwokids · 16/09/2021 09:56

Back in primary (2 form entry) for 2 weeks, 3 separate cases in 3 classes so far that I know of!

Shallwegoforawalk · 16/09/2021 10:01

Over 120 notified cases in secondary of around 1300 pupils so far. Similar story at the other school next town over.
Scotland so been back for 4 weeks.

Very few have the classic 3 symptoms to start. More common is a severe headache, cold symptoms and gastric issues.

JuliaBlackberry · 16/09/2021 10:19

DCs small primary school has had a couple of cases in y6 only, so they are putting them in a bubble and keeping them away from the rest of the school for a couple of weeks.
I teach in a large secondary where it is absolutely rife. 5 teachers off and countless kids testing positive. I'm a y10 tutor and we have two confirmed cases today so I expect that many will be down with it soon. And probably me too.

LunarSea · 16/09/2021 10:31

Yes, but where before they would notify us, now it's DS telling us that x and y are off because they are covid positive. That news received by him directly from his friends, so doubt they are the only ones.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 16/09/2021 10:36

I thought they had stopped notifying people if there are confirmed cases as no one (under 18) needs to isolate?

This. Loads at DD's school (including DD), her friends tell her that loads of kids are missing from classes, the deputy head told one of my friends that 20+ kids had been found to be positive via lfts but we're not being told anything.

FrancisCross · 16/09/2021 10:47

My daughter went back last Monday and had caught Covid by the Friday. So many cases in YR7. So far her brothers are negative but feel like I’m kidding myself that they won’t catch it.
